how much do you get paid?

as a fellow retail slave who makes $15.50/hr in TX, I'm wondering how much everyone else makes to show up to hell every day

I got a 48 cent raise after 5. Maybe we’ll all get a dollar raise after 15 or 20 years.

Damn you too huh? They tell you oh you're going to get a significant raise and then it's like a few cents I can totally pay my bills with that much. 😑

Previously I was making 12 an hr for a full time management position for a small brand that’s famous for their denim. I was at the bottom of the management totem poll and now I’ve upgraded to a bigger company with 19 an hr (they actually offered me more like 25 an hr because of experience but I declined) . Still at the bottom but my growth here is guaranteed compared to last job. So I will reach bigger bills in no time. Also I’m from Texas! So I’m glad someone isn’t suffering with that minimum wage bs 😊

fellow texan, what made you decline the 25/hr?

I have a weird belief about how everything I do is karmic and comes back to me in some way. So for example I could get more money which is cool but I would more than likely spend the living hell out of it or all of a sudden the IRS wants 85,000 dollars from me. Or my car all of a sudden starts tweaking and having issues. I also think it’s because I was raised with a “work for it” mentality. Some say I was dumb which haha y e s. But I’m pretty humble and happy where I am now I’m extremely thankful to even have my opportunity so giving more to me would be too much for me. Idk…. I know it’s dumb I know 🥲

Yeah you really shouldn’t worry about those things and just chase the money, more money is never not worth it if you have a good head on your shoulders.

That's not great advice. Don't turn down a job based on insecurities or superstition.

Dont blindly chase money. Money has a tendency to knock the head right off your shoulders.

Why would you look at it as a bad thing instead of saying 'Wow this good thing came into my path'? And why would you consider your 'Work for it' mentality to work the same amount for less money? Due to your experience which you developed through work, someone offered you like a 50%+ compensation increase.

I am extremely thankful that I even have the opportunity to even get a 2 dollar increase. I also fully believe in my ability to get to that 25 when I will,I have time Im not rushing. Like I’ve mentioned before-where I’m at now I’ll be able to grow at an even faster pace position wise because I’ve moved. Tbh I will get to that 25 within a span of a year because of my personal performance.

I don't care much about money but I don't get it. If you were afraid the extra money would hurt, you could have donated it to your favorite charity. Besides, moves like your contribute to lowering everyone's wages.

Moves like mine? Getting a better paying position contributes to lowering everyone wages?….if you don’t mind explaining? Because usually it’s because companies for whatever reason REFUSE to pay their workers for higher wages because of budgeting. But if there’s an actual reason that you know of please explain because I’d love to know it! Also charity is a nice idea I didn’t think of that, thank you!

i understand. you may feel like there’s a negative trade off for that higher pay because of anxiety. if you ever need more money though, it seems you’re in a place where you could ask for more, and you should if it’s necessary. may be karma getting your back for some previous good you’ve done.

I get paid 18 an hour to be a hostess and a complete bitch to annoying drunk tourist patrons (Music city Nashville) and it’s a part time position and sometimes I get tipped to put ppl at tables they request last min last time I got a $200 tip. But the downside is you have to deal with lots of drunk POS 🤷‍♀️ but it’s not a bad job overall.

I make $15/hour in Texas and I’m not the store manager, or even assistant manager but I am management. I’ve been with the company (and the same store at that) for going on seven years.

All in all though, I like the company I work for and it’s been a good 6+ years for the most part.
