I love the game, but I don't like the way it handles getting killed, since it's completely immersion-breaking. You just magically pop back into existence. And the losing stuff is annoying, since it's completely unclear how bad that could be.

I'd like to suggest an improvement that I think would fit far better within the rest of the Subnautica world. The basis is the fact that tech is prominent that can construct complex objects. We've even seen a few flying drones fabricate a whole submarine. Given that: what could they do with a mangled body?

This is the idea: you meet Sammy, and Sammy takes a huge chomp. Screen goes black.

And then fades in, briefly, vision coming and going, as drones d

I'd like to save a session containing a few default files and have that session, instead of what the session looked like when I last closed Notepad++, open automatically on startup. Anyone happen to know whether that's possible? Thanks in advance!

Hi,

I'm looking for participants for a study: about one hour of filling in questionnaires and doing reaction time tasks (I've done this before and I think it went well for everyone). Send me a PM if you're interested and eligible to get a personal link to do the study (you're only supposed to perform this once), and when it's complete you get an Amazon gift card for 5 euro.

Note: Be aware that the questionnaires involve mental health (e.g., anxiety, depression) and the task involves threatening stimuli (angry faces), so if you're concerned that would bother you it's best not to participate in this one.

Eligibility requirement are: 18 or over; not in treatment for psychological or neurolog

I'm using this (sort-of, delayed) recursive function to load images into an array:

this.createNextStim = function(j, i, subarr) {
    this.caller.emptyCanvas();
    this.caller.showText("Creating stimuli: " + j + ": " + i, 0, 0.5, "white");
    if (i < this.nStim[j] && j < this.nStimCat) {
        if (this.stimType[j] == "img") {
            var img = document.createElement("img");
            img.src = this.stimArrParams[j][i];
            img.width = 200;
            img.height = 200;
            subarr.push(img);
            i++;
            img.addEventListener("load", this.createNextStim.bind(this, j, i, subarr));

Hi,

I'm looking for some participants for a study, age 18 - 50, for psychological questionnaires and reaction-time tasks. Exclusion criteria: Not being able to perform task requiring two hands and (corrected to) normal vision, or currently in treatment for neurological or psychiatric issues. Please be aware that the tasks involve threatening and alcoholic pictures. You can perform the task once only.

It'll take about an hour. The reward is a 4 euro Amazon gift voucher.

Thanks for any interest!

I'm looking for some people (over 18 and able to read English) who'd be willing to fill in some questionnaires and do a reaction-time task online; the whole thing should take no more than an hour. The pay would be four euro via Amazon Gift Card. If you'd like to participate please PM me for a link and log-in information.

You'll need to do the task on a laptop / desktop, it's unfortunately not suitable for phones.

Closed for now for the day!

I'm planning to use JavaScript for some online psychological reaction time experiments. The responses are gathered via a keydown eventlistener (although I might at some point want to use a mousedown), which calls a currently active response handler function. Like so, where this refers to a manager object containing various tasks:

window.addEventListener("keydown", this.respHandler.bind(this));

The respHandler of the manager calls the respHandler of the current task, which get the current time in ms (other code comes after) and calculates the difference with some stimulus time (also determined via Date.now(), called right after some code for stimulus presentation).

  • The Netherlands
  • Computationally intensive data analysis (fMRI for instance), programming, Office use.
  • Somewhere in the 1500 to 2000 euro range.
  • A 128 GB SSD for the OS and most-used programs, plus 1 TB hard disk.
  • Preferably dual monitors, where the second one doesn't have to be very good. Decent keyboard + mouse but nothing special.

I'd prefer a Windows system for practical reasons.

Any help would be much appreciated! I've only bought laptops for ages now.

I was wondering if maybe some people could offer some points of view. Without too much detail, I have qualms about the value / ethics of my work - I feel like I'm supporting bad people and a bad system, and hence doing more harm than good in the long term. In the short term I'm also helping out colleagues who I see as good people just doing their best a fair bit, which I like.

I'm ambiguous about how to think about this. Should I say, I'm not going to support this, and leave? Or should I say, I'll be humble, I'll follow "And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain." and not try to second-guess optimizing behaviour in terms of systemic consequences?

So I just read the book. For me, at this point, it falls under "Interesting, but..." For one thing, I feel like there's a false dichotomy in there, between Takers and Leavers. What about a middle ground - the "responsible stewardship" myth?

I hadn't seen this one suggested, apologies if missed: if comments were sorted alternately by popularity, controversy and recency, could that perhaps solve some issues with effects of downvoting, not on people's widdle feelings, but on the quality of debates? Like:

  1. Upvotes minus downvotes, top ranked
  2. Upvotes PLUS downvotes, top ranked (of the remainder after removing comment-1.)
  3. Most recent
  4. Upvotes minus downvotes, second ranked
  5. Upvotes PLUS downvotes, second ranked
  6. Secondmost recent etc

That would mean downvote brigades would be helping a comment become visible, and via recency new ideas would be accessible, all interspersed with a consistent series of "established" h
