Dying hair during pregnancy?

Hi,

I haven’t had my hair done since July 2020 and am getting desperate. I do want to get it done but need some reassurance? Has anyone had theirs done? They said their dye does have small trace of ammonia and asked if I’m comfortable with it. I don’t know am I?? Should I not be ?? I didn’t do my hair during my first pregnancy which is why I’m going back and forth on it this time.

I want to do 1 full colour but they’d have to apply it twice because I had balayage done last time and it’s really grown out.

TIA!

I had my hair dyed every 8 weeks my entire pregnancy. My son is perfectly healthy. I also had pedicures with nail polish.

Most products are a lot safer now then they used to be. Just ask your stylist about the dye and if it’s safe. And ask your dr. I’m sure both will say it’s totally fine.

My OB said it was fine as long as I was in a well ventilated area. I waited until I was in 2nd/3rd tri to do it though.

I just got my roots done on Friday at 26 weeks.

Had my hair dyed throughout my last pregnancy and doing it again for this one, no issues.

My OB gave me the go ahead (I am 33 weeks) but I decided against it last min because well, money counts toward everything now, and I would have felt guilty. Not shaming anyone who decides!

That’s fair! It is so pricy at the salon! My balayage is usually around $200 including trim

I’ve been doing mine at home regularly. I always do it in a well ventilated area, and I’ve been using Clairol Natural Instincts box dye because it’s lower in chemicals.

There was another article in a medical journal my husband gets but we have since long recycled the magazine and I can’t find it online.

If your the kind of person who is very cautious or if you would question if you were making the right decision maybe it is best for your own peace of mind to not do it.....I had a horrific hair dye job then got pregnant 1 month later....lol had ugly hair for 1 year plus then got it dyed several months PP. I know lots of people who had done it but I’m too much of a worrier/health freak/research junkie to do it myself.

I might just get a cut and keep growing it out until it’s all my natural hair. That was my other thought but idk if I have the patience for it lol

My OB said to wait until after the first trimester but then it’s fine!

I just had my hair dyed. My stylist did use a color that was more “gentle” than what she typically uses. She told me she will always do whatever the client is comfortable with and has clients who do full bleaches and some who stop dying completely.

I just had my first visit to an salon that uses organic and non-toxic hair color. The color has no: Ammonia, Ppd's, Resoricnol, Parabens, Phthalates, Triclosan, Silicones, Propylene Glycol, PEGs, Sulfate Surfactants, Synthetic Colors, Synthetic Fragrance. I was a bit worried about the quality of the outcome but it’s literally the best color I’ve ever had. The salon had zero fumes too, it was awesome! I’d definitely check into a salon near you with this option.

I have and will continue to get my hair dyed/bleached! From what I’ve read it is safe. My sister is my hair stylist and would never leave anything on my head that could harm me or baby.

Gotta keep up with my balayage. I will probably get my hair done three more times during my pregnancy. (Due in August)

When in august ? I’m due in august also! That’s wonderful (and glad to hear) my balayage is a mess right now lol

August 15th! I’m actually getting my hair done Wednesday, I can’t stand when it grows out too much. 😂

My ob said it was totally fine to bleach or dye as long as it was well ventilated. I had blue hair before I was pregnant, so I let it fade as much as I could on its own before I really had to bleach the rest out. I bleached it at home and then redyed close to my natural color to have something with way less maintenance. No issues here!
