I have to put 3 references on my application but I literally have nobody. No friends, no family, no past job experience.

I used to work as a CNA but due to circumstances the center was closed down and i was laid off with other people.

I'm also pretty introverted and i know that i would completly flunk if i tried the fake number and using an accent voice.

* Edit to add, they are now asking for recomendation letters.

Where am i supposed to get them. Should i write them myself?

I've been at fortune 50 companies and successful startups and I'd love nothing more than to give ppl a boost. Done a lot of hiring, firing, and consulting too so its not hard to fake our connection.

Engineers, QA ppl, Data Sci, Project Managers, Product Owners, Scrummasters, IT folks are all welcome. HMU and I got you.

EDIT:. All y'all saying "I'll hit you up when I'm ready." Are missing the point. Do it NOW. You're in a whole sub dedicated to faking it till you make it. Lie on your resume, use fake references, turn that time you fought with your LoL team into a time you resolved a conflict in the workplace. Fail dozens of interviews until you learn the right answers and then fail dozens

Beyond just fake references.. has anyone tried listing multiple fake positions on their resume, to the extent that you've effectively faked a career history spanning multiple jobs?

I'd like to get into account management or customer success, or possibly sakes in any capacity. Talking to people and presenting well is like my one talent. I'm also great at being an actress and lying when I have to, to be blunt.

I've been largely disabled for 6 years; recovered enough to work now. Tried starting my own business, but that failed. Now desperate for a complete reset.

Wondering if there's a way to find people who have been in these roles, to effectively "coach" me on how to do the job and how to

I see a lot of posts on here asking if this sub is useful or if it is a scam etc. I will say I utilized this sub and found the most wonderful person who gave me a glowing reference for a fairly senior position at a college. She was EXTREMELY educated and I could never thank her enough for what she did. So in essence this sub not only is legitimate, the experience meant more to me than anything. I would like to thank u/torrence_pie by name.

So use this sub. It is valuable. It can be unfair to have your position gatekept by archaic rules like professional references.

Edit: I just received a phone call. Due to the reference from u/torrence_pie an offer letter is coming after my background ch

We have savings that we are dipping into but it's a terrifying time for us. We have been applying for jobs for months. Should I lie on my resume and say I'm employed currently? I feel like that would help but obviously I'm doomed if I get caught, unless I say I'm tutoring or something. Any advice is welcome. Just anxious and not sure what to do. He's very stressed out. Considering working in retail because in the end, a job is a job.

A couple people here were kind enough to refer me for the job I have now and now after just a couple months, I’m being offered more opportunities within the company. I can hardly believe it.

To the two people who served as my references (you know who you are), I’m still incredibly grateful for the extra good word you put in for me despite my lack of experience in IT.

To all of you, don’t give up and keep helping each other here if you can. We all know that it’s normal and sometimes of out our control to have gaps on our CV/work history, and we have to play the game. Help each other and have faith.

this should be in line with all you in this sub, since you're asking strangers for refs. Here's something I pulled off recently, landing me a $70k job with no experience:

just be your own reference

Pros:

  1. No need to convince anyone else, if you don't have someone or feel awkward about it
  2. You control everything your "reference" says. You can hint to the traits HR wants to hear

Cons:

  1. Scary. You may not want to risk messing up/losing the offer/being humiliated.
  2. Limited. You can only be people the same gender as you, harder if you have a very distinct accent or other verbal distinguishing traits

Lied about employment

Urgent Request

Long story short. Company closed down temporarily while they moved to a new location and built a new facility. I've been out of work for over a year, heard the news, and thought it was a good opportunity to say I worked there. Since there was most likely a big lay off, I can easily say I was recently laid off.

Before I added this company to my resume I barely got hits and would send off dozens upon dozens of resumes a day. After adding them I received multiple offers over a couple of months. I was able to pick my favourite and best employer.

The company I chose is super thorough with their background and reference checks and asking me for paystub and employment letter. This company is al

Two very kind people from this subreddit helped me to secure a new job recently after a very long hiatus and instead of accepting payment, one of them just told me to pay it forward so here is my effort in fulfilling that promise.

I’m offering to be a permanent reference for two people here. I only ask that I be given a bit of notice before any forms or calls come my way. Please send me a short summary in a DM about your situation, and I’ll pick two people who I think I’ll be most useful for.

My background included data analysis, academia, and social services. Good luck everyone!

Edit: I’m in the UK.

Edit #2: I’ve identified the two people. Thank you all very much for reading this!

Just found this sub and wish I had this when I started looking for tech jobs.

I have many years in the tech world and help create people's resumes to better position themselves to get in the door.

If you need a tech reference or a resume boost, hmu! I was helped along the way so this is my way of giving back.

EDIT: For those of you wondering (which there are a lot of you, but I don't mind!) I focus mainly on positions that are, at their heart, service desk positions. Anything from regular help desk, all the way to account provisioning and software\hardware management specialties.

I also have gone through coding boot camps but decided it wasn't for me. I now volunteer my time to severa

I have a heart for persons who are trying hard in life and just need a leg up to get to the next level. I have multiple graduate degrees and a long career as a senior executive. I can provide a reference for you to get into school, get a job, or even proofread (not write) your application or essay. It’s my specific level of expertise. DM me to provide the specifics of what you need. Good luck!

EDIT: Please don’t ask me to provide a reference for any job that works directly with or provides access to children. As a mom, that’s a line I won’t cross, and you’ll need a real reference for that one.

No seriously, I’m so bored at work. I’ll be anyone’s reference. Just let me know what the job is and I’ll be more than happy to say a few kind words about you. Just message me and I’m there!
