Who's going out for restaurant week?

Posted Oct 19, 2015, 11:50 AM UTC

eziamShort Pump•

I'm going to take my week old crying newborn to all the restaurants on the list and annoy all you fucking fucks. Suck it kid free people. Welcome to my hell

25
draginflyDowntown•

Do you need an intervention of some sort? I feel like the sleep deprivation/80s fantasy/scifi marathon may be starting to wear on you.

6
ThatFifthDentistHenrico•

It's only because he hasn't watched Maximum Overdrive, the greatest 80s movie of all time, yet.

6
Go3TeamShort Pump•

Now I know which movie I'm going to veg out to later.

3
ThatFifthDentistHenrico•

It won't disappoint.

3
RickAgavemeupAMAForest Hill•

Bill and Ted came out in 89. That's my pick.

3
ThatFifthDentistHenrico•

So there are good movies, bad movies, and movies so bad they're good again. Bill and Ted falls into the first category, Maximum Overdrive is the third.

4
Danger-MooseLakeside•

You know Bill and Ted 3 is coming, right?

3
Danger-MooseLakeside•

Working on your lasagna this week as well as u/RickAgavemeupAMA. Any special requests?

4
RickAgavemeupAMAForest Hill•

I can't eat any but my wife can as long as it's vegetarian.

2
Danger-MooseLakeside•

They way I'm making it you can totes eat it. I already have plans for your special diet.

3
RickAgavemeupAMAForest Hill•

No sugar, no carbs? More trouble than it's worth. I don't eat real food most of the time anyway.

4
skeezyrattytroll•

Wait until you have grandchildren and can take them out to restaurant week to annoy people!

It's the best of having kids and not having kids at the same time. Almost as good as finding a Mounds and an Almond Joy in the same wrapper!

3
VCUBNFO•
3
draginflyDowntown•

My cousin has one of those stick figure family things, except it's just a man and his wife and a giant pile of cash.

5
Asterion7Forest Hill•

Don't forget all the free time you have to spend said money. I remember the days when I saw movies in a theater. Not six months later over a crying baby before giving up and going to bed anyway.

0
RickAgavemeupAMAForest Hill•

Rough first week?

2
eziamShort Pump•

It was easier when I was in my 20s. Late nights and no other kids didn't wear me down. Now with two other kids and a middle aged man body, I am tried. Still loving life and this little man.

3
RickAgavemeupAMAForest Hill•

I had my first 3 when I was 19-23, definitely had more energy then. I have a lot more patience at almost 40 though, so it balances out.

2
theladydoorForest Hill•

Ugh. My car was broken into last night. Guess it was my turn! Luckily I didn't have anything valuable in there (though I can't believe they didn't want my Frozen soundtrack!). They just got a few dollars and some change. The thing that annoys me most is that my car now reeks of cigarette smoke.

12
draginflyDowntown•

You need [this] (http://www.amazon.com/Fresh-Wave-Natural-Neutralizing-Spray/dp/B0016PS3I4).

Source: my mom is stillllll smoking.

6
theladydoorForest Hill•

Thanks! I'll try anything.

2
Go3TeamShort Pump•

Hopefully they didn't drop the butt in there. That would make it stink pretty bad.

5
tippepippeMuseum District•

Get that butt to the crime lab!

5
mylittleponyhellLakeside•

Stop at a pet store and get some charcoal filters from the fish area. Stick them under your seats and it should pull some of it out. Sorry about your car =0(

5
theladydoorForest Hill•

That's a good idea too. Someone in my neighborhood said her car was also hit and they actually put the cigarette out in her center console.

2
mylittleponyhellLakeside•

It's like rubbing salt in a wound.

3
AgentBawlsStratford Hills•

someone call team to swab for DNA! They can totally match it, just like those crime TV shows, right?

2
Danger-MooseLakeside•

Enhance!

3
ReindeerPoopRVALakeside•

Ugh, I'm sorry. But glad it wasn't anything worse.

4
hellrunnerOPNorthside•

Oh fuck that's awful. I can't stand cigarette smoke. How'd they get in?

3
theladydoorForest Hill•

I could have sworn I locked the door so either I was wrong about that or they used something to jimmy it open. My guess is I only thought I locked it because I can't imagine going through all that effort when there wasn't anything visibly of value to take.

3
hellrunnerOPNorthside•

Not something I do often, but I was surprised at how easy it was to get into my friend's S-10 when she locked her keys in.

4
RickAgavemeupAMAForest Hill•

Most older vehicles are incredibly easy to get into. They used to sell Slim jims at stores like Family Dollar.

3
theladydoorForest Hill•

My car is really easy to get into if you don't have a key.

3
tippepippeMuseum District•

Weirdest timing, too, since it was just yesterday that RPD (I assume) went around placing fliers on cars as a reminder to keep belongings out of sight, etc.

Also, as much as it all sucks, I couldn't help but laugh when you told me they skipped taking the CDs.

3
Go3TeamShort Pump•

Years ago, someone broke into my buddy's car and stole all his tapes. His tape player just had fast forward on it. You had to eject it and turn it over to switch to the other side. He was so pissed.

8
theladydoorForest Hill•

I mean, I can understand not taking the Florence and the Machine but that Taylor Swift's Red album has so much emotional value that I figured anyone would grab it if they had the chance!

4
tippepippeMuseum District•

I'm just picturing like a hipster/hobo rummaging through your car, rifling through your CDs and tossing them aside with a "Meh"

7
Danger-MooseLakeside•

Oooh... Bon Iver!

5
theladydoorForest Hill•

I love this. This is how I'm going to imagine the break-in from now on. Hipsters would definitely hate my music choices.

3
Danger-MooseLakeside•

They most likely already have the Red album. I mean, who doesn't?

5
theladydoorForest Hill•

Fair point. I was at least smart enough to take 1989 inside the house.

6
Asterion7Forest Hill•

Wait you listen to compact discs? What year is this? I think I have had the same smashing pumpkins cd in my cars player for 3 years.

0
Asterion7Forest Hill•

Can't believe that happened on your block. Was it locked?

3
tippepippeMuseum District•

I've seen some sketchy people riding bikes through the neighborhood.

4
JCfromRVAWest End•

That's just u/Asterion7 , he's mostly harmless.

6
theladydoorForest Hill•

It shouldn't be too much of a surprise. The two houses that were broken into this summer were one and two blocks from me and the car break-ins have been happening all over. I guess it was just a matter of time before they got to my street.

I could have sworn my car was locked last night but I could be mistaken.

3
RickAgavemeupAMAForest Hill•

It's happening in all the neighborhoods here. Car and home break-ins everywhere. Hoping the 30 day blitz they are doing has some positive effect.

3
molluskichAtlee•

It's Monday again. Why does this keep happening??

11
gooeyfishusMuseum District•

(To be read in the voice of film noir detective and his girl Friday)

"Every week. The same time every week. It happens."

"What happens?"

"Monday."

5
draginflyDowntown•

This week on Johnny Dollar, the man with the action packed expense account!

3
Asterion7Forest Hill•

Just getting to the daily now.

0
molluskichAtlee•

Wow. No redditing at lunch?

1
Asterion7Forest Hill•

Not today. Was busy running to wawas

0
thisisATHENS•

Gonna hit up Cook Out.

I want to start a franchise in Short Pump proper. Make fucking bank.

10
balance07Short Pump•

please do this. there are a few parcels of land available in the john rolfe commons shopping center.

5
eziamShort Pump•

My neighbor and I want to build one right across from the Shire Place on the strip they cleared.

3
balance07Short Pump•

yes please. or anywhere within moped distance, really.

3
TANDY386Ashland•

i still need to try that place out

3
grizzlebro•

It's kinda standard fast food fare. But when you realize you're paying $5 and can get a double cheeseburger, corn dog, and chicken wrap then it becomes amazing.

For a dollar more, you can switch your giant-ass diabetes-inducing sweet tea out for a milkshake, of which you can supposedly request ten different flavors to be mixed together for no charge.

2
VCUBNFO•

Cook out seems to be a very lucrative franchise.

2

Thats what im eating.

2
MoreChipsandSalsa•

Fuuuuuuck. Forgot it was restaurant week. Supposed to go out for client dinners all week. This should be a fun clusterfuck to deal with.

7
tippepippeMuseum District•

Hah, good luck with that. Maybe go somewhere that's not participating? I hadn't looked at the list too hard, but maybe Sullivan's has some seating available?

6
MoreChipsandSalsa•

Uggh. First place we are going tonight is definitely participating. Hope someone had the foresight to make reservations at least!

3
bigalsjams•

Wait...it's going to be crowded? See you in a week. I'll pay more for a non-cattle-herding experience.

2
AgentBawlsStratford Hills•

I'll pay more

It's 29.15 per meal without drinks, etc.....that's more than the S/O and I typically spend out. 3 course or not, I'm skipping this week because it's going to be expensive.

1
DirectiveNineteenThe Fan•

I'm opening a show on Friday so I'm pretty sure dinners this week are going to be Chipotle or whatever I can find leftover from the weekend in the theater.

Also I have even less desire to go into work today than usual. My only pair of clean-ish jeans smells like campfire because they were in my tent all weekend which was downwind. So I'll be fighting nostalgia and dirty looks all day.

7
ThatFifthDentistHenrico•

I'm pretty sure dinners this week are going to be Chipotle

And this is a problem because...

5
DirectiveNineteenThe Fan•

Generally it's not, but I'd rather eat restaurant week food than the same burrito bowl every day.

2
gooeyfishusMuseum District•

Mmmm campfire. The "illegal" scented candle I have at work is pine forest. Come bring the campfire....

Though you're a lawyer. I've got enough of those here... Do I need another one? :p

3
Danger-MooseLakeside•

Balsam fir is perhaps my favoritest smell in the world. Aside from napalm in the morning, of course.

6
gooeyfishusMuseum District•

Smells like... Victory

A few years ago my brother bought scented candles for my dad's girlfriend. Turns out she was allergic to something in the "Vermont Pine Forest" so I took it.

It smelled exactly like I remember it. Fresh and sharp and woody subtlety. Earthy with a tinge of rain. It lingered long after it stopped burning. I loved that candle and I've never found a replacement because I can't remember the brand name

3
Danger-MooseLakeside•

Every time I smell balsam fir I'm reminded of hiking in alpine forests. It's the best.

3
ThatFifthDentistHenrico•

I've been watching a tiny spider build a web between my computer monitor and my desk for the past half hour. On pace for record low productivity this Monday.

edit 1: I have named him Fabrizio.

edit 2: Fabrizio appears to be taking a break from web building. Maybe this is my cue to be productive.

edit 3: Web building has resumed. Point of contact three is my iPhone. I'm not sure whether it's better to ruin the web now, or let him do his thing for the day and take my phone when it's time to go home.

7
JCfromRVAWest End•

1320: Fabrizio takes his union break.

3
ReindeerPoopRVALakeside•

Well?? Did you ruin his web mid-day or wait for the crushing blow at the end of the work day??

1
rvaisforhaters•

Suck it. This is the first comment. If you ain't first your last

6
RickAgavemeupAMAForest Hill•

Your last what? The suspense is killing me!

5
balance07Short Pump•

dibs on last.

3
KiloLeeEastern Henrico•

Not if i can help it!

3
tippepippeMuseum District•

You'll have to try harder!

4
CharlieOnTheMTAMechanicsville•

I'm not going to try at all, and I bet I'm last.

4
hellrunnerOPNorthside•

I feel like the exclamation point must have upset you somehow.

3
jennysaurrr•

Someone went into our backyard last night and left the gate open, sleepy eyed me didn't notice when I let the dogs out and my Boxer got away. Luckily we found him, I'm pretty sure the people who put him in the car were going to just keep him.

6
Go3TeamShort Pump•

This happened to us once or twice. Dookie got out and I cut myself pretty good trying to get him out of the woods. We put some locks on the gates after that. We've got some cameras if someone wants to get really crazy.

6
jennysaurrr•

Yeah, I'm going to Lowes after work to get a lock. If we had been a minute later I probably would have never seen my Winston ever again. :(

5
CharlieOnTheMTAMechanicsville•

Hey! Your dog stole my cat's name!

1
theladydoorForest Hill•

I too had a cat named Winston!

2
balance07Short Pump•

what kind of locks u use? can they be unlocked from the outside, or only from the inside?

3
Go3TeamShort Pump•

It's a "lock" similar to this:

http://www.lowes.com/pd_51080-1277-SP1261_2zbktZ1z11oiv__?productId=1187149&pl=1

It has a hole that we use a regular pad lock on.

Our fence is about 4 feet, so one can reach over and unlock it if they have the key.

3
balance07Short Pump•

BORING!

i want a fence gate lock that i can lock and unlock from either side of the fence.

3
theladydoorForest Hill•

:-( That's so scary! I'm glad you were able to get him back.

3
mylittleponyhellLakeside•

So not only did someone break into your backyard, but then someone else tried to take the dog? What the hell is going on with people lately

3
jennysaurrr•

No clue. We have some junk on our back porch that we need to take to the dump, so they probably thought there was something they could take. Also Winston is a purebred boxer who looks young, so they were probably stoked. Ugggghh.

1
Danger-MooseLakeside•

This happened to us yesterday, but it was our neighbor that left the gate open after delivering us some fill dirt.

2
xRVAxCarillon•

just wanted to make sure people saw this review of RVA --> https://www.reddit.com/r/rva/comments/3p36ot/show_me_around_richmond/cw4tv6i

6
Der_Bluten_KatChurch Hill•

Back in the office for under 10 min and three people already have tried to make me feel guilty about taking a vacation.

hey its monday, so you should play the best rap song of all time on your way to work

5
JCfromRVAWest End•

how was your vacation?

3
Der_Bluten_KatChurch Hill•

It was good. Saw some great people that I haven't seen in a long time. Unplugged from work, for once. But I'm happy to be back.

3
AgentBawlsStratford Hills•

Fuck 'em. They're just jealous of you being away from work for a while.

3
Der_Bluten_KatChurch Hill•

Lions don't lose sleep over the opinions of sheep.

4
JCfromRVAWest End•

Except for that very sensitive lion, he cares.

2
doktorcrashScott's Addition•

Don't feel too bad about it, I once lost a job because other employees were unhappy with the 4 days I took off for my wedding.

1
ReindeerPoopRVALakeside•

Going to a meeting today where a year's worth of work is likely going to unravel. Let's see if I can save this...

5
draginflyDowntown•

I'm not sure we're ready for this meeting. Maybe we need a pre-meeting. Maybe we need to brainstorm before we pre-meet about the meeting.

6
theladydoorForest Hill•

I have six meetings this week that are to prep for meetings I have next week that were scheduled with the purpose of prepping those people for meetings they're having the following week.

6
1224Museum District•

I do not miss that life. At all.

5
theladydoorForest Hill•

I'm glad someone was able to escape the madness. What does freedom taste like?

5
ReindeerPoopRVALakeside•

Don't forget the mid-meeting de-brief over lunch.

4
draginflyDowntown•

Maybe we should grab a drink and talk details.

3
ReindeerPoopRVALakeside•

It was rough. I'm pretty cranky. And now I have to clean the house, which makes me crankier.

2
Canard427Northside•

The Barktoberfest event at Strangeways went very well yesterday. It was very well laid out and organized- big thanks to the employees there for pulling off a great event. Day off today, so everyone have fun at work.

5
CircumcisedSpineDowntown•

Whoa... I was almost fast enough to start the daily thread!

I'm up preternaturally early for a doctor's appointment. How barbaric.

As for restaurant week... I'm kind of over it since it often doesn't give a good impression of a restaurant and isn't always a good deal. At least in DC, the restaurants are slammed and the prices aren't really that great. It's better to experience new places by going at lunch, if they do a lunch service. I don't know if Richmond's RW went downhill like DC's, but it's hard for me to get excited.

4
xRVAxCarillon•

preternaturally

+1 for vocab

8
ReindeerPoopRVALakeside•

We feel the same way about Restaurant Week. Haven't done it in several years.

4
Danger-MooseLakeside•

I don't feel like it went downhill, so much as it was never great to begin with. I'm never too huge into any of these "weeks" (burger, sandwich, restaurant) because I don't feel like the restaurants put their best foot forward. And really, why should they? They are catering to people who don't normally go to their restaurant and probably will continue to not go after and at a discounted rate.

3
CircumcisedSpineDowntown•

It's almost as bad as eating out on Valentine's Day.

5
Danger-MooseLakeside•

(o_Ŏ)

5
CircumcisedSpineDowntown•

Slammed restaurant. Overwhelmed wait staff trying to turn tables quickly. Menu truncated (and possibly overpriced).

4
KiloLeeEastern Henrico•

Tried Carrabba's and Bottoms Up Pizza for the first time this weekend. Would go back to both. Suck it, Olive Garden.

4
draginflyDowntown•

People have seriously mixed feelings on BU, but I love it. You have to appreciate it for what it is!

4
Danger-MooseLakeside•

Exactly. It's not New York style, which I think throws people off.

4
KiloLeeEastern Henrico•

I thought it was pretty good. My buddy and I got a large mexican pizza (sans jalapeños for me), and took a slice each back home. Very hearty pizza, none of the thin crap from the chains. Service was good as well; everyone was friendly!

3
Ace417Henrico•

Yay! I'm finally back at work!

3
tiglathpilesarChurch Hill•

We're doing La Grotta on Thursday with friends. Their beef carpaccio is nigh on worth killing for.

3
YellowOrangeHenrico•

Why did my short work week last week after the three day weekend feel so long, but the two day weekend feel sooooo short.

Time perception wins again.

3
1224Museum District•

In my mind this reads like a word problem. If Train A leaves Helsinki at 0800 going 120 kph and Train B...

In other words, I don't know the answer to your question.

2
tippepippeMuseum District•

Anyone in the Forest Hill area that might know what the white paper with the ghost printed on it is for? I've noticed more and more of them on front doors while out walking.

3
JCfromRVAWest End•
5
Danger-MooseLakeside•

Oops! I might have to switch my Halloween costume...

3
mylittleponyhellLakeside•

Maybe it's a indicator they are handing out candy on Halloween... then again I don't know why they'd put it out so early.

5
RickAgavemeupAMAForest Hill•

So you can map out your trip ahead of time.

3
tippepippeMuseum District•

Place a sign in advance warning that you'll only be giving out raisins. They'll plan to avoid your house.

2
theladydoorForest Hill•

That's one theory we have but I haven't seen any announcement about this on the facebook page or on the neighborhood website. They're all using the same image though so if that's the case then they're getting it from somewhere.

3
mylittleponyhellLakeside•

Maybe from the schools? Ohhhh wait what if it's one of those allergy sensitive things. Like the homes that wont be passing out gluten or peanut stuff.

3
Danger-MooseLakeside•

I saw that some people are putting out different colored/painted pumpkins to show that? Life is getting stupid complicated. I'm just giving out pennies and razor blades this year.

8
theladydoorForest Hill•

That was another theory, in which case I guess they were handed out by the schools. I'm just going to have to post to the Facebook page and see if anyone will tell me.

2
goldfine•

Did it come with a bad of candy? Maybe you were "Ghosted" or "Boo-ed"? My old neighborhood normally did it around Halloween to spread the spirit.

4
Danger-MooseLakeside•

spread the spirit

Heh.

3
tippepippeMuseum District•

That's probably what it is, thanks!

1
molluskichAtlee•

One October when I was a kid, I found a small bag of candy and a paper ghost taped to my front door. There were instructions on the back of the paper ghost to photocopy and pass him on to another neighborhood kid with another bag of candy. Then you leave the ghost on your door so your friends know you've been "visited" already. Could it be something like that?

3
theladydoorForest Hill•

This could the answer!!

2
fusion260Museum District•

I picked the wrong week to go to NYC :( Oh well, maybe I can catch up on Thursday when I get back.

3
