In a previous thread, there were some... individuals, stating that the flash signature of the Flow 556K, as depicted in the video from Sage Dynamics, was unacceptable. I hadn't seen this video from PEW Science posted here, so I thought I would do the honors.

Impressive!!

I have a 556ti with the flash cap. My flash signature looks just like this. Almost nothing.

I wonder if the HX QD 556 is the same. Thinking about getting one as my first suppressor.

The 556ti I mentioned in my post is the HX QD titanium 556 can with flash cap.

I have the HX QD 762ti and the 556ti with flash cap. The flash reduction is significant. My HXQD 556ti had the same flash signature as the can in the video

Just make sure the one you get has the flash cap.

The 556ti is without question my favorite 556 gas gun can.

I originally wanted the 556Ti but someone told me they’re not serviceable, so I’m a little nervous about getting an end cap strike on my first suppressor and being screwed lol

1st, If you get an end cap strike, they will rebuild your can, no big deal. 2nd, if you check your alignment with a rod, you will never have a strike.

I have 15 or so cans for many platforms. I always check alignment and have never had a strike over 20 years suppressed sbooting on all kinds of guns.

Don't stress. Plus, it's such a low pressure, low signature can that causes zero issues on the host that it's worth it.

I have that same can in jail so I’m glad to hear that.

How does it do with temperature compared to a Mini2?

Damn that’s super effective, thanks for sharing.

This shows is how much of an influence barrel length and ammunition can have on the flash performance of a suppressor. The Sage video was a realistic worst case (10.5, untuned, unknown 5.56 range ammo) with a moderate cadence of fire (3-5 rounds strings of fire with pauses in between).

The FLOW 556K does incredibly well for its size, but does give up flash hiding performance compared to some conventional suppressors.

its mainly ammo(powder) based then barrel length to determine flash

KeyCommission2OP•

An untuned gas system will typically increase the amount of gas cycling the action, and thus decrease the amount of gas being sent forward. So an untuned system would aid in flash mitigation, rather than add to it, if it did anything.

An extra inch of barrel does make a difference, but it wouldn't take the flash from a moderate fireball every 5 rounds or so, to almost nothing.

I think the real difference, is the weapon and suppressor in the Sage video were already piping hot from sustained shooting. An assertion founded on the fact that the can was already smoking when the night shots began.

556k or RC2? Which is better??

1
bigtree17•

556k fasho

misternibbler•

I recently asked that exact question recently here. Got some good response and discussion. I ended up buying the HUXWRX flash hider (can is still out of stock from my preferred dealer) to go with the FLOW. The mounting system is simpler and I will probably buy a full size FLOW 556 when they come out with it.

2
KeyCommission2OP•

I'd go with the 556K.

The RC2 is a great choice if flash suppression under sustained and heavy fire is important. But it's no longer the best overall choice for the typical civilian shooter.

Rc2 everytime.

HUXWRX has a 556K (old can) and the newer one is the FLOW556K. Similar naming so it’s confusing. Just make sure you get the new FLOW version.

Apple or orange? Which is better?

Looking forward to quantitative data on flash signature from Pew on as many rifle cans as possible. Preferably some slow motion footage and a few strings of full auto fire to heat up the cans.

Well sir, you have sold me on the 556k from huxwrx

Thinking this will be amazing on my 13.9, can’t wait to get it out of jail.

Holy shit that’s way better than I expected
