So I had a really hard time logging into the new Empower site. I finally figured out that my username for the free dashboard changed from a username to my email address. Note that I have another non-free account with Empower from a former employee that wasn't actually in use. But perhaps the name collided or maybe everyone switched to email instead of username?

I don't know but I was just about to give up on the whole thing. I'm posting just in case someone else is in the same boat and somehow missed whatever it was we were supposed to have read/gotten that informed us of the changed. I hadn't expected something basic like the username to change so perhaps I just overlooked it even when

I'm stuck -- I can't login. I go to empower.com/epw and it has me do a password reset and then I verify the via a phone call but it immediately says the session has expired. I'm not waiting. I'm doing it right away. There is some kind of bug. Almost like the backend doesn't let you in for some reason. I'm outside the USA and it does it on or off VPN. I just can't log in anymore.

So it looks like there are a number of 64mm burrs that may or may not work with the DF64 that are not from SSP. The SSP burrs are interesting but they are fairly expensive. Have you tried any of these?

  1. Mazzer Super Jolly 64mm 233M burrs. Note that 233M is a revision of the 33M burrs. So on Amazon.com USA, the burrs are under 33M but they actually ship 233M. I've read some reports of people using these on their DF64 without issue.
  2. Fellow Gen 2 Ode burrs. I don't think I read about anyone trying these. Anyone find anything?
  3. Some other burr(s)?

Note that one of the issues is the burr dimensions need to work with the DF64 so not all 64mm flat burrs will necessarily work with the DF64.

So the two screws that come in from the bottom of the base into the motor mount can cause alignment of the lower burr to change on reassembly. The screws go into the lower end of the motor (or a motor mount) but the mount is floating in air. A fix for this to keep the lower burr from changing (and requiring realignment of the upper burr) came up on the home-barista.com thread for this grinder. The most recent post about it is here:

https://www.home-barista.com/grinders/g-iota-df64-espresso-grinder-t70854-1470.html#p906589

You need two 19.5mm spacers with enough room inside so the screws can go through. Then on reassembly, you put in these spacers so tightening the screws doesn't pull down

I'm wondering what people are doing for v4 with the declumper. I do see some older posts but it's been a bit since we talked about this.

I'm mostly grinding for espresso and doing RDT and WDT. Getting a lot of fines around the grinder though. I've been putting off messing with it but probably will try to align the burrs too.

I've tried to run dual 4k at 1440p on iGPU (on a i7-7700) and it worked some of the time but I often had issues booting into OS X. So it was glitchy.

I upgraded to an RX 580 8 GB and it is rock solid however it consumes a steady ~100w according to:

ioreg -l |grep "PerformanceStatistics" | cut -d '\''{'\'' -f 2 | tr '\''|'\'' '\'','\'' | tr -d '\''}'\'' | tr '\'','\'' '\''\n'\''|grep '\''Temp\|Fan\|Power\|Clock\|Utilization'\

I've tried to use some of the SSDT approaches to lower the power consumption however it appears the driver isn't very efficient for this use case (dual 4k scaled to 1440p) so it ends up at ~100 watts no matter what.

I could potentially use an RX 5700 XT if I

I just received an email that said:

You recently purchased a game from the Epic Games Store. There was a mistake in the price, so we are issuing a refund and removing the game from your library. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused.

I checked my transaction history on the Epic website and it shows a refund for Circus Electrique of $0.00 (it was a free game last week). Guessing everyone got this? Anyone know what is going on?

I've been doing 1099 work for a number of years now but I've heard people mention they have various ways to make being a 1099 worker better. Usually it's something about taxes and I suspect some deductions that I'm not taking?

Here are the USA-specific easy to understand ways to lower your income:

  • individual/solo 401k to which you can contribute as an employee (max of $20,500 for 2022) and as an employer (for typical LLC, it's 25% of the income after expenses) - combined total max is $61,000 for 2022
  • deduct expenses like health insurance, home office, services (internet, phone), equipment (computer, etc) -- there are rules for this so just listing the categories but see the rules

I bought 3 SCX24s for Christmas for our kids. 2 of them are fine however one had the motor die within a day. I purchased a replacement motor (same one, didn't go for Barrage one yet) and I replaced it. It's working now but it makes a different noise than the other two -- kind of a higher pitched whine. I tried reseating the motor however I can't get it to go away. It sounds fine disconnected from the gears so it's not the motor as far as I can tell. Not sure if it's the gearbox or what...

So three questions:

  • have you had any luck getting a motor replaced under warranty?
  • any ideas on the drivetrain whine/noise?
  • are we supposed to contact Horizon for support? I tried contacting them ri

I bought a couple of these "R4" carts from AliExpress:

R4 Video Games Memory Card Download for Nintend NDS NDSL Game Flashcards Support TF Card Adapter: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003435151668.html

I didn't read the listing closely as I was under the impression they all supported any memory card size. However, after buying some 32 GB cards and trying them, I am stuck on the "Loading..." screen. I went back and read the listing and realized it says:

R4 Video Games Memory Card Download for Nintend NDS NDSL Game Flashcards Support TF Card Adapter Description: R4 DS flash card is an early flash card, R4 supports up to 2GB standard TF card. It is a pity that SDHC standard TF car
