Can we go back to the old challenges?

There were never many submissions, but it was still fun to participate. Can we go back to the simple themed procedural challenges? Maybe we could just try to have a user-hosted one instead of a mod-hosted one if the mods really don't want to go back to doing the challenges, but a regular post would get drowned out too quickly I'm afraid, maybe if some of you are interested I could talk to the moderators of the ProcJam discord server and see if they would be willing to host a monthly challenge there (unofficial discord used by participants of the ProcJam with a decent user base for procedural generation but also is used for general procedural generation talk)

UPDATE: the mods have restarted the challenges after seeing the interest in this post! Here it is, possibly the first good theme in a few years in my opinion.

I rarely finished them, but just thinking about them and prototyping was always nice, I would definitely enjoy them being back.

Could perhaps consider something that's less often than monthly too, like quarterly.

Maybe the mods would have no problem stickying threads if someone else did the actual process of the challenge.

What were some of the examples of the old challenges? Is there a place we can go back and look at them?

You can search "Monthly Challenge" on the sub. They started a new one after I made this post, so you can also go to the pinned message on the sub for the new one. They used to have them linked, not sure what happened to that but here is that last good one https://www.reddit.com/r/proceduralgeneration/comments/695oxj/monthly_challenge_17_april_2017_procedural/

There were 4-5 pretty uninteresting / too specific themes that got barely any entries, and I think the moderators just assumed no one was interested anymore, but as it turns out people were, just not in the strange themes.

Will this be hosted in Reddit? We should have weekly challenges where comments are submissions of participants.

Yes, good news the mods decided to start hosting it after all. Click Here for the new challenge, time frame is open for discussion so I recommend putting your comment there. I wasn't sure if the mods just didn't want to host it anymore, but as it turns out they just didn't know there was still interest.
