Semi-daily hero tips. Day 19: Clockwerk

Tip

PREVIOUS HEROES

DISCLAIMER

A lot of you probably know about the weekly hero discussion, but that often ends up in a meta discussion (whether or not the hero needs buffs, etc) or a meme war than actual tips to play, itemize and build the hero.

This is what I'd like to do. Please discuss any notes I made and possible improvements while also giving tips of your own if you have them.

The roles, skill builds and item builds, as well as a lot of the notes are my opinion on matters and should not be seen as a must do or don't. Also remember that almost every single build or role is situationally possible.

A lot of the tips on heroes were also mentioned in tsunami's amazing hero tips series he did over the last couple of years.

Clockwerk

Notes:

  • When you cog an enemy near your tower, clear the cog closest to it and run out. The enemy will get shocked and pushed further running out.
  • Use cogs to deny areas, block passages, etc.
  • Use flares to cancel clarities all over the map and block creep camp spawns
  • Versus: Try not to get hit by flare when running back to fountain. Wait a while, take a detour, etc.
  • Battery assault doesn't hit invis units but it does hit units in the fog
  • Counters: Rubick (lift clock out of cogs), AM (blink, manta), QoP (blink), Chen, Meepo (lots of units to keep battery assault from hitting), PL (illusions + way out of cogs), Phoenix (clockwerk has no right click, cogs make sun ray easy), Huskar (just kills clock in cogs), Storm, Ember, Spectre (way out of cogs), Juggernaut (blade fury)
  • A full lvl 4 battery assault does 1760 magic damage before reductions
  • Following heroes can't cast spells in battery assault: BS, ES (except echo slam), Jakiro, Leshrac, Luna, Naga (except rip tide), Ogre magi, SF, Sniper (except shrapnel), Furion, SB, Brewmaster ult, Underlord (/u/oberynMelonLord)
  • Clockwerk can miss hits on cogs by blinds.
  • Cogs can push units outside kinetic field or chronosphere
  • Movement spells ignore cogs, force staff does/should not (it's been known to be bugged sometimes). Free pathing also lets you move through cogs (still zapping you like force staff)
  • Hookshot stun has an AOE
  • Hookshot stuns when latching, damage is applied when clock hits the enemy.
  • Clock can be moved as he flies with hookshot, thus cancelling the damage from flying in.
  • Weavers swarm can block Clockwerks hookshot.
  • If someone on the enemy team has a force staff. Hook them and then walk past them so you can push them back with your cogs instead of trap them in.
  • Block your offlane by using cogs at the start (unless you can push an enemy up a cliff with them at the 00:00 mark, which is very hard nowadays. OR unless you can get first blood with battery assault).

Role: solo laner, initiator, ganker

Item build: Treads/Phase <-> 2 of Infused raindrops/bottle/wand, (mek, pipe, force staff, Vlad's, Halberd, ghost scepter, blademail, agh's, shiva's, sheep, crimson)

Skill build: Battery assault --> flare --> cogs
