[2014] SMALL BOATS AT THE BORDER [1/2]

Hi all,

The feedback on the last story was immeasurably helpful--I now have another one I'm cooking up. I am unsure about the flashback section, but don't know how else to insert an emotive core into the characters' relationship. I also am wondering at whether I've given enough context and detail about the whole "small boats" issue--it's a massive culture war thing here in the UK, but I wanted to make sure it's intelligible to non-UK readers. Aside from that give me the usual on pacing, plot, character, arc, writing etc. Also, this is the first of two parts so do bear that in mind. Will post the second part on Tues or Weds.
