Only Rajhin was not captured by panic, standing still in the middle of the surrounding hullaballoo. He stared up at the moon grimly and with faint confusion, as if the red moon offended him. As I stood up, I felt a sort of pressure relieved from me. The Bloodmoon had destabilized the warding enchantment, meaning that my spirit was now free—and Rajhin was now defenseless against my power. Without wasting a moment, I leapt over the chopping block and off of the execution platform, towards Rajhin. A spark of magic knocked him backwards, the Black Star flying out of his pocket. Before Rajhin could right himself, the Star was in my hands, crackling with magicka.

“Now, Kvaasik...you are making a mistake, yes? Have you not seen the capabilities of being without a body? You can control those who oppose you, even live off of their essence.”

Rajhin was bargaining for his life. Such a pathetic act from a being revered as an equal to gods, now pleading for his freedom like a beggar pleads for spare coins. I held the soul gem firmly, feeling the sleek facets of the black crystal. I began to channel a soul trap spell—the most powerful soul trap I have ever cast—on not the body itself, but Rajhin’s Mantle. Despite the illusion of embroidered robes, I knew that Rajhin must wear the Mantle to maintain the link to my form.

Violet sparks twisted and warped the air, creating flourishes of swirling purple dancing with the velvet moonlight in a passionate and teasing embrace. Rajhin poured out of his eyes and his mouth, into the inky blackness of the astral artifact.

Immediately, I was pulled from Malkoran and back into my own body, leaving Malkoran a folded corpse and Rajhin a faint memory. I felt whole for the first time in what seemed like eternity, my own blood through my own veins, my own mind. Under the scarlet-bleeding Bloodmoon, I was myself once more.
