It effectively makes FFXIV a sequel to FFT & FF12 while confirming the links between both of those games. I was blown away. All the music felt so amazing to hear again.
I loved the inscription underwater that mirrored tavern dispatch job report language too!
And it makes me wonder: are any of the early astral/umbral eras FFT or FFXII time periods?

FFXII, tactics, etc. is not related in any way to FFXIV.
They are just borrowing the names, history and character for our own spin-off.
No they aren't connected the way you think. It's like a parallel universe. Things named similarly events are similar but they are not connected. FFXIV is in a different world than XII. XIV is a theme park MMO game and in order to bring things from older FF game they draw parallels. Just like the summons in every FF game. Similar but not the same.
i hope we get some ff type zero stuff since it also takes place in the ivalice universe
type zero is part of fabula nova crystallis, so XIII and not ivalice alliance which would be XII.

No, 14 isn't a sequel to the existing Ivalice universe games.
In fact, the timelines are reversed. 12 is chronologically the first Ivalice game, so for Dalmasca to be built on the ruins of Delitas capital makes no sense.
