Just came home from my usual midnight run and I am feeling amazing.

For the W5D3, I set myself the challenge of running the commute to my former high school (15 minutes, 10 of it by bus, around 3 km) in one stretch.

I managed it with around 3 minutes left to run, so I used the track I used to hate so much during HS to finish. I felt invincible, especially when I thought that less than 2 months ago, I got winded by just trying to catch the bus.

What I learned until now:

  • Drink a lot of water (0.5 liters for me)
  • Ignore the clock, unless it signals you to change your pace
  • Don't allow yourself to slack off and move your running schedule
  • What is in motion, stays in motion

Somehow I ca

My time here in Kyushu is slowly coming to an end, and again it's time for me to hunt for Japanese books of any kind.

As for me, I have been classified as "intermediate" or "pre-advanced", somewhere around the JLPT N2. My Kanji level is somewhere in middle school, but I plan to polish them a bit once I return. Since I still have some time until I return, I plan to raid the Book-Off close to me.

What would you recommend for:

  • Language books (grammar, 漢検, 四文字熟語, 敬語 and the like)

  • Speciality books (anyone has something for a foundation in economics?)

  • Comics (any good recommendations, open for anything)

  • Novels (I already have some Murakami, and I am trying to score the paperpacks of

Hey AIESEC!

Anybody of you visited some other LC while being abroad on holidays or while studying abroad?

What were some of your experiences?

Hi everybody

I got accepted for an internship stay in a non-profit organization in Chongqing this summer. While the whole work environment will be English, I'd like to at least get some knowledge of the language spoken there, so I won't be too lost.

What would be a good tool to at least get some basic phrases with some understandable pronunciation?

While I know that the languages are too different to compare, but is there a way to use my knowledge of the Kanji (the Japanese version of the Hanzi) to enable some rudimentary communication with people who don't speak English?

Thank you in advance!

Some time ago, I found a HP DAT72 with some cassettes in a goodwill. Since it was cheap and I'm interested in such pieces of IT stuff, I bought it. I plugged it in at home and it seems to work (it is quite loud while being used). So the next step would be to read/write data from it over the USB cable that is mounted to the back of the unit, but I don't know how to do that, and searching on the internet didn't give me many usable results.

Some facts that might be helpful:

OS: Windows 7 Home

Connnection: USB

Format: DAT72

The HP L&TT software recognizes the drive, but there are no options for data management available.

Thanks in advance for any directions!

We all know that Japanese is (in)famous for its politeness, but sometimes the situation demands some strong words.

Asides from 「命令形」(imperative forms) and phrases like 「いい加減やめろう!」「いい加減(…)しろう!」 I don't know many ways to make somebody do or quit something, especially without sounding like a phrasebook for dirty Japanese, especially when you still want to sound a bit civilized while getting the point across.

So, what are some widely usable expressions?

Last week, I got my hands on a free "broken" Thinkpad T23 that bluescreened right after booting up Windows XP. Turns out it is the harddrive that is on it's way to die. I'm thinking about replacing the disk and, if I can get my hands on some cheap RAM, upgrading that as well.

Could that setup be used as a usable "work laptop" for light internet use and word processing ?

Thanks in advance.
