While I commend someone's passion in attempting to scrape together information to provide to curious players, I fear that this article may be inaccurate and missing vital info.

Everyone should note that this is not only missing very important details and information, its also utilizing placeholder data and values that were never intended for the public. Placeholders that will be changed.

So while there are some details that are correct here and will remain so (like how merits are earned or how blanks are used), the missing information alone makes me suggest to everyone to just sit tight and wait for more details from the team officially - which is hopefully soon :)

Thanks for the clarification!

Very curious to see how this plays out. Game looks great and I love Unknown Worlds but the current state of monetization in f2p seems too lucrative to milk at least a little bit.

Where is this information from? But either way:

Booster packs will only include units. In the case of duplicates, you get a third currency, called Merits. Merits can be used to upgrade already owned units visually (rarity) and to craft specific units you want.

This seems like a huge, huge mistake. Getting duplicates in a cosmetic lootbox is frustrating enough, but if I'm paying money - or even just spending Blanks - to get actual playable Units, I should never be getting duplicates. Remove the Units I have from the possible outcomes of the box.

Or better yet, let me just buy the unit I want for fucks sake. Nobody would play Warhammer if you had to buy a blind box with a random Unit inside.

I had a ton of fun playing this weekend, but this game will not survive if the monetization is not friendly enough.

If you get duplicates they will turn into merits wich allow you to buy the unit you want.

I guess ultimately it all hinges on how easy it is to get Blanks / how expensive a box costs.

I assume it'll be like Hearthstone where you can Disenchant a card for like a quarter of the cost to make a card of equal rarity.

If I am not mistaken one of the devs in the discord said, that they will be quite generous and that it will be relatively easy to get all units (at least in common rarity). If you want them all in higher rarity (which has absolutely no impact on gameplay) it will be way harder.

I feel like this game will either live or die on this point.

When the game was first announced, r/games and every other sub that had the trailer posted to had many many comments along the lines of, "Lootboxes for Units? Hard pass"

I'm really afraid that is going to sink the game. Even if it proves to be a friendly enough mechanic where it's not hard to earn Blanks/Merits, many people will dismiss the game before even hearing, "Hey it's not as shitty as grinding Gold in Hearthstone".

That's good. I don't want it to be like Hearthstone where half your collection barely makes a legendary lol

That is something I am interested to know too.

Also to me the links in the article to the progression system and Season track are way more interesting ;-)

Loot Boxes? So the game will not be released in Belgium?

1
ralopdOP•

That is correct. (And already the case, the steam store listing should not be available in Belgium.)

Monetization will be this games ultimate hurdle for me and I'm sure many others. If the barrier of entry is too high , plus pay to win mechanics, some of us may never give the game the chance.

$20-30 felt fair to me .

But in game currency, random loot boxes is a gaming mechanic I try to stay away from.

Sell me preset boosters/ teams , Or allow me to buy the units I want directly.

More than willing to pay for free to play games like league of legends and Fortnite.

But this game will start with a very niche audience to begin with and risk alienating fans with multi currency expansion.

I hate free to play. I don't like being pressured to constantly buy stuff. I don't mind an up front cost and seasonal costs. Otherwise I just want to buy my ticket and enjoy the ride.

So far it sounds like that this will be possible in the Moonbreaker. (Except for cosmetics.)

2

So by "that will be possible" do you mean that there will be options in how we pay?
