I’ve never worked in a job where I or anyone else did nearly this much, but I’ve heard of other organizations both B2B and B2C where this is normal and expected.
For those of you who do keep these numbers up, how do you get through it and manage your time?
Augustus the Strong of Poland and Murad IV of the Ottoman Empire have superhuman feats attested to them. It's reported that Augustus could beat two strong courtiers with one finger at tug of war and bend horseshoes with his bare hands, while Murad wielded a 110 pound sword that's still on display in Istanbul.
How is this possible before steroids? Both were extremely fruitful so pituitary gland abnormality is a possibility, but was there ever any speculation that Augustus and Murad were faking their stunts? Or that these tales are apocryphal?
Recently stumbled upon an excellent paper by Belschak, Verberke and Bagozzi (2008) talking about SCA (Sales Call Anxiety - not reluctance). After 10 years in sales and management I still get the butterflies sometimes. The article is called Coping with sales call anxiety: The role of sale perseverance and task concentration strategies. It's behind a paywall so I'll summarize.
The authors statistically test 2 approaches to solving SCA: Task focus (ignoring thoughts, focusing on the dial and the next move) and curiously, "sales perseverance", or persistence in the call ("closing" and objection handling, keeping the prospect on the phone as long as possible).
The authors find that Task focus i

Almost overnight, they've grown to be the most viewed Mandarin language channels on youtube, with consistent 50-200k hits per video, and videos being released by most of these channels on an almost daily basis. Most of the viewers according to the comments are mainland Chinese or overseas students, with some Taiwane
My company is expanding our business development team and there was a discussion among our team today about training. The most contentious point was over mindset on a call. Some AEs think you need to always expect success when you make cold calls and create a placebo effect, while others think you need to expect failure or VM because it happens 98% of the time anyway, otherwise you just set yourself up for disappointment. The first group thinks this creates a self fulfilling prophecy of failure.
Myself, I’ve been in sales and management almost a decade and always expected no and that yesses were unicorns, but our business is about unicorns. But then again, I never once had the highest booki
When I was eating dumplings in a Chinese restaurant, some guy walked in and talked to me.
“I don’t want no money, my dads in the hospital and I’m hungry and want food and I just want something to eat, and I don’t want to be in the hospital again”
I wasn’t that hungry anyway so I said “yeah sure you can have these dumplings, I’ll just have two of them”
He was visibly offended.
“I don’t eat no dumplings. Only chicken and rice and meat”
Being "woke" seems to be a celebrated characteristic for most young people. In my own experience, however, I find it gives you imaginary problems and insecurities.
I'm a first generation Chinese immigrant who came to the US when I was 20. I spent the next couple years studying and working, and built a good career for myself. I started reading about politics after becoming a citizen, and was puzzled by the conspiratorial beliefs of many minorities on the left. I started talking to my coworkers about this, and many of my minority coworkers thought there was some subconscious racism against us and that everything was about race. I remember one second generation Asian guy telling me that Asians
Getting cold calls is convenient as hell.
I didn’t realize this until I took a new job when my direct line is on zoom, and moved into the suburbs from Manhattan. I get way more calls at work and at home now, and in all my years of selling never understood the value of that.
I don’t have to do jack shit. CRM, leads, VoIP, home security, TV, Internet, pool cleaning, and groundskeeping come to me. I don’t need to install anything, drive anywhere, or call anyone.
Selling is a service in itself. I never thought about how by calling, I might be doing a favor to the people who might have seen the value in what I was selling, but were too busy to reach out. If a company wants my money, why should
I just finished watching Bruce Khan’s Revenger and was really impressed. The last fight scene was probably the only realistic depiction of BJJ I’ve ever seen on screen (all the others I’ve seen have people escaping rear naked chokes like it’s nothing). For most of the movie Bruce shows off his insane kicks which aren’t that realistic, but in the last fight the two guys have great distance control and timing, and break off every couple seconds instead of just pounding at each other for minutes.
Anyone have other recommendations for realistic fight movies?
