Favorite low cal, high volume foods?

Going to the store! The cheaper the better.

Some of my favorites are pomegranate seeds (eat em like cereal), broccoli, and sugar snap peas.

Popcorn, airpopped with some chili powder or salt added. Or those little 100 calorie bags.

Or, with a little salt and a little nutritional yeast. Delicious, cheesy, AND full of B12.

something so satisfying about a bunch of zoodles with a little olive oil, garlic, chilli and parmesan.

ahhh teach me how to cook this. The few times I've made zoodles I didn't love the texture and had to do some gag-reflex wrangling. I mean it tasted good, but was a bit too crunchy? maybe

Hey CartoonMango! I really like cucumber as a snack, you can eat a lot for very low cal.

sunflower seeds! having to crack them for such a small food reward means i can be munching away for ages. i got a nice spicy flavoured one from an asian grocer. nomnomnom

Keep in mind though that sunflower seeds rank very high in calories. A typical serving contains roughly 160kcal and if you approach them with the mindset that they are low calorie, you may easily end up eating 300kcal+ in one sitting without even realizing.

TLDR: Yes, per seed they are low in calories. However if you don't weigh them in advance and snack them over the course of the day, you may end up consuming a lot of unwanted calories.

edit: With the right technique, cracking them takes not even a second per seed ;-)

I'm a slow cracker :p so a serve lasts me ages. but yes pre weighing a serve is a good move

Broccoli slaw, with a little Spicy Peanut Vinaigrette from TJ's. So good. Also, Spaans makes these meringue cookies that I get from Sprouts that are 15 for 80 calories. Perfect way to stave off my sweet tooth.

Spinach! I throw a handful into the pan with my eggs, add it to sandwiches or salads, or cook a bunch to throw on the side with dinner. I also love frozen blueberries or frozen grapes.

Right now I'm transitioning into high protein, lowish carb. This means making 8 lbs of various types of baked lean turkey meatballs, freezing them, then coming up with various dishes to throw them in. Each type of meatball gets its own MFP entry so I know how many cals each meatball is. Subbing spaghetti squash or those shirataki noodles for proper starches, depending on what the sauce is. Greek meatballs, italian, asian, etc etc. Lots and lots of roasted veggies. Definitely full after a massive bowl of that for dinner. You can really change up the flavors based on the spices that go in. Thinking about making a curry meatball on the next go-round to Costco. Highly recommend it.

Honeydew melon, lots of fruit not too much calories!

Also Japanese style vegetable noodle soup, easily the biggest volume meal I eat!

Do you have a recipe for that soup?

Raw red bell pepper, blackberries and carrots are my 3 favorite foods. They also just happen to be pretty low calorie and high volume. :)

Popcorn without sugar/fat addition is also very filling
