[1580] Pulp (different one)

Been gone a while; sorry I haven't been making more critiques. But I have some left from late summer / early fall, and I did one today!

This is a newer story - I started it a year or so ago and decided to come back to it. I had another story posted here called "Pulp" but it's completely unrelated.

The asterisks after paragraphs mean that it will be a new page/chapter. It's the start of a novel I'm trying to finish about a woman whose mother was a horror novelist before being murdered when the MC was 10. MC has a twin brother, who in a later chapter will go missing under disturbing circumstances.

Line edits are welcome, of course, but I really want to know general thoughts about:

  1. Is this compelling? Do you want to read more?
  2. How is the characterization? I'm not asking if people LIKE Ramona as a person; she's inherently unlikeable. But does she feel real?
  3. Any suggestions for how to better incorporate the news bits?
  4. Do you feel like information is missing? The next chapter will include interactions with her brother and information about what happened to them after their mother died, but does this feel like a solid start, or is it full of holes?
  5. How do you feel about the present tense? The parts from the mother's perspective are past tense; the present story will be told in present tense.

And any general feedback. Please and thank you. I'm very anxious about this, but I will surely take all critiques with grace (at least, outwardly):

Here's the Google doc.
