I think a lot about what kind of material and real estate would be of interest to an interstellar intelligence. The old notions of seeking ordinary resources or some kind of interaction with primitive species seems hard to believe. The universe is a wealth of resources and there is nothing particularly unusual chemically about a planet like the earth (not necessarily taking into account the presence of higher order life on earth, which we can’t yet speak to the relative rarity of).

One thing that seems certain to me is that whatever the goals of an interstellar species might be, what they would need to store and harness in abundance is energy. Whether one traversed the universe with simple

I hear a lot of talk about the impossibility of interstellar travel due to the vast distance and time scales. This leads us naturally to presume metric engineering technologies like Warp Drive simply MUST be involved in order to fulfill our Star Trek inspired vision of galactic civilization. While I believe these technologies are possible, (and may be coming sooner than we think!) we don’t actually need them to get around. What we need is a dense form Of energy storage and the capacity for continuous acceleration.

But continuous acceleration is limited by light speed! Indeed it is, but distance dilates as we approach the speed of light as well as time. So while a ship traveling at nearly l

What possible value to them (or it) -scientific, cultural, or exploratory- would teaching advanced physics and engineering to humans have? Is it some kind of modified religious impulse that convinces people alien intelligences have come to ‘save’ us?

There is a Woody Allen short story where Aliens arrive on earth, demand to see world leaders, and then the aliens proceed to drop off all of their dry cleaning -promising to return at a later date to pick it up (when they return they have sadly lost their ticket and their dry cleaning is lost) This seems about as likely as the idea that aliens are coming to teach us about clean fusion or something.

Hey folks, I expect this sort of debate happens here from time to time but I’m new to Reddit so I’m curious to hear everyone’s opinion.

I take the following statements to be essentially factual at this point:

  1. There are unidentified aerial phenomenon throughout the last hundred years of history at least. These phenomena conform to what seems to be advanced technological objects and that they are likely to be extraterrestrial and possibly intelligent.

  2. There is no world in which the hyper sophisticated air defense screens and trans orbital radar surveillance screens of the US and the former USSR have NOT developed a detailed record of these objects’ comings and going’s and some kind of

I see that the devs have gone to great lengths keeping the flora and fauna roughly accurate to the latest dinosaur science. (Is it just me or do the lips and feathers on theropods make them look MUCH more like real animals?)

Anyway on the note of this being a game about a deep love of natural history, It would be cool if there were journal entries on various plant and animal life in the game, particularly if they were voiceover entries that you could listen to while you wandered. Imagine clicking on an object or animal In the environment and a cheerful David Attenboroughesque voice chimes in and explains a bit of paleobotany, paleontology or even geology while you casually wander through t

Hey folks, anybody else sadly unable to land a blow on a cell phone version? I can’t even seem to aim my bites at a fish half the time, and I just got beaten down by an herbivore as a Spinosaurus. What am I missing? Do you have to aim the attacks somehow? Or Am I just always goin to get crushed by players using a mouse?

A Preface to the 4th Edition, with some words upon the Artes of High Magic and Natural Science in these Mortal Realms

Fr. Cornelius VonSilence, M.PhD Colegiate Arcane of Hallowheart, Golvaria Aqshy. Year of our lord 347 A.o.S ———————————————————————————-

The Mortal Realms are Vast...indeed it is said without reservation, that they are vast beyond imagining! The Mortal Realms are old as well, older than we can reckon with time or timepiece.

All the boundaries of the realms in time and space fray at the edges. Distance means very little in the lands so far from hearth and home that up becomes down, left becomes right, and near becomes very very far away indeed! Time also bends into shapes
