What is r/TimeToGo?
A place for people who believe that ending their own life is an inalienable right. For one reason or another, the people who come here feel that life is, or may become, unbearable, and they've decided to prepare themselves for a dignified death. This forum exists for those who have no one to share their thoughts and feelings safely, and for those who listen and engage with heartfelt, thoughtful commentary. Empty words and self-satisfying platitudes are not welcome here.
Who can participate?
You must be 18 or older to participate. Underage contributors will be banned. All content must be in English.
Why does r/TimeToGo exist?
We're here to embrace, and to listen to, those who are dealing with the difficult choice of killing themselves.
We're also here for those who sense the choice of life or death is worth examining, whatever their reasons may be, and welcome their attention.
This is a pro-choice space; we believe every person has the right to decide for themselves.
Killing one's self is a stigmatized, taboo subject, yet millions of people have thoughts of doing it and there are very few places where they can speak their minds honestly and safely. We're here because they need to be listened to.
What's the deal with suicide?
Suicide is legal in most countries, yet it's treated like all the other -cides by health providers, law enforcement, and suicide helplines. Unlike those who commit homicide, fratricide, matricide, and regicide, people who kill themselves are not committing a crime. Nonetheless, they are locked into psychiatric wards where they're treated with disdain, with violent physical restraint and bodily abuse, and with body/mind-destroying drugs.
Some people here are entangled in social situations that exploit, enslave, demean and torture them. Others are dealing with physical, mental, or medical health issues that reduce their lives to unbearable, inhumane pain and drudgery. Many have suffered trauma after trauma after trauma at the hands of their parents, their spouses/lovers, criminals, bureaucrats, and doctors. There are many reasons that force people to choose death - but death is never their first choice.
What kind of space is this?
It's a conscientiously moderated and lightly curated forum that asks for mature and respectful behavior. Leave shitposts, sarcasm (/s), karma farming, and attention-seeking behavior at the door, please. We're serious, and not joking (/jk) about this.
We feel an obligation to keep this sub approachable and put contributions on hold if they're written with explosive language. If you've been messaged by the automod, we're hoping you'll make changes to help readers see you as a distinct person... facing your particular challenges and issues and experiencing immediate authentic feelings. Please look at any vulgarity that is tempting to blurt out and replace it.
Why are we so vigilant?
Considering the fact that any conversation, or response, on the subject of suicide may be misjudged as assisting or encouraging violence, this space is strictly moderated to safeguard it. So please, everyone who contributes to this sub, respect our rules as well as other people here.
Previous pro-choice subs have been banned without notice by the platform administrators, and we're not going to let the voices of our contributors get squelched by letting people say or do things that jeopardize this community. So again, get to know our rules well and please respect them diligently.
