Novel fan translation: Love Beyond the Grave
Main characters: He Simu, alias He Xiaoxiao, Sovereign of Spirits
Duan Xu, courtesy name Shunxi, cult name Seventeen
Ep 19: He Simu is going to have an event where all the ghosts can attempt to kill her and take the crown. Seems very efficient to condense all the assassination plans into a single day. Duan Xu is worried about her because with repairing the tree and him, her power is diminished. But she wisely says that if she skips Kill Me Day, everyone will know something is wrong and actually murder her.
She is so lonely:
He Simu has no troubles at all with the various ghosts who attack her, which was very fun to watch:
He Simu defeats all the challengers. Duan Xu smells something weird and goes to follow it. he ends up in Jiang An's palace and then hears that ghosts tried to assassinate He Simu.
Yan Ke "saved" He Simu from an assassination attempt (I am suspicious!). Duan Xu is told to go sleep somewhere else and he actually seems to listen to Yan Ke telling him that he's useless to He Simu (I don't know if I believe...)
Ep 20: There is a ghost Bai Sanxing who is supposed to be dead from Super Ghost Prison but it was his technique used to attack He Simu after the tournament. Yan Ke and Jiang An fight over who is betraying He Simu, as it seems Bai Sanxing was connected to both of them (lover and teacher).
Duan Xu asks if he can help He Simu with her whole assassination problem and she says no, he should leave, and then there is the most unromantic kiss ever (I can only think of a few rivals). She cures him of his poison and says he has to leave with Jiang An.
But Duan Xu is not a normal person, so he goes to investigate Ghost Prison instead. In Ghost Prison you need a soul candle to just go on a tour, otherwise you get trapped in illusions. He ends up being attacked by Bia Sanxing, who is in fact NOT dead, and his soul candle is knocked away.
I bet all his obsessions will be about He Simu... nope, he also dreams of his father abandoning him in a pit AND He Simu. He Simu runs into the prison with her soul candle to find Duan Xu. He points a sword at her and she calls his name.
It has felt a little slow these last few episodes, but I loved the tournament and I am excited to see Duan Xu's reaction to being saved from Ghost Prison!
Novel bits: I've been catching up on the novel and they are really doing these characters well in the drama. I'm up to the first sense exchange. Anyway, here is a scene that the drama did so well:
“Does that mean I’m holding your heart?”
Does that mean I’m holding your heart?
She said it so casually. Duan Xu knew she was merely being curious. Their fingers were interlaced perfectly, and though he clearly couldn’t feel anything, yet somehow he could. His hand felt nothing, yet his heart trembled. The ice shard that had pierced his heart when she said “pain” finally melted, flowing into his blood, and becoming a part of his ongoing life.
Duan Xu lowered his gaze for a moment, then looked up with a smile, his bright eyes filled with a layer of light, and said, “Yes.”
Who knows since when you have held my heart.
