I sent out eight queries for a non-fiction book proposal to literary agents and received the first response one week later:
"We deeply regret that the demands on our time are such that we are unable to represent your project.
We wish you every success."
(Sent from the assistant of the agent I queried.)
Is this a kind way of saying "no, thank you" or "not right now" or something else?
Also, what's the proper response here? A follow up thank you or just drop it (and the door is presumably forever closed)? Thank you.
