The Gods Told Me We Should Have Been!

Two poets they meet,
on a dating site,
and within weeks begin falling with ease.

Fueled by their words,
and with lust in their hearts,
friendship grows and expands by degrees.

Within months they profess,
their undying love,
as poets are want to behave.

But this passion and lust,
merely powered by prose,
led this love to an early grave.

Now she’s disappeared,
And he’s left here,
writing page upon page upon page.

And this gut-wrenching feeling,
which he can’t seem to shake,
That never again they’ll engage.
