Novel fan translation: Love Beyond the Grave
Main characters: He Simu, alias He Xiaoxiao, Sovereign of Spirits
Duan Xu, courtesy name Shunxi, cult name Seventeen
Ep 17: Duan Xu once again has made himself into a blanket burrito.
He Simu creates a barrier for him but he has to stay near her. He's a very annoying puppy. Yan Ke is increasingly annoyed by Duan Xu too. Duan Xu makes He Simu a little fox:
Duan Xu attends court and tries to guess what the various ghosts are obsessed with. Jiang An visits Yan Ke and offers him a way for He Simu and Duan Xu to stay apart, though she does want to get paid (I think her obsession is wealth... yes it is). Lol! Jiang An double crossed Yan Ke and gave He Simu a cure! Love her.
They go to find some orchids that can keep Duan Xu alive. An illusion of He Simu's father lets Duan Xu see her as a child and they learn that her mother was also harmed by the cold poison. Curing Duan Xu drains a bunch of He Simu's energy. After she recovers, they go watch the moon on her spirit lantern.
Ep 18: Duan Xu and He Simu go investigate a ghost who doesn't seem to know that he's dead. He's a 1000 year dead general who is guarding a gate from his past. Maybe. He won't tell his real name. Yan Ke shows up to arrest him but He Simu lets him go.
Turns out he has a super tragic backstory. He was a wandering ghost who decided to defend a town, but they were all slaughtered by war. Anyway, focus on the pretty Ascension Pool:
Duan Xu and his little escort spirit go to Jiang An's gambling house. He challenges her to dice. They play some dice/bow game that seems very complicated, but Duan Xu is doing well. When he wins, he finds out Jiang An actually bet on him winning and cheated all the spirits out of their money (that's illegal in the mortal world Jiang An!).
Jiang An asks for Duan Xu to stay longer in the void because he's just so fun, much to He Simu's annoyance. She's still fixing the spirit tree.
These episodes are mostly filler but they are very fun to watch because the Void is so pretty and Duan Xu is so chaotic. He's like a happy puppy. This is late because of Easter and I was also writing Pursuit of Jade/Chasing Jade fan fiction.
