Idk what “athletic slim” means, but it looks very uncomfortable

7
TheOrganicCircuit•

So I bought 3 pairs of jeans from Madewell on Black Friday: Slim Jeans, Athletic Slim, and Relaxed Taper. I wear 35/30 or 35/32. All three pairs fit great and I could hardly notice a sizing difference between any of them. I've really only worn 1 pair a handful of times since they arrived (The Athletic Slims), but they fit me perfectly, and I have above average sized thighs and calves. They are much roomier than the Levi's slims (511s) enough so that I will probably never buy another pair of Levis again.

_captaincoolOP•

Thank you for the input! I also regularly train legs and typically wear 33/30. Are the athletic slim still slim/skinny fit?

I usually go for an athletic taper, and avoid anything skinny fit bc of my similarly thiccđź’¦ proportions. This might be madewell branding but your description sounds like an athletic taper v athletic slim/skinny

1†
Randy6789•

I wear a 33/30 as well. Their athletic slim is definitely still slim, just slightly roomier in the butt and thighs. It's my go-to fit for Madewell as yet another guy in this thread with thicc thighs and butt

6
notenoughcharact•

I size up one from j crew to madewell if that helps.

2
CaptTrit•

My thighs are so big I cannot fit into even any Levi's jeans (not even their athletic cuts)

I can only wear lucky brand, but only barely (their athletic line look like skinnies on me).

Thanks for comparing it to Levi's, made it an easy pass for me.

Qbeck•

I exclusively wear athletic slim from them, i don’t wear “slim” from any other company. I think it’s poorly named. It’s got some of that “comfort stretch” stuff, i love it. I’m 185 6,2 and i wear a 32x34

5
you_always_do•

Is it slimmer than regular slim?

1
Qbeck•

I'm not sure, but I don't think so - or the stretchiness offsets it, if that makes sense.

2
Pls_add_more_reverb•

Athletic slim has smaller leg holes and more taper below inseam then regular slim

4
you_always_do•

So is it more slim than regular slim?

1
Pls_add_more_reverb•

Yes

1
throwawaybay92•

relaxed vintage straight is good for those with big thighs and want a relaxed fit. I have a 32” waist with upperish thigh of 25.5”.

1
retirement_savings•

I tried the athletic slim in store the other day and they did not fit me. I wear a 33/34 and the thighs and ass were way too tight. Sizing up just made the waist loose. I have ~25 inch thighs, so bigger than average but not insane.

1
Platypus_Anxious•

My size is 28, I bought their skinny jean, and I went up a size to 29. I finally got to try them on, they're tighter than my regular 28 jeans.

Madewell is dropping sale after sale, damn. I already have everything I wanted from them lmao

29
GeneralGracious•

What do you recommend?

9
S_quints•

I’ve got bigger thighs and their relaxed tapered fit jeans fit me perfect. Their T shirts are also pretty solid

10
utspg1980•

Have you by chance tried Gap athletic tapered? How do they compare?

3
godVishnu•

How do compare to BR traveller tapered slim jeans? They have stretch and it's good for cyclist quads

1
Yogibearasaurus•

Love my jeans and crewnecks from them! Also picked up this overcoat during BF and it’s a very quality item.

What stack?

5
TheOrganicCircuit•

Lol, I already check over there but couldn't find anything.

Vik3628•

I stg I'm not a shill but some people are talking about madewell like its made of paper mache. I beat the shit out of my jeans that I got from them and they only look better. Highly recommend for anything denim. I've only bought one shirt from them and the fit was kinda weird with the long sleeves being very wide for my arms, but might work for some people.

21
ToomeyTime•

On the flip side, I just blew out mine in less than a year. Only washed a few times, always air dried, etc. Just can't recommend them after that experience.

I did email support and they are allowing me to return them for a gift card, but I'll get jeans somewhere else after this. Don't need another hole at work lol

1
_captaincoolOP•

Also they have jeans on sale for $50.00

Overall quality of madewell?

6
dimola1313•

The cableknit fishermen sweater and the rolled mock neck sweater sweater I got today and both were very nice, the cable knit was woven tighter than I expected can’t really see through which is nice, also got the boiled wool chore jacket, it’s okay not anything crazy I wouldn’t pay full price for it though, think I paid 90 on the 60% off and even that’s a little much imo

15
_captaincoolOP•

Supposedly they’re known for having high quality basics. Their brand is basically things that are made well. I’ve bought a pair of gloves during Black Friday and they’re good quality; no loose stitches, consistent sizing, etc

3
werddoe•

I have their jeans, shirts, sweaters, and jackets. All pretty awesome quality for the price. The only issues I’ve had is some of the t-shirts are starting to get hard now that I’ve had them for a while and washed them a bunch. I hang dry everything, but I have accidentally dried some of their stuff and it shrunk a lot as well.

Those are minor complaints for me though. Like half my wardrobe is from there now.

3
Your-Uncles-Mustache•

Got a pair of jeans from them earlier in the year. Heavy duty-zero stretch type, they feel indestructible.

Just recently ordered their corduroy button up which I love, have only worn it once but the quality feels solid, no complaints.

clubmasterhendricks•

What we recommending for Chino's boys???

3
qning•

Well, Chino really likes jeans, so I’d guess that Chino’s boys like jeans too. But you could go with a gift card to be safe.

5
MaxTheTzar•

Ha! Shit on them all you want but this just helped me get gifts for 3 loved ones. This is the earliest I've ever been done with Xmas shopping. Thanks OP

How are their tees? Been eyeing some of them.

1
AaronGOATdon•

So nice

2
verbrannte_erde•

quality is nice, though most of them have a loose fit. I have two of the allday tees and they're both a bit large even though they're labelled slim fit. Not a bad thing but something to keep in mind. I bought a tee from them two years ago and it's a lot slimmer.

1
bobby_si•

Agreed. I have wider shoulders from lifting and had to get an XL but the body is too boxy. Nice shirt but it’s just an around the house shirt cause I don’t like the fit.

2
verbrannte_erde•

same, I also wear XL but find the fit is weird on their allday tees. the relaxed tees are a bit better since it looks more intentional and they're also heavier weight

2
simivacant•

Anyone tried the sneakers? How's the quality and comfort?

1
broken1384•

Are Madewell clothes in fact made well?

1
Dear_Ad4079•

No. I love the clothes but they were all unwearable after a few times. Paper thin and stain too easily.

you_always_do•

Is athletic slim more slim than their regular slim?

1
_captaincoolOP•

Athletic slim has more space in the thighs and butt to accommodate the thicc fellas. Regular slim is for the skinny fellas and those who skip leg day

3
hashward•

Heard they aren’t madewell
