Happy Chaos
The scene opens with the members of the Anhe family enjoying a mini vacation in Bai He Huai’s apothecary. With Su Mu Yu offering huge discounts on medical consultations, Su Zhe lighting firecrackers, and Su Changhe spending money like water, we see them behaving like a cute chaotic family for a while.
I really enjoy seeing them all relaxed and doing the most random things.
Su Mu Yu’s Next Quest
Su Mu Yu announces his next quest, a lone visit to Wushuang City under his real name, Zhou Yue’an, Young City Lord of No-Sword City.
In Wushuang City, we are introduced to Song Yanhui, the disciple of the city lord of Wushuang City, and his own young disciple.
This particular scene is fascinating because it gives us a peek into Song Yanhui’s backstory and the rise of the child prodigy named Wushuang.
In xianxia terms, think of Song Yanhui as someone stuck in a particular martial art stage, unable to break through to become a Sword Deity.
He compares himself to Li Hanyi, who is younger but has already achieved the revered title of Sword Deity.
The Wushuang Box
By a lake, Song Yanhui tries to open the Wushuang Box, a mysterious artifact containing thirteen swords, but he fails.
His young disciple offers to help and surprisingly manages to open it, though he faints immediately afterward.
Later, Song Yanhui renames him Wushuang, symbolizing new hope for Wushuang City in the jianghu.
Gifts and Separation
The scene cuts to Bai He Huai gifting Su Mu Yu a fine sword since he can’t use his identity as Su Mu Yu in Wushuang City.
She also gifts him a spider she got from Mu Yu Mo.
Su Mu Yu and the loves of his life.
Our main characters; Su Changhe and Su Mu Yu, suffer another separation as Su Changhe returns to Anhe to quell a growing mutiny, while Su Mu Yu travels alone, dressed in a gorgeous red hanfu.
Zhou Yue’an’s Gamble
In a town near Wushuang, Su Mu Yu, traveling under his real name Zhou Yue’an, wins a Wushuang Token after gambling with the spider gift.
Su Mu Yu on his way to win a gamble.
On his way to the border of Wushuang City, he is stopped and extorted at a checkpoint. Disappointed by Wushuang City’s corruption, he ends up fighting Lu Yuzhai, a martial artist and disciple of the city lord.
He uses Sikong Changfeng’s famous spear techniques to defeat Lu Yuzhai, despite never having trained with a spear.
Can we talk about how goated this scene is? Learning thirteen of thirty-three spear moves after seeing them once five years ago, and without being a spearman, is insane!
It makes me wonder if Su Mu Yu would have become a Sword Deity if he were just a regular martial artist without his Anhe ties.
Mutiny in Anhe
While Su Mu Yu fights in Wushuang, Su Changhe handles a mutiny in Anhe.
I dare say the scene where he fights the assassins sent after him is his best fight scene so far, it really shows a glimpse of his strength.
Back in Anhe, the mutiny arises from a family member who wants to become head of the Su family. Su Changhe quickly realizes a powerful person is pulling the strings behind the rebellion.
The Four Martial Artists
After defeating the main guard at the checkpoint, Su Mu Yu is stopped again at the final barrier.
The Four Martial Artists of Lunwu Hall, Wushuang City, take turns fighting him—but he defeats them all without even unsheathing his sword.
Through the battle, they realize their master hasn’t been teaching them true martial arts but instead using them for his personal ambitions.
Su Mu Yu’s Challenge
seeing little Wushuang felt so warm tbh. Like, I know this kid!
After his victory, Su Mu Yu goes to the gate of Wushuang City, challenging the entire city to a duel.
The corrupt master of the four martial artists steps forward to fight him, but Su Mu Yu uses the skills learned from his father to defeat him.
He summons a powerful surge of sword energy and defeats the old master—again, without unsheathing his blade.
Song Yanhui descends to defend Wushuang City’s dignity but finds himself conflicted.
The city lord of Wushuang, who is also the main perpetrator behind the massacre of No-Sword City and Su Mu Yu’s family, arrives, stopping Song Yanhui from taking up the duel.
Finally, Su Mu Yu unsheathes his sword and declares his intent to defeat and kill the old city lord to avenge his family and settle the long-standing grudge between No-Sword City and Wushuang City.
For the first time in a long while, Su Mu Yu’s swordsmanship carries a murderous intent.
Personal Thoughts
Like I said earlier, I can’t help wondering if Su Mu Yu has the potential to become a Sword Deity based on his fight scenes and techniques. He’s certainly no less skilled than Li Hanyi or other top martial artists like Baili Dongjun and Sikong Changfeng.
But maybe I’m reaching, what do you think?
I’m honestly not surprised by the mutiny in Anhe. It was bound to happen. Su Changhe’s absence probably played a part in it too.
Think of it like a newly crowned king going on vacation the day after conquering a kingdom, of course there’ll be internal strife!
Still, I understand the need for a break, and I enjoyed their peaceful moments together. But part of me hoped Su Changhe would return to his assassins sooner, before some of them got manipulated by opportunists.
Anyway, I’m glad he managed to regain control.
Let’s talk about Su Mu Yu in red hanfu and those gorgeous fight scenes. At this point, I honestly can’t pick a favorite because every one of them hits.
I do wish we saw more of Su Changhe’s fights though.
Even though I didn’t want them to separate, I’m curious to see how each of them handles things on their own. It might give us deeper insight into how their paths will eventually diverge.
