Anyone tried Borderlands remaster yet?
For several reasons I can't try it myself unfortunately.
Has anyone tried running the Borderlands 1 remaster that came out a couple of hours ago using proton?
Anyone who had purchased Borderlands 1 before just got a free remastered copy + all dlc.

Works great, but you have to rename BorderlandsGOTY.exe to Launcher.exe (and remove original Launcher.exe) or it'll crash.
Also I had a black screen after intro videos on the first run, but on the second try it was fine, I'm getting around 60 FPS with Ultra settings on my 1050 Ti at 2560x1080.
Confirmed to work, thanks man.
Edit: Got better performance by doing the following:
Or install them through the winetricks interface. Then:
Set an emulated desktop to your monitors native resolution and set it to windows 7 if it isn't already.
I also set glsl to disable in winetricks just because it's a part of my default config. Not sure if it matters.
If anyone else has any more to add let me know, thanks again for the tip op. Saved me a lot of time by noticing it was the launcher.
I recommend grabbing protontricks (available through pip). Simplifies a lot of that. Can use
protontricks -s Borderlandsto find the app ID, then justprotontricks 729040 d3dx9 d3dx9_36 vcrun2005 vcrun2008 vcrun2015.It may just be a wrapper, but it's a wrapper that makes my life frequently easier.
This is also good because using the system Wine installation to run stuff in a Proton prefix isn't a great idea. protontricks uses Proton's Wine instead.
It installs directx and vb in the correct directories if you use the commands mentioned, I fail to see the issue.
Meh I'd rather not deal with another package manager and winetricks does it just fine.
Proton is just wine after all.
Using the instructions u/makisekuritorisu gave, I can get the game to start, but it always freezes in the game menu when I try to change the options. Can you ELI5 me the details of your steps?
Open the terminal and ctrl + shift + v this, replace YOURUSERNAME with your current username:
Once you see the terminal is pointed at that directory ctrl + shift + v this into the same terminal:
Once those finish installing, this should take a couple minutes, paste in this command:
Now paste in this (again ctrl + shift + v, not ctrl + v):
The windows version at the bottom should be windows 7.
In the graphics section unselect the option for the window manager to decorate windows. Then select emulate virtual desktop and put in your native desktop resolution in the two boxes (1920 x 1080 for example.) Hit apply.
Optional:
On the desktop integration tab, under the item box click the dropdown and select desktop. Choose black as the color, it's more pleasing to the eyes imo. Hit OK. Should work fine after that.
Thanks for the reply, maybe I shouldn't have said ELI5, but I didn't know what typing the WINEPREFIX lines would do if I did it in the terminal. I assumed they needed to be added to a config file or something.
As for the first line, that folder doesn't exist for me. The final folder number I have is "552990", is that going to be different for every user?
I should also let you know I'm only using Proton; I don't even have winetricks installed.
Following this I can get the Borderlands splash screen, but in the lower left corner it is showing a little black thumbnail size box with the program name under it and that's it.
The only small hiccup I had doing the setup is that when Winetricks went to install vcrun2015 it failed and said there was another version already installed. Could that cause this?
Can you confirm that you deleted Launcher.exe and renamed BorderlandsGOTY.exe to Launcher.exe?
What OS do you use and what version of that OS? What graphics drivers?
Edit: Try adding "PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%" to the games launch options (no quotes.) Another guy down there had it work for him.
Right click the game in your steam library > properties > set launch options.
I did change the file name of BorderlandsGOTY.exe to Launcher.exe and deleted the original one.
I'm running Kubuntu 18.04.2 LTS and the Kernel is 4.15.0-47-generic. I'm using the NVIDIA 390.116 driver. (which I just confirmed through the terminal is the driver the system is using)
Tried the suggestion of adding the launch option command, thanks for that, but still no joy.
Normally I don't have a problem with getting games to work in Linux, but haven't really tried with Steam games. And it seems more difficult then it should be. I really don't want to have installed Windows just to play a few games.
Cheers, this worked. Seems to run great after this.
my hero. Did you have shit mouse sensitivity at first too?
Yup, but I don't know what fixed it - either changing resolution to my native one, turning off the compositor (compton) or turning off the FPS cap.
Oh I just jacked the vertical and horizontal sensitivities from 40 to 100.
