This isn't Anxiety

(All criticism is accepted and see more of my work here.)

What is this?

This banging of my heart

This pain that consumes

This fear that inebriates

I CAN'T BREATHE!

Someone, please help me!

This isn't anxiety!

I don't know just please help me!

Falling

Breaking

Shattered

Rampaging

Someone help me!

This mind isn't mine...

if i was a hooker

I can really empathize with the feeling conveyed in this poem. As someone who suffers from anxiety attacks, this feels like something I would definitely be thinking or saying during an attack. Sometimes it feels like there's no way just a bit of anxiety can make you feel the way you do. I like that you used short lines that are straight to the point, it was effective in getting the exasperated message through.. also I hope you are well :)

Thank you for the kind words! Anxiety is the worst and sometimes it's just a simple pang that sends your mind flying. Soon your acting like you ran a marathon while only taking a step! I'm sorry you suffer from the same affliction but we make it through, I hope you're doing well also and I'm glad you could resonate with one of my poems!

I completely agree with that! Definitely is the worst.

I really enjoy reading this. Personally, I keep denouncing my feelings and put it off saying it’s nothing. I start worrying so much and panicking about the stupidest things that happened years ago or what will happen in the future even though no one cares at all. And I don’t put a label on those feelings. I keep convincing myself that I’m fine and that it isn’t anxiety or anything. It’s just me being stupid and a dumbass with no one to tell or have help from. But I finally came in terms with it after it happened so many times. Coming in terms with anxiety. This poem puts it in perspective to me personally.

Yes! Just downplaying your feelings is terrible because if you can't accept it yourself then you can never get help. Worrying about everything all at once and carrying a burden of past, present, and future is so time-consuming. I'm glad you have accepted it and hopefully, you were able to get help!

I really like this. Denial during an anxiety attack is so familiar, and you portrayed it beutifully. I like how you used shorter stanzas to show anxiety.

I like your use of repetition and your use of line length, I felt like these elements combined did a good job at emphasizing the emotion you are trying to capture. However, the last line, "this mind isn't mine" doesn't really deliver any punch imo. The only reference to your body before was "this banging of my heart." Perhaps if you would have had the effects on your body as a theme throughout, it would have felt like it belonged there more, but thats just one of many routes you could have gone. My point is it felt out of place with the structure of the rest of your poem. Similarly with "rampaging" it feels like it doesn't fit the metaphor your previous three lines were part of. The rest of you poem is very direct so It felt unclear what direction you were trying to go with, especially by having no real transition between the only figurative lines in your poem and the rest of your poem.

Thank you so much for the feedback! Your critique is well appreciated and I will keep this in mind for future poems! I wanted to have some elements in here that seemed out of place to further dive the idea that this comes out of nowhere. That this feeling is sudden and inconsistent, misplaced. I will try to expand upon this piece in the future to see if I can add elements to make this poem more fluid!

that is a really deep poem, really shows how anxiety should not be underestimated. I loved the piece.

Love how this makes me feel terrible <3 Actually though, I like how this captures the feelings of a panic attack.

I'll provide some feedback, but feel absolutely free to disregard anything and or everything I say. The line "I CAN'T BREATHE!" is meant to be the most powerful line, but rather than writing in all capitals, I would suggest using your exclamation marks more sparingly, which would add extra meaning. To even further enhance the line, maybe lead up to it with a short line or cutting off a line, capturing how one's psyche is deteriorating during a breakdown. Maybe something like "This fear that inebriates // This ever-present silence // Forever defeating and-- // I can't breathe!" (not saying that this is what you should say, rather writing what I would write if I were to be yourself). The only other suggestion I have for you would be changing the word "Shattered." The rest of the words in your four-word list end in an "-ing." Maybe change it to "Shattering."

Anyways, all just suggestions. Beautiful work, keep it up! May love be with you.
