I think the height and reach was much more of an issue than the weight. As well as the fact that Diaz is about as durable as they come.
Watched this fight a bunch of times now , I can't believe diaz just ate all those lefts
I've read multiple sources saying Nate was around 185-190 before he took the fight so weight definitely played a role in his power and his ability to take punishment against a smaller fighter.
Really? I never seen any of this. Do you have links? I would've never though that Nate got that big, especially since he was "training for a triathlon."
look at my reply to leaction
link please
(reddit comment, so w/e, but I have no reason to not believe it).
That sounds crazy
You got it perfectly right.
Even if Conor packed on enough muscle he couldn't ever really contend with real welterweights.
I'm glad this puts all the McGregor vs Lawler/GSP nonsense.
Conor is a huge featherweight and it's insane he even makes weight.
He's perfect at lightweight.
this was essentially a lightweight fight. only difference if it was officially at 155 is that diaz would have had a full camp and probably would have been deadlier
You gotta have more horsepower if you're going to pack on more muscle.
I don't know what that means but I like it
Nick Diaz pointed out that he thought Conor only had 2 rounds in him because he was coming up in weight and his body won't be able to adjust to the new mass. Thought that was interesting.
He was dead right too and Conor was gassing too
... then moving up to lightweight and enter the rankings around 5.
How does he enter the rankings around 5 when he got mirked by the number 5 ranked lightweight?
Cause the UFC loves him. They don't want him too far from that title.
Lightweight is just like Joe said a murderers row. Its by far the hardest division in the UFC. And I would say Conor didn't look bad he might make a title run there, but we will see.. He lost a lot of momentum he has to bounce back first, might not even defend his title we will see how he handles his loss.
Weight matters, but I honestly think reach plays a huge part. Conor, Jones, Cruz, Wonderboy... these guys all have reach advantages. Hell, Nate had the reach advantage over Conor.
But at the end of the day. anyone can lose on any night.
In a perfect world, Struve would be in that list too
True, reach isn't everything. You still have to have the skills.
Rogan had it right, this was a lightweight fight without the weight cut.
Conor got owned by someone with great stand-up and amazing JJ.
Watch Nate vs Aldo
Easy win for Diaz?
nate vs aldo doesnt exist.
I never want to see him fight at welterweight. Never.
But I do think he could still easily be a two division world champion in the UFC. Go back to featherweight, beat Frankie and Jose(again) and then come back up for a shot against RDA. This loss didn't set him back as far as people think
He won't beat Frankie
Yeah he will. I like Frankie but he's not beating Conor. Frankie belongs in bantamweight, he's pulling a McGregor and fighting out of weight class.
He was fighting out of weight class when he was champion at lightweight.
I know. But it's different the older you get. Frankie isn't in his 20's anymore.
It's possible for him tag Frankie, but I don't think he'll get another immediate title shot at lightweight. He's gonna have to win against Ferguson, Pettis, Khabib, or Nate first.
