Did you make these for Axis and Allies?
Originally, yes for the miniatures game; not the board game. However at this point my motivations have shifted to a more general desire to have a fleet.
I also want to, at some point in the future, adjust my designs so they are printable at the board game size.
As someone who has a sizeable 1:1200/1:1250 fleet and a sizeable 1:2400 fleet, move to the board game size ASAP. It takes up so much less space and costs much less.
Thank you for the suggestion. I actually prefer the 1/1800 scale as a good compromise between the two scales you mentioned. The first being a bit large and the second having not enough detail. Cost is mostly print time, as I have a printer which reduces my personal costs significantly.
I'll be adjusting the designs to the smaller scale in order for them to be more accessible to different collectors, but personally I'm sticking with 1/1800.
Most of mine are pewter, and believe it or not, unless you spend tons (25 for a DD, 75-100 for a BB), 1/2400 has vastly better detail and is much easier to get ahold of. 3D printing changes the equation tho.
And a fleet you have.
Kudos
You could play an INSANE game of battleship with these
I'm hiding mine all in the FFF column
My first attempt had a slight problem, the printers have had jam problems recently. Pro-tip: if you want several ships, even of different types, print several ships at a time, especially if you use a communal printer with a queue as I do.
I'm really sorry to see that. It's a familiar site to me. I've had jam problems as well. I agree with your suggestion to print multiple ships at once. It's much more efficient when the printer works properly and doesn't jam half way through the print.
It's fine, it was a trial run anyway. In hindsight it allows me to try and emulate a few refits in the models, after I cut my teeth with the Nagara class. If those go well I'll send them your way so others can use them.
Cool let me know how they turn out!
What are these, Warships for Ants!
Remind me not to challenge you to a game of Battleship
It wouldn’t be called Battleship. Rather it’d be called “How many enemy ships can you sick before your fleet is tabled” (Tabled is a term for miniature wargaming, its where you kill the enemies force on the 1st turn)
I am sorry, but as a Battleship Texas knowledge freak, your USS New York is actually USS Texas. New York's 20mm Oerlikon Banks were one continuous row, while Texas' were split into groups like your model.
Edit - And you already know that whoops, carry on sir.
No need to be sorry. You're 100% correct. I call it the New York because I organize my designs by ship class but I deliberately chose to model the USS Texas in her late war configuration to represent the class. My reason for this was in support of the surviving Texas as well as simply the fact that I liked how it looked more.
Eventually I may go back and make a second or even more versions to represent not only the New York herself but also earlier fits of the ships. This is of course my hope for all my designs. First to design a model to represent the class, then once I'm done with that to go back and make additional versions.
That makes sense. You should make a flush deck New York as she was in 1914 to round it all out. And as she hardly saw any action in WWII its kinda fitting.
Looks like a start to the greatest game of Battleship ever.
These are cool, any plan to sell the model files or put them online?
Thank you! I do make the designs available for purchase with a few free ones as samples on CGTrader.

What is the price column?
Can I have a Dunkerque model? Or the STL?
The price column represents the price that I set for the models on CGTrader, where I sell the STL's. If you have access to a 3D printer, that's your best route. I do also sell through Shapeways or directly from my own printer, however these prices are different.
I think these are exported from World of Warships. The giveaway is the Republique (a nonexistant battleship for the French that serves as the Tier 10 ship in the game's tech tree) model in the bottom row.
Hi, these are not exported from WoWS and the French battleship in the bottom row is the Richelieu, not the Republique.
The WoWS models are unsuitable for 3D printing.
Yeah, I found that out on my own and I was really disappointed. I was really excited to print an Iowa class.
Sorry to disappoint, there is no Republique in there. Only a Richelieu/Jean Bart bottom left. There's also a monitor in there so I doubt they're all from Wows.
Heavy Breathing I need to get a Bismarck model!
Well there's a reason it was one of my first designs!
You made a Bismarck first?? My first name is Bismarck.
Not first. It was my sixth model. My first model was the South Dakota-class battleship.
Ah. Okay.

Hey I see a New York in there :)
Good eye. I actually modeled it off of the late-war heavy AA configuration of the USS Texas.
Do I see a post-modernization Tennessee (BB-43) in there? It's pretty distinct where they widened the hull to make room for four AA batteries on either side of the superstructure.
Yes good eye! I'll be running back and doing the pre-refit version eventually, but I'll basically have to start from scratch because of how different they are.
Yeah, they practically rebuilt her and her sister ship (the California) into South Dakota-class battleships with smaller main batteries. New superstructure (got rid of those awful cage masts), merging the funnels, bulging out the hull, adding that distinctive secondary battery, nevermind the internal work.
It's a damn shame they were scrapped not long after the war. Then again, it's always sad to see a big ship like them broken up, but Tennessee was somewhat prestigious - she was awarded the Navy Unit Commendation for her actions.
I really appreciate that you are making these models and selling them since the ones that come in the axis and allies naval minatures are so expensive now. Are these made out of the same material as the naval minatures models?
He’s back!

OMG I need this in my life. I used to play A&A War at Sea a fair bit, but now that they're not printing the game (or, more importantly, the ships) anymore, you can only get them by paying through the nose on places like eBay.
These ships already look great, and with a bit of paint, they would totally come alive!
This was my goal; to be able to play WaS without paying thousands. Are you aware of the Forumini community that put together a few more decks of units for the game?
That is awesome. I would love to get my hands on these.

If you are interested in this size of model check out the 1:1250 world. Nearly all significant ships ( not just warships ) are available in high quality finished models. Google Wiedling or 1250ships.com for catalogs and pictures.
I'm actually working in 1/1800 scale, not 1/1250.
I realized that, but 1/1250 is the primary scale for miniature ship models ( other than wargaming )
Alnavco can be a pain to deal with, but they’ve always been very helpful and gotten me what I needed. Just beware that if you look at (but don’t touch) the gorgeous Navis/Neptun models, be prepared for sticker shock. I’ve found GHQ 1/2400 to be almost as detailed at a fraction of the cost.
ALNAVCO is another US retailer. If just window shopping 1250ships.com has better and wider photo coverage. By the way, I have more than 4,000 1/1250 models including nearly the entire Neptun line. I think actually their price / quality ratio is very good. If you REALLY want to be blown away check out Spider Navy ..,
Was just about to ask how much money you spent to get all those models then realized you printed them all. Did you design them all yourself or did you find designs online?
I designed them all myself! The cost has been hundreds of hours but at least my monetary cost has been reduced.
Omg you absolute legend. Here I spent like a week making a tiger 1. Was hard finding proper blueprints and measurements.
Bear in mind that my first design took the absolute longest. A number of weeks as I tried to get everything right. Then once I put it into the printing software I realized a lot of what I had done wasn't coming through and I needed to adjust my design protocols. Many of these design protocols have allowed for reduced precision and increased design speed to best fit the scale that I'm printing them out.
I see that makes sense. Mine I was doing for a school project and the tiger tank was 1:1 scale lol so I needed to stick in every damn detail. Well teacher probably wouldn’t know much about tanks but I just needed to make it accurate for myself. I was gonna scale it down to print earlier but since I no longer have that class as it was 2 years ago the license on my computer for the program ran out and I cannot access the file anymore.
I need a 3d printer
...so I put together a fleet of them.
Ten months ago, I designed a 3D printable model of the South Dakota-class battleship as a way to refamiliarize myself with the 3D Design software in order to teach my younger brother how to use it. Once I was finished, I was so excited by the prospect of having a 3D printed fleet that I finially went out and bought a 3D printer and got to work.
Now, ten months later I just finished my 150th WWII-era naval miniature design. On top of the 150, there are 5 post-war designs and variants to some of the WWII designs. It is beyond exciting to see my armada grow.
This picture is sorted by date of completion, with variants to the core model placed above the row. A full list of the names and dates of completion can be found on this spreadsheet.
Here is an Imgur album with some additional pictures.
So I’m pretty good at identifying US battleships but I am still unable to tell the New Mexicos Tennessee and Pennsylvanias apart do you have some distinctive features I can look for
For the WW2 era, Pennsylvania has a triangular superstructure with a tripod atop it. Early war she had a second tripod aft. New Mexico had a massive block superstructure like that on the Nelsons. Early war Tennessee had two tubular cage masts, two small funnels and a built up boxy superstructure forward. For the majority of the wat, she looked like a SoDak due to her rebuild.
You can see the war-era ONI recognition guides [here] (http://www.coatneyhistory.com/drawings.htm)
Very nice thank you I could tell that the super was different but it all looked like a mess of wires for me to notice. Even now I don’t think I could pull it off but now that you have pointed it out it will just take a bit of practice
Would you ever consider doing a model of the planned (but sadly cancelled) Battleship Behemoth, the Montana Class? It's, in essence, a more powerful and stronger Iowa Class
Yes it is on my list, along with the original battlecruiser design for the Lexington-class.
Ahh, apologies. I missed it on the list
