Don’t Let Reddit Kill 3rd Party Apps!
What’s going on?
A recent Reddit policy change threatens to kill many beloved third-party mobile apps, making a great many quality-of-life features not seen in the official mobile app permanently inaccessible to users.
On May 31, 2023, Reddit announced they were raising the price to make calls to their API from being free to a level that will kill every third party app on Reddit, from Apollo to Reddit is Fun to Narwhal to BaconReader.
Even if you’re not a mobile user and don’t use any of those apps, this is a step toward killing other ways of customizing Reddit, such as Reddit Enhancement Suite or the use of the old.reddit.com desktop interface .

We've been approached about hosting an AMA (Ask Me Anything) here at r/AskPhotography.
Would you like to see AMA's here in AskPhotography or not?
Asking for feedback on images is allowed in AskPhotography.
r/photocritique also exists specifically for this purpose.
If you prefer the type of response you get to your post in one reddit over another feel free to continue using the /r/ that's working for you.
Users who are unhappy with critique type posts in r/askphotography are asked to refrain from engaging with these posts. There are plenty of other photography reddits that adhere to stricter guidelines over what can and cant be posted and your participation in those reddits is welcomed.
r/photography has a weekly official questions thread. r/photocritique is geared towards reviewing other photographers works. r/photos is

Admin, it would be awesome to have some tooling to help us deal with report abuse. I specifically have rules stating use of the report functionality to communicate with the mod team is against the rules but I have no way to enforce this rule.
Reporting reports to admin seems to be a black hole. How can we stamp this out.
Thank you r/askphotography community for following our newly established rules.
I think I owe you all a little clarification on why I'm asking users not to spam the report button.
Many subs, including this one, use AutoMod to help prevent spam from making its way onto our sub. When you report legitimate spam you're helping to keep this sub clean.
After a certain threshold is reached spam posts are automatically removed.
The problem then, as you've probably already surmised, is when users start to spam the report button for personal gain they interfere with this process which in turn requires the mod team to set higher and higher limits on reports before auto removal.

Please keep the discussion civil. Your opinions and lighthearted banter are fine, but don't let it get personal or excessive. Follow Reddiquette when voting and posting. - Excessive trolling and/or harassment

If the post is spam, report it. If the post is not a question or may be appropriate for another sub downvote and ignore it. Do not comment, do not report it to the moderation team.

I see you, I hear you, i understand where you are coming from.
May I please suggest that rather than reporting every post that doesn’t fit your personal criteria of what does and doesn’t belong on this sub you use a similar and far more powerful button that requires even fewer steps and is guaranteed to, once and forever, remove the content from this sub that you do not like.
That button is the hide button. It’s incredibly powerful and it won’t disagree with you.
Once you hide content, it’s gone from your feed, you’ll never have to see it again.
Yes there are rumblings about posts here that could be posted on other subreddits, I understand.

For the last 2 days AskPhotography has experimented with allowing Image & Video posts and Link Posts.
I'd now like to ask the community whether or not you feel allowing Image & Video posts has added to or taken away from the experience of using this sub.
Please vote the comment below that best reflects your view.
Upvote: Allowing Image & Video post formats has improved the sub.
Downvote: Allowing Image & Video post formats has subtracted from the experience using this sub.
At a later date we may experiment with continuing the ability to create Link posts but at this stage Im limiting this to just Image and Video posts.
For the next 48 hours r/askphotography will have the ability to create posts in any format.
RemindMe! 48 hours "What just happened?"
Where can a layman go to research legal matters. For example if someone wished to research the legality of cancelling an order for a custom service where would you start looking?
Most online (gov) resources seem to offer little more than "consult a lawyer". What if you just want an understanding of the law?
