My son's wanting to get into VR, mainly for games like iRacing (not a game, he keeps telling me), FNAF and beat sabers. We live in a tiny house and he shares a room with his brother. For games like this where there's very little movement, how much space is actually needed?

Also, he has a low profile GT 1030 2gb in his PC, will this be good enough for these games if I move it into a new PC and look into a new gfx card in the future? (i5-9400F, comes with GT710)

Not sure which type of headset to go with yet, still researching but trying to keep prices down

Thanks

My son is a big fan of the "Zingy Bingo" arcade games, I've tried to recreate it, it's fast paced and, I've been told, quite addictive.

He loves the arcade games, and all the others in the Play Store are not what he likes, they are either different game play, or the very few that are similar also have loads of side and mini games that are nothing to do with the original game, you have to play them to get credits etc to play the main game. Mine you can just play to your heart's content.

I released it a couple of days ago, please give it a try, still in it's infancy so happy for suggestions and criticism.

Hi, I'm beta testing my first game. I use Android Studio (Kotlin). As the gameplay starts, there's a small (400k) looping video in the background, if they win, it goes to a 1mb video (full screen). As these begin on certain phones the app crashes, but not always. I have a test device that's lower spec and that doesn't crash, but the device it is crashing on is doing it on multiple people's.

  1. Is there some way I can detect phones like this (low ram or low cpu speed etc) and show a still image instead?

  2. is there some way, less resource intensive, that I can display these "animations"? (MP4, h264, no audio, I created them so they can be output whichever way is best)

Any help or advice wo

I'm just coming to the end of writing my first game, last thing to do is enable backing up the user's game. I have leaderboards and achievements implemented fine, and all Google's docs say I should be saving games to Drive using .requestScopes(Drive.SCOPE_APPFOLDER)
which upon trying leads me to find that it's no longer going to work in 2 months.

Digging further, I found this line from Google: "Support for storing and syncing in the app data folder will likely be removed from Drive in the future."

I'm still learning all this as I go, and I'm using Kotlin (I don't know Java). Can anyone point me in the right direction to where I should be looking to backup users game data if the way Goo

I'm writing a free Android game and the users will collect characters throughout. I'm wanting to use a character called Zool, who is a character from a game of the same name on the Amiga in the 90s. The company who owned the game went bust and sold the rights to another company who went under over 10 years ago.

The game is classed at abandonware.

I would be re-drawing the character myself rather than using a screenshot or box art.

Would I be allowed to do this?

Thanks

I am trying to get my son signed up to Instagram now he's old enough, tried well over 20 times, but cannot get past the username part, it tells us it cannot go any further. I've tried mixtures of the following:

8 different email addresses with 3 different domains after the '@'

VPN

4 different devices

Signing up to Facebook and using that account

Incognito window

4G, WiFi & work's connection

Twice I've managed to get 1 step beyond the username where it asks for age, but then it goes straight back to the username page saying there's a problem.

Anyone know how to get any further?

Thanks

I'm writing a game and I want it to use Google Play Games services for leaderboards, achievements and backing up the user's progress.

All samples and examples online, including Google's own, use Java. I'm writing in, and learning, Kotlin, Google's preferred language for a year or more.

I've searched high and low and cannot find any sites/blogs that help with using Kotlin to implement it, have any of you come across anything that I can use for reference?

Any help greatly appreciated.

I am in the middle of writing an app, on the main menu, when someone clicks a button (ImageView) I'm wanting it to "bounce" a little, like it gets slightly smaller and then back to full size. I've found someone who has written instructions (in Kotlin) but I am having issues. As they wrote it months ago, they haven't responded to my response (given it a few days). The part I can't get going is:

myView.startAnimation(AnimationUtils.loadAnimation(this, R.anim.shake))

startAnimation and 'anim' within R.anim.shake have "unresolved references"
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks

One of my apps I'm wanting the sharedprefs to be backed up.

I have followed this: https://developer.android.com/guide/topics/data/autobackup.html#EnablingAutoBackup

And have enabled the sharedprefs to be backed up (even though it says they will be by default anyway) through the xml file as suggested.

I can see in the backup on the phone that it says my app keeps getting backed up when I make any changes in it. However, if I uninstall and re-install the app, everything is reset.

Can anyone offer any insight into this?

I'm currently planning a project that uses SQLite, but it's not worth it if auto ba

Hi, my next project needs a simple graph.

I started learning Kotlin a month or so ago, but everything I find online is all based around Java. I've spent 2 days searching so far and cannot find what I need. I've tried putting Java into AS before and letting it convert it but it's not once worked properly, more than likely because I'm still learning and don't know how to solve the little problems it creates just yet.

I've looked at graphview, but again, their HelloWorld example is Java too. Can anyone help me with the code to do a simple graph in Kotlin and I'll try and work out the rest from there?

Any help or pushes in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

r/Chromecast•

Hi, I just got a new Philips Android TV with built in Chromecast.

The manual is useless and just tells you how to put the stand on it and how to put batteries in the remote.

The prob I'm having is that I have no idea how to access/use Chromecast.

I can "cast" youtube to the TV, but any non-Chromecast/non-Android TV smart TV can do that. I'm wanting to talk to Google Home and ask it to show photos on the TV etc, like you can with Chromecast. But Google Home app and my Google home devices and phones say they cannot see a device to cast to.

Philips haven't responded to emails and tweets and Google have tried to help but after a couple of hours they had to give up and say Philips will need t

I'm about to start writing a new game, it's based on an arcade game with a particular name, let's call it "DeBrong" (it's not actually called that), and let's say it's a "time based letters game" (again, it's not actually) and there's no games in the Play Store that are based on this game or that type of game.

How could I get the game to show up if someone searched "DeBrong" in the Play Store without me obviously putting that in the description and potentially get it rejected due to using that name? The name is unique and not used in the English language so I couldn't get away with using it in a sentence describing something.

I've come across apps in the past where I've searched for a cer

Hi, I released my first app last week, it's the only one out there that does what it does, but it's for a niche market.

Next month I will have around £100 available to promote it (currently asking around for people to try it and give feedback before I start pushing it more), I've heard I could maybe advertise globally on Facebook for around $100. I have also seen offers from Google AdMob where if I spend £125 they will give me £125 free.

I've never done anything like this before and I don't know how it works, if I run an ad with FB or AdMob, will they target my niche audience or will it get advertised to people who won't find a need for my app? What would my budget get me with those 2 adv

r/tortoise•

HI all, I've cleared this with the mods before I posted.

I'm a recent tortoise owner, we bought a (chipped) 2 year old Hermann's, it's our first (but probably not our last) tortoise. As we were worrying about if we were feeding her enough and worrying she was not growing as she should, we kept researching and kept coming across the Jackson Ratio calculators (and Donoghue Ratio for other types of tortoise).

Last week, my wife noticed there were no apps in the Play Store to work out the ratios, she was having to use a non-mobile friendly web site each time. So I set to work on "Tortoise Growth Checker" which I published to the Play Store earlier this week. It's completely free and I would lo
