In 1994, John McTiernan filmed Die Hard 3 , the third part of the adventures of John McClane. One of the film's notable sequences shows Bruce Willis as a sandwich man in a Harlem neighborhood.

The message “I hate niggers” is written on his chest at the request of a terrorist who wants revenge on him.

This apparently simple sequence to shoot was, however, very complicated to put together.

When we use a word like "nigger" in the United States, it's potentially a door open to a lot of trouble.

To avoid offending the residents of the Harlem neighborhood (overwhe

In The Revenant , there is a scene where Leonardo DiCaprio's character begs for food from an Indian who killed a bison. The latter then throws him a piece of the animal's liver, which DiCaprio hastens to devour with full teeth.

Originally, this scene was to be shot with a fake liver, made by the film's prop makers from gelatin. However, when DiCaprio saw the fake liver, he found it implausible.

As the filming had so far taken all the risks to give a realistic vision of living conditions at the time, the star asked to replace the fake liver with a real one.

In Rain Man , while Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman are locked in a phone booth to make a call, Hoffman suddenly exclaims, "Uh oh...fart!" » ( Oh, oh, prout! ).

The actor has just released flatulence. It wasn't in the script, it was a compelling natural need...

Rather than halt filming, Hoffman opted to incorporate the thing into the scene, acting out the incident while staying in character.

What is interesting is to see how Tom Cruise reacts to his partner's improvisation.

He does not allow himself to be destabilized and continues the scene. The two act

Jim Carrey is generally appreciated by crews and has a good reputation on set.

However, in 1999, while filming The Grinch , a children's story about the character of a green-haired bogeyman, Jim Carrey changed his personality.

The affable comic has become obnoxious and unmanageable.

At the origin of the problem, the special make-up and the costume that the actor had to wear daily.

Jim Carrey compared the process to a real torture session.

Recently an example that struck me is in Spider-Man: Far from Home , Marvel's latest.

Check out this shot of Nick Fury interrogating Peter Parker in his hotel room:

I don't know if it comes from a whim of Samuel L. Jackson, or if Disney just doesn't care anymore (in any case they do whatever they want with their special effects today)… but damn, it's was really too difficult to find a wall and two props to film in front of? Was it really impossible to find a fake gun to give the actor?

Seriously, what's next? We might as well scan the chair he's sitting on, h

The big scene from Singing In The Rain , by Stanley Donen.

Mythical scene, masterpiece of cinema…

A moment of joy, beauty and elegance, humor…

And yet, it was a nightmare to shoot.

To begin with, the scene had to be shot in broad daylight, because there were scheduling constraints.

The technical team therefore had to pull gigantic tarpaulins over two blocks of (fake) houses from the MGM studios, in order to create a nocturnal atmosphere.

Problem: under the California sun, which beat on the black canvas, the set turned into a furnace...
