I purchased the X390 Yoga a few days ago with an i7-8565u, 16GB of RAM, and 512gb of storage and I'm wondering if anyone here has used it- or a similarly specced Thinkpad- with an eGPU enclosure like the Akitio Node or the Sonnet Breakaway Box. How is the experience? How would having USB ports or a second Thunderbolt port on the enclosure affect performance, especially with a 2 lane Thunderbolt 3 port? Is it possible to use the iGPU for the internal display and the eGPU for an external monitor?
EDIT: My desktop has an i7-6700 in it, 16GB of RAM, and a MSI GAMING GTX 1070. I plan to use the 1070, but am unsure if the potential performance hit that I get from moving to the Whiskey Lake i7 is
I'm heading off to college and I'm debating between bringing a desktop and a laptop or a laptop with an egpu setup. The desktop I have at home has the following cpu, ram, and gpu:
- i7-6700
- 16GB DDR4 2133MHz RAM
- MSI GAMING GTX 1070
The laptop I have ordered is a Thinkpad X390 Yoga, which only has a 2 lane Thunderbolt 3 port. The cpu and ram of the Yoga are as follows:
- i7-8565u
- 16GB DDR4 2400MHz RAM
The main reason why I'm looking at an eGPU setup is portability. Since I won't live too far away from home, a one hour drive, I'll be visiting home quite a bit and bringing an eGPU is better than my desktop.
If I go the eGPU route, I will simply take the 1070 from my rig and put it in
Is it possible to have a passthough session that lasts for longer than five minutes? I would love to have the option for a session that doesn't have a time limit.
In the new DP3 for Android Q, there is a force-dark developer flag that can be toggled on. This forces a dark mode on all apps. Some aren't affected because dark mode is properly implemented and completed, but in some apps, there are small quirks and issues. In Boost, when force-dark is on, quotes are completely white, which merges with the white text on the amoled black theme, making it a blank rectangle.
With the Valve Index controllers on the horizon, more and more games (Namely Boneworks and the rumored Valve titles) will probably start using Skeletal Input in some fashion down the line, but WMR controllers are the only PCVR controllers that don't support it. The Vive wands support it, the Touch controllers support it, and the Index controllers support it. It's been almost a year since SteamVR Skeletal Input came out- where is the support?
Running into this odd issue with motion reprojection. When setting it to "auto" in the json file, SteamVR launches but crashes with error code 301. It can't be a GPU incompatibility issue since I am running on a GTX 1070. I am however running on a slow ring Windows Insider build, 17754.1 specifically. What's odd though is that reprojection only breaks when on auto. Motionvector still works. Anyone else getting this same issue?
EDIT: Insider build 17763.1 seems to work perfectly. I'll have to do more testing to be sure though.
If you have issues with the joysticks not working, head to http://127.0.0.1:8998/dashboard/controllerbinding.html or the in-game editor when it works and while running the affected game, edit the profile and add the joystick input by pressing the plus by Joystick, selecting Joystick in the menu, and making sure it is the appropriate "____ second trackpad/thumbstick value" option (____ being left or right). It will autosave the binding and it should work.
EDIT: Haptics on the left controller are also redirected to the right controller. Click edit haptics and redirect the left controller haptics to the left controller.
Here is a guide to replace your SteamVR controller models with any model you want.
Requirements:
-
The models you want that are SteamVR ready. In this example, the hand models used by u/Cyl0n_Surf3r for Skyrim VR here will be used.
-
The Batch File. Extract this anywhere and follow the Batch Steps.
Batch Steps
-
Extract the zip file from the link for the batch file above anywhere. This has only been tested on the desktop, so if issues arise, try moving the folder there.
-
Drop the files for the controller models into their respective folders- con
As the title states, how feasible would it be to develop a WMR equivalent of Oculus Dash? Given how Dash could do this, would a WMR equivalent work well at all considering how the task would likely be performed by the OS itself?
