Hell isn't frozen over, and you don't have to die to go.

I know, because I've been there.

It's off Michigan Road in a strip mall

where 1,271 humanities grads

get paid $36,117 a year

to sit in silence

and grade a single standardized test question,

incorrectly, >!for eternity!<.

Hell is also a meat processing facility in Logansport.

This really intrigues me. I don’t know if this is based off your actual experience, but the use of such exact numbers really makes it seem like it is. Either way, it really makes me curious.

Living this a lot. Especially the concept and specificness.

This poem is very darkly funny for me. The last unexpected line adds to the comedic tone, like a punchline as well as the over?-specific numbers you provided. I don't know if you intended any supernatural imagery or if you used the term "hell" only on conceptual basis, but the poem gave me some "devil walks among us and he's wearing a suit" kind of vibes. Anyways, I love the detailed picture you managed to paint. Great work!

Oh, hi there; didn't see you! You've reached r/OCPoetry. Dig this. It’s difficult to pull off being overt in details without coming off as exclusive, and you get past that so clearly. This is a great, felt piece

This is interesting, but I think you missed a few opportunities here. We get that you're saying this is an absolute terrible "job" to have, and though it's implied you don't really express why that is. This would have been a great time to utilize some repetition for emphasis (over and over and OVER, for eternity) (bad example but yea). Also your stats - maybe you should have thrown in some numbers for the amount of tests, which would have probably had a bigger wow factor? The number of questions per test, on x amount of tests, is xxxxx amount of eternity questions. lol Really hoping you never worked at a meat processing center, I hope thats tacked on at the end because we all just know that's terrible.

It's also on Michigan Road, if you drive far enough.

Yes, I think I could work on this some. I would love to drive home the fact that you are grading an endless stream of high school essay answers to the same exact question >!for eternity!<. And you have to grade them based on some flawed external rubric rather than anything that might reasonably be construed as your own informed judgement.

Your spoilers crack me up!

No, don't work on it, it's good imo as it is, the casual concision makes it.

I'm a teacher who has administered this test a few times. It is truly miserable

I really like the structure and progression of information in this poem. I hope you don’t mind, but I’ve used this model to inspire my own poem that I’ve just posed on here.
