EDIT: new/improved version:
http://sdrv.ms/14hXEhR

Sharing in case it helps anyone else. Let me know if anyone wants the Excel version.

I added the Avenger and sorted by crew and current pledge price, and updated it with gradient shading and magnitude bars for the various stats.

This was mostly to help me get a better holistic sense of how different ships stack up - e.g. it's easy to see how the Cutlass is looking really maneuverable.

Some info pulled from Seventeen's original.

Thanks for that work, really helps to see them all laid out side by side.

TeanutRear Admiral•

Would you be willing to post the Excel/Google Docs version? Or update it with the Avenger?

2
Ghost404Hello mobile users.•

The Avenger's on there; right between the 300i and the M50.

3
TeanutRear Admiral•

Oops, my mistake. Up too late watching the live stream!

3
Ghost404Hello mobile users.•

Likewise. So very tired now.

KhalkuRear Admiral•

Can you post the excel? skydrive or google docs is prob best for people to copy.

I don't get it, how does the Retaliator have 5 class 4 hardpoints, but 8 turrets equipped o_O

5
daceOPHigh Admiral•

As far as we've been told so far it currently has:

3 twin-gun turrets and 2 single-gun turrets, for a total of 8 guns in 5 turrets.

Those are the 5 turrets usable by the 5 other crew aside from the pilot.

My head... Ouch... Data overload

Just concentrate on the pretty colors and bars!

Leudast•

So, like, I'm confused.

Will we be able to buy ships with in-game currency? Or is this a strictly cash deal and we don't have access to anything other than what we pledged?

3
Ghost404Hello mobile users.•

From the top of this post actually:

Everything you see now can be earned in-game. This is all just if you want to support the game early and get LTI for your ships.

Edit: The $40 tier is the cheapest you can get the game and alpha/beta access right now; comes with an Aurora spaceship.

Leudast•

Ahh, I'm used to a lot of subreddits and their population's comments being decidedly unhelpful. This is refreshing, and I will endeavor to read more before posting. Thanks!

2
haryesidurTowel•

You will absolutely be able to get ships in game for game currency.

There's no NEED to spend more than the cost of the game to play the game. It's fully functional without further purchases.

The reason we're spending more is for the most part because we keep throwing our money at the screen, and things start happening.

3
Leudast•

Well I think I'll start throwing money as well. Thanks!

makorunnerGolden Ticket Holder•

this may have been answered already I'm not sure I'm new to this subreddit. I'm looking at the pledge prices, are these the price we'll have to pay to get the ship period? I thought there would be a way to get these ships ingame.

oh thank god there was no way i was going to spend 100's of dollars. It still sounds like some of these ships will be limited though for example only 250 idris'? I want me a capital ship something fierce.

2
daceOPHigh Admiral•

There should definitely be some way to get an Idris in the game (by boarding and stealing one with a team, if nothing else). It will likely be very difficult and/or expensive though.

The prerelease Idrises were $1000 or $1250 and are sold out.

2
xelvekiRear Admiral•

Indeed. I had figured that you would pick it up for the LTI.

This is incorrect - if you steal my ship with LTI, I get a new hull with LTI. The one you stole does not retain the insurance, and you can't insure stolen ships.

That is the whole point of insurance...

9
NecroclysmHigh Admiral•

I really wish I could swap my Constellation to the Retaliator... but you lose all the other bonuses that you get with the Constellation Rear Admiral pledge when you reclaim it.
I don't care if it would just reclaim the ship and keep the bonuses while giving less return... that would work for me, but another $250 isn't even close to my budget :/

2
daceOPHigh Admiral•

I'm always curious about ship selection - what's the draw on the Retaliator for you?

I like the Connie since the Retaliator will always require other crew to be effective and at least the Connie can be piloted solo with some success, plus the Retaliator is looking much slower, less cargo space, and missiles are likely expensive. It feels like the Retaliator is meant as a cap-ship killer for corporations/guilds or fleet warfare.

5
NecroclysmHigh Admiral•

That is exactly what I want it for though. My friends all have Constellation pledges with me.

The latest I heard on NPC gunners is they will be useful, not just completely worthless. The comment was basically such that having a human would be better in most cases, but if the human gunner sucks then the NPCs can very well be better. It sounded more like the NPC gunners wouldn't be made superhuman AIs, but still be competent so that your ship isn't useless if none of your friends are on.

The Retaliator would be perfect for me to fly support as a gunship with the Constellations, though. It may not be designed as a gunship, but the large amount of turrets and missile swarms will still be immensely useful for that.

I can still purchase the Constellation later of course, in-game, but the Retaliator looks to be the more expensive ship and I would rather have that on LTI. Not paying for insurance on the Retaliator means you can afford a lot more ammo :p

4
daceOPHigh Admiral•

Awesome. sounds like a fearsome sight - I'm sure even a corvette crew would want to stay the hell away from a competent Retaliator and a couple Connies.

Just FYI don't count on insurance making up the difference though - they've said insurance is a relatively cheap twice-per-year cost, missiles are expensive enough that you think about it before you shoot them, and hiring good NPCs (especially 5 for a Retaliator) will be flat out expensive.

I'm hoping the AI's wont be too expensive. I live in a weird time zone with many of my gaming friends/family, and wont have people on to crew my connie very often. I'm a little worried about piloting it alone, but I really want it to be my main ship out exploring and smuggling.

Looks great at a glance. Thanks!

e: I think the Constellation officially lost its Class 1 HPs

1
daceOPHigh Admiral•

I was looking for a source on that since I remembered the forum post but couldn't find it since the search on the new forums isn't great and search engines haven't indexed it yet. Do you have a source link?

The last Jump Point and all the wikis/pages still say it has them.

2
FumperLumper•

What does "tr" stand for?

1
daceOPHigh Admiral•

Thrust Rating - they're different thruster classes. Higher numbers mean more powerful thrusters - e.g. a TR5 thruster should put out significantly more thrust than a TR1, but also require more power.

Also look at:

3
KhalkuRear Admiral•

You sure? Wouldn't that make it pretty defenseless without others on board?

Google cache from old forums -- RobIrving says:

As always when someone asks a ship component question on here, I will quote the original ships document:

BIG DISCLAIMER: These are our current specifications on paper. Some of this is likely to change during the 3D design and game balancing process over the next 24 months. Despite this they should give a good indication of the relative features and abilities of the 5 initial ships that are available to early backers

So in the case of the Constellation, the class 1 weapons really weren't practical for the ship's large size, as they wouldn't create enough of a field of fire. They became class 2 weapons in most cases.

Also, there will be more than 4 classes of weapons before all is said and done.

No Idris or Scythe?

1
daceOPHigh Admiral•

I have those + the Bengal in the full version, but didn't include them because:

a) the Idris/Bengal stats are so high vs. the other ships it made the comparison bars totally useless
b) people can't currently buy them and it just made the chart bigger.

If people are interested I can post that version too, and just remove the Idris/Bengal comparison bars.

2
DoktorTeufelGrand Admiral•

I'm definitely interested, fantastic work.

I recommend using whatever image editing tools you have available to color the Idris/Bengal stat comparison bars (or the bare background) in a striking way, indicating that they're off the charts. It's probably better than leaving the fields white.

What does the "engine modifier" mean? Where was this gathered from?

1
daceOPHigh Admiral•

The engine modifier row is the number of engine modifier slots the ship will have. As mentioned here, engine modifiers are "upgrade modules that affect the overall performance of the engine". There's a partial list of ones we know about so far here.

This is all gathered from a few different sources, but primarily the official ship docs under the "Ships" section of the official site.

CircleTheFire•

The more I see stuff like this, the more I think the Freelancer is the best all-around ship for solo players who want to do a little but if everything(trade, explore, pirate) without owning a bunch if different ships. Glad u fledged for one!
