Zhan Zhao Adventures - Episode 19 RECAP
This series is halfway over, and the plot is becoming more intriguing and thrilling.
EPISODE 19
The Yicheng Magistrate strongly supports his handling of the previous case, recalling his days as a clerk in Tanxi Town. He claims that the files, which included physical evidence, witness statements, and information about the suspect's motivation, were perfect. He questions Bai Yutang's relationship with the late Jin Xuewen, whom he characterizes as a renowned playboy whose passing delighted the local ladies, and mocks his anger, calling it inappropriate. Bai Yutang runs out of the cell, stunned by his coldness.
Zhan Zhao stays behind, pointing out that the magistrate only took control of the case after the first trial was completed. The magistrate claims that his memory has deteriorated over the last fifteen years when Zhan Zhao asks him to describe the particulars of this supposedly solid case. Then Zhan Zhao throws a ledger into his lap and warns him that keeping quiet would only help the master manipulator who is blackmailing him, who is most definitely not He Bo.
A devastated Bai Yutang drowns his grief by drinking excessively downstairs in a neighboring pub, where he briefly catches ghostly visions of his late brother Jin Xuewen. Huo Linglong and Zhan Zhao talk about the magistrate's confession upstairs. The magistrate said that Si Ming used a hidden book with records of corrupt officials' false arrests to exert influence over them. Zhan Zhao notes that Si Ming was the one who stated Jin Xuewen's case to Zhi Hua, therefore solving this puzzle is their greatest chance of finding the perpetrator, even if they are still unable to determine whether Si Ming is a member of the government. Huo Linglong concurs, determined to assist in healing Bai Yutang's most severe emotional injury. Then Huo Linglong inquires about Ding Yuehua.
Zhan Zhao tells her that Ding Yuehua will not be penalized since the imperial court has chosen to balance her shortcomings with her strengths, acknowledging her crucial involvement in the Zhongxiaoyuan case. Zhan Zhao continues, "Lord Bao successfully presented his case, leading to his own innocence. Cheng Siqing and his allies also attempted to implicate him." Huo Linglong immediately says she will go with Zhan Zhao when he reveals his secret imperial orders to properly investigate the Lord of Xiangyang's group.
Zhan Zhao worries about her family and being close to Xiangyang, but she doesn't hesitate. Bai Yutang humorously asks whether she would want to return home and wed Shao Jizu, teasingly pointing out that they could never get rid of her. Zhan Zhao goes to the grave of his close friend Liu Hongyi after Zhi Hua is taken to the capital under guard and the other Zhongxiaoyuan member.
Zhan Zhao ultimately builds a good gravestone and pours a bottle of Liulichun wine after leaving in a hurry earlier. He gently informs his deceased buddy that Zhi Hua is imprisoned, He Bo was killed by enemies, and all those responsible for kidnapping innocent girls have been brought to justice, all thanks to the hints Liu Hongyi gave.
Zhan Zhao promises to keep up his relentless search for the Lord of Xiangyang while urging his companion to rest in peace among the stunning lakeside surroundings. Si Ming and Shao Jizu anxiously await the Lord of Xiangyang deep within the hunting grounds. Shao Jizu pauses in fear as the Lord suddenly pulls his bow and points a lethal arrow straight at him when he finally joins them. The arrow darts by and disappears into the surrounding bush. Ignoring the close call, the Lord asks whether they are still thinking about the Zhongxiaoyuan's collapse and invites them to ride. Si Ming and Shao Jizu express their deep regret for not acting sooner at Luanzaogang, and the Lord acknowledges that although the facility was a passion project, its loss shouldn't depress them. The Lord observes that Shao Jizu's archery hand is weak and inquires as to whether Huo Linglong's arrow wound has healed.
He is getting better, Shao Jizu reassures him. Huo Linglong's boldness in escaping their arranged marriage, snatching a command token, and ordering the Guanghua Army to shoot her own fiancé is considered by the Lord. Knowing full well that they cannot let the Huo family's priceless Linglong Eye disappear, Shao Jizu justifies her behavior as simple immaturity and promises to tie her up and return her to the altar.
After honoring them with the recently captured game, the Lord tells Si Ming not to worry about the brutal He Bo's death but to exercise extreme vigilance since Zhan Zhao is very cunning and has probably found evidence that points to Si Ming. After the Zhongxiaoyuan event, Si Ming secretly meets with Tang Ji, the leader of the Tang Sect, to ask him about any strange behavior in Tanxi Town or his clan.
Si Ming concludes that Finding a remedy for the Yemotian poison must be Zhan Zhao's primary priority if he wants to save the affected death troops, s. Si Ming inquires warily about Tang Ji's nephew, Tang Tianhao, as only two families in the area are capable of such advanced toxicology. Si Ming chillingly cautions Tang Ji to keep his family members under strict supervision and their lips firmly sealed after witnessing a dying fish gulp for oxygen.
When Tang Ji asks him to save the Tang Sect followers who are being detained by the authorities, Si Ming coldly rejects the request, saying that in these difficult times, the deaths of a few disciples are only a necessary sacrifice to demonstrate their commitment. Bai Yutang experiences another intense hallucination, haunted by sad childhood memories of being shunned as the brother of a murderer.
Shouting in frustration at his brother's sudden, quiet reappearances after a fifteen-year absence, he follows the ghost of Jin Xuewen into the street and demands to know whether he has returned due to the unsolved murder case. Huo Linglong and Zhan Zhao rush to his side. A stubborn Bai Yutang maintains that he is OK and only had a horrible dream once he regains consciousness. The youthful Tang Sect teacher, Tang Tianhao, is soon introduced to them.
Tang Tianhao explains that Bai has a unique poison-immune physique when Huo Linglong questions whether Bai's safety is because of some uncommon herbs he ate. He says that in order to protect their children from illness and poisonous animals, the Jin family of Tanxi Town has traditionally passed down Physician's Blood by bathing them in a secret medicinal water before the age of seven.
Huo Linglong soon makes the connection, pointing out that his brother's name was Jin Xuewen and understanding why Bai Yutang was so sure of the Jin family's medical expertise. Tang Tianhao acknowledges his own medical limits and acknowledges that the poison's designer is considerably better than he is, implying that they must ask the Jin family directly for help if they genuinely wish to heal the poisoned victims, even if Bai Yutang strongly denies any connections to the Jins.
Zhan Zhao and Huo Linglong bring Tang Tianhao away for a private discussion when Zhan Zhao senses the young master is holding back. Zhan Zhao kindly requests that he share any leads he may have found. Huo Linglong notes that Tang Tianhao is a horrible liar who would never ordinarily admit to being surpassed unless his uncle, Tang Ji, had instructed him to remain silent, despite Tang Tianhao's initial hesitation due to his allegiance to the Tang Sect.
Tang Tianhao gives in after being moved by their honesty. He reveals that Yemotian is an extremely advanced development of the Seven-Day Drunken Dream, a poison from fifteen years ago. Yemotian is a clever innovation, whereas the previous poison used a volatile mixture of Muyan Flower pollen, Bone-Corroding Herb, and Chishazi to kill its victims in seven days. Its developer used its severe toxicity to precisely balance the other poisons by introducing the extremely deadly Luohui in precisely the right amounts.
According to Tang Tianhao, his uncle angrily told him to cease his studies and stay away from Huo Linglong's friends. Tang Tianhao asks Zhan Zhao to grant his clan mercy on the day of reckoning, acknowledging that the Tang Sect has formed an alliance with a dangerous man known as Si Ming. Zhan Zhao earnestly vows to take his plea into consideration. Reluctantly, Bai Yutang talks about his connections to the Jin family over a bottle of excellent wine from Liuketang.
He affirms that in order for Jin children to become proficient in healing, they must first become proficient with poisons, frequently using deadly insects and plants by the time they are seven or eight years old. He reluctantly admits Jin Zhenping's apparent brilliance, pointing out that at the age of fourteen, he created the Qingyin Powder to treat the plum rain miasma, and at the age of twenty-eight, he became leadership of the clan. He explains that Zhan Zhao's life was first rescued by his kind fourth aunt, not Jin Zhenping, using the family's priceless Naiheyin.
The unquestionable connection between Si Ming, the Tang Sect, the Jin family, and the tragedy of Jin Xuewen is highlighted by Zhan Zhao. The Jins must enter their property since they have the secret to neutralizing Yemotian. Bai Yutang notes that the triennial Suwen Assembly, a famous event where the winner is granted the privilege of discovering the hidden Tiangen Yueku Needles, has filled the local inns.
They understand that this huge celebration is the ideal pretext for breaking into the Jin Mansion, which is closely guarded. The next day, Bai Yutang takes them to Huaihua Alley, where he grew up. He describes how, as brothers who were born to concubines, his father and Jin Zhenping's father shared the family property and left early.
Bai's parents died when he was just three years old, leaving him and his elder brother Jin Xuewen to be raised by Xiangcai, their devoted old servant. Fifteen years ago, a young Bai Yutang enthusiastically registered his brother for the Suwen Assembly after defending his extraordinary natural skill against suspicious staff. This is a bittersweet recollection. Jin Xuewen was known as a careless flirt at the time because he spent his days with Qiuchan, a prostitute.
He assured his younger brother that he would concentrate on the competition, but disaster struck when county officials unexpectedly invaded their home and found a murder weapon and bloodied clothing. Jin Xuewen was imprisoned after being accused of murdering a girl in the nearby courtyard, when he became afflicted with the fatal disease.
Young Bai Yutang had begged for Naiheyin while kneeling in the ground before the Jin family gates, but the arrogant clan would not part with their inheritance for a suspected murderer who had allegedly tarnished their reputation. His sibling passed away the next day. When Huo Linglong hears this, she painfully remembers that her own aunt in Tanxi Town also died from the epidemic.
According to Bai Yutang, Jin Zhenping ensured that the outbreak never expanded outside of the town, won the Suwen Assembly, and swiftly developed a treatment for the virus in order to guarantee his legacy. Bai Yutang returns to the present and recognizes an old Jin family servant.
He corners the guy and tells him to communicate a harsh message to Jin Zhenping, telling him to meet him in the Cuixilin on the back mountain and threatening to play Doucao with his kids again if the family head does not show up. In the meanwhile, the servant delivers the word to an enraged Jin Zhenping.
Frightened of the crazy young man who previously abducted his children, he gives his employees instructions to say that the Fourth Lady has returned to her mother's house and he has left for a medical appointment, so neither is at the manor when Bai Yutang knocks. In another scene, Huo Linglong runs across a refined woman who knows her. The woman remembers visiting Linglong Manor and how Huo Linglong used to cling to her aunt as a little child.
She offers an invitation to Linglong to visit her home, where her late husband's mourning room is set up. When Huo Linglong inquires as to whether her uncle died from a disease, the woman cruelly discloses that, in the harsh world of martial arts, he was killed rather than being lucky enough to die from natural causes.
