Why is the “Audible hopes you have enjoyed this program” message delivered in what sounds like tape cassette sound quality?

because people like it and we don't want them to change it.
It was recorded like 25 years ago
It's a pretty old recording. There is a story that goes with the guy whose voice it is but all I remember is that I believe he passed away a few years ago. Its symbolic to audible though so I doubt they'll modernize it.
I figured there had to be some story there.
That is basically their audio version of their signature, a very iconic recording.
a signature.. like the windows startup or any other familiar "tones"
people like it.
it's not like they're "stuck" with the old one because they need to wait for technology to catch up.
I eagerly anticipate hearing this brief, yet somehow comforting, familiar recording when a book ends and I keep listening to titles until I hear it.
I never want it to change.
Maybe someday they can offer personalized signoffs and, though I can't imagine why you'd want to, the option to mute it. Or different voices, like on Waze. That's fun. I like hearing directions to familiar places in foreign languages while I drive sometimes.
I used a different platform for a while and it felt so… inconclusive to get to the end and not hear that.
Yeah, if I listen to something on Libby, the book jjust... ends. No fanfare. So unfulfilling.
I can only imagine! So not satisfying. But not exactly dissatisfying. Just an empty blankness where once had followed a familiar and expected conclusion. It's how I feel when I watch a train go by and there's no caboose at the end. Where did they all go? The caboose-es? caboom? caboodle? A onde eles foram?
Right, no closure.
I think the correct word is cabeese.
Cool! So like an E–O Ablaut, like, goose - geese or tooth - teeth? I like it

I dont know but I hope they never change it
I always respond, "Thank you Audible, I did." In various shades of enthusiasm. I miss it when I listen to library books.
Me too! 😂
I love it! I’d be devastated if they changed it.
At the end of Piranesi an English dude says it at the end, it fucked with my head a bit lol.
Some of my UK audiobooks have something different, and I miss him. I didn’t know he passed away.
If I could get a sound tattooed on my body .....
Talk about wasting a wish, you could have gone with a billion dollars but instead you went with sound tattoos.
Wish granted, enjoy.
It's my favorite part. It's like a feeling of accomplishment.
The audible sandwich, I call it.
This, is Audible.
Audible hopes you've enjoyed this program.
I love it.
The "This, is Audible" has included newer voices including from employees with particularly soulful voices around the world. I think they appear most on each region's Original titles that Audible commission themselves
I've started listening to books I check out via my library app and that message is not there and I miss it immensely
The German version is higher quality but not as iconic
Not gonna lie though, sometimes I forget about it and since there is usually a pause between the credits and that recording someone's I jump I get so startled when it plays 😅
Bro. I love that shit. The narrator that says the line died not too long ago. I hope they never remove it 😤
I listened to something recently where it was a female voice, and the recording sounded newish.
Also let’s you know when the pirated book was pulled from audible.
It was recorded when the company started, and it holds some nostalgia for us long-timers, especially since the guy who recorded it died recently.
I’ve had an account pretty much since the beginning of audible. I will riot in the streets if they ever take that away from us!!!!
Although, I just had this thought - this generation doesn’t have the “Sit BooBoo Sit” type of ending to every show, do they? So I guess I can see how it’s odd. Older generations expect to hear some type of familiar whatever this is called.
I think it was Ubu.
Brooklyn Nine Nine has the “Not a doctor” at the end of the credits.
Good dog.
Ubu is correct.
Or the "bad robot arg" at the end of Buffy
Oh yeah I think it was!
It was definitely "Ubu". And my entire life I thought it was "Booboo" until like 10 years ago when I noticed that it said Ubu Productions or whatever on screen. Lol.
They did. Very briefly. And there where riots. They quickly changed it back.
Did they fix the books that didn't have it?
If I remember. Yes
I don’t remember that and I’m glad!
I still remember the "Bad Robot!" outro when watching through Lost.
Alias :)
FREMULON
I'd call it an outro, but that's just me.
Or the shhh at the end of the Simpsons. That hits my nostalgia hard.

Pandemic time doesn't accumulate normally. It's either zero or double. In this case, it's zero.
Exactly, that was only last yea....
Oh.
I left high school in the early 90's which was about 10 - 15 years ago......
Well, I was born in the seventies, which I'm pretty sure was about 30-odd years ago, so you math checks out!
The book isn't over until I hear this. There was one book that didn't have it and it still feels like whatever book that was want complete. I hope I never experience such nonsense again.
Yea I hope they don't change that.
It used to be so annoying in the days when I transferred to CD to listen in the car, because the start and end messages used to push the content over to another disk.
