Internet has been cutting out a lot lately
Hello,
We've had xfinity internet at our house for at least a year, with no issues. I use an Arris Surfboard router with wifi, and it is on the xfinity approved devices list. Suddenly this past couple of weeks, the internet connection has been randomly dropping throughout the day. It isn't the wifi--our devices all still show strong wifi signals to the router--but the router itself has "no Internet connection." I've checked all the coax cables and everything's as tight as it has been all year. I don't know if there have been outages around here or what it could be, but it is becoming unworkable.
Thanks!
Edit for curious people with similar issues. One of the mods checked something in their system, and it says my cable is showing "inside ingress," which could be due to unterminated cables, faulty connections, etc. They're going to have someone come and check it out tomorrow. This could make sense because, the people we bought the house from must've had like 4 cable TVs--the coax coming out of the ground goes into a little splitter, and then 4 super long cables that are stapled around the outside of the house and going into different rooms. We ONLY use the one cable that plugs into our modem (no old-school cable tv here), but I've left those other cables dangling around, apparently leaking signal out into the universe. (I've been, er, buzy/lazy). So, hopefully getting rid of that splitter will fix things.
EDIT again -- A tech came out and did some things, and it's been a few days and things are going smoothly! (fingers crossed, knock on wood.) He removed a filter (an actual hunk of metal) from somewhere down near the street, where the cable comes from the main pipe towards our house. He said that was probably put in there once upon a time to block certain upstream channels. Then, he removed our splitter, rewired it so all the other dangly cables weren't there, and then rewired the actual piece of coax going into our modem (just the little screw-on portion -- not sure why, maybe it just fit better). Anyway... they didn't charge me anything and it's working!
