Epic of Remnant II: The Woman of Agartha - Section 9 Summary

Story Translation

Section 9: Temporary Retreat

Rider: "I don't want to admit it, but I have to. The result is... one step forward, two step backwards."

Mashu: "Yes, attacking Wu Zetian and felling the Nightless City is a success but..."

Astolfo: "Now it has become part of the Amazons' territory, hasn't?"

Rider: "Yeah. We don't have any concrete information about what happened, but according to the people who stayed to obtain information, The Natural Disaster, that giant thing raged by itself and disappeared, just like usual."

Rider: "After it disappeared, the Amazons took control of the remains of the city."

Da Vinci: "Natural Disaster or giant thing, those names lack an artistic touch, don't you think? We should decide a name for him soon."

Da Vinci: "Even though that is Herakles, there's a massive change in his Saint Graph. His output, endurance, and even Divinity have risen greatly. I want to call him Gigas, or perhaps, Gigant but..."

Da Vinci: "Most likely, he wouldn't want to be called by the names of the enemies of Olympian Gods."

Da Vinci: "Let's call him Herakles Megalos (Giant Hero Herakles) instead. Just Megalos (Giant Hero) is also fine."

Mashu: "Yes, I feel that I do not want to call it, Herakles-san. From now, let us call it, Megalos."

Mashu then questioned the condition of Wu Zetian's citizens once the Amazons took control of the city.

Rider: "They seem to have lost all of their vitality. Seems like they readily submit to and obeyed the Amazons."

Da Vinci: "If we consider the way they increase... it is possible that the citizens and the pirates are existences similar to a familiar with special characteristics."

Da Vinci: "Counterfeit residents, created by the rulers in Agartha. If so, it is not weird to believe that there is a system where if the ruler changes, their ownership also changes."

Rider: "Hm... Ownership, is it?"

Rider: "I don't know how they predicted the timing, but the Amazons suddenly swooped in and snatched everything."

Rider: "Tch, it's really unpleasant. I'll definitely get them back for this."

Rider: "....more than that, though."

Rider turned his gaze towards the Caster of the Nightless City who stood in silence.

Rider: "Why is that woman here? She's Assassin's strategist, right?"

Ritsuka: "We can't just leave her there..."

Mashu: "Speaking in terms of dangers, there are problems, however, I believe that it is a very Senpai-like decision."

Fou let out a small cry, as if agreeing with Mashu.

Caster suddenly fell to the ground on all fours, her head touching the ground. It is a pose that Ritsuka recognized.

Ritsuka: "OH Japanese DOGEZA?!"

d'Eon: "Ah, I know of it as well. However, look at the way she lowered her head, the beauty of how she placed her hands together. It is as if it is an Art. Such an absolute perfection!"

Rider: "The hell are you doing?"

Caster: "...I have heard of this. This is dogeza, a method of apologizing, in a country called, Japan."

Caster: "Putting all your body and spirit in an absolute intent to apologize. Also, a pose to show capitulation straight from heart and to plead for one's life."

Rider: "Pleading for one's life, you say?"

Caster: "Yes. I... don't want to, die. My desire is, only that. I, surrender to you who have defeated Wu Zetian."

Caster: "I believe, that is the most suitable choice to avoid death. That is why, please, spare my life. If it is something I can do, I will do anything."

Da Vinci: "Is it alright for you to be saying something like that lightly~? In this world, there are some beasts who would target your voluptuous body. Someone might attack you, you know?"

...

Fergus: "Everyone's gaze is focusing on me! It's about me again?!"

Caster trembled when she heard Fergus speak.

Fergus: "Please stop looking at me with that 'despite his appearance... this person is...' eyes."

Fergus: "That's about me who is not me. I definitely won't do something like that."

Fergus cleared his throat.

Fergus: "Still, I can understand what she is saying. Not wanting to die is a natural wish, especially for a woman who is not even a warrior."

Rider: "Basically, Caster, you want to be the strategist of Resistance from now on, is that how it is?"

Caster: "That is... the only thing I can do."

Rider: "Originally, you were in Ys working for Dahut. Betraying her, you became Wu Zetian's strategist. And now you come here."

Caster: "...not trusting me is, natural. However, even those acts were all, for the sake of my single wish. Because, I don't want to die."

Caster: "Even now... I, don't want to die. That's why, please don't kill me. Please don't send me away."

Da Vinci: "I can understand why you don't want to be killed. But you also don't want us to chase you out?"

Caster: "Yes, if I am to be sent away from here, I will have no choice but to go to the Amazons of El Dorado."

Rider silently glared at Caster who blatantly admitted that she would join their enemy.

Caster: "No, that's, wrong. I wasn't, trying to threaten you or anything..."

Caster: "Uhh... I have accidentally said something that leads me closer to death... I have to reflect on it..."

As Caster reflected upon her words, a certain part of her body caught Ritsuka's attention.

Ritsuka: 'Jiggle... jiggle... it's jiggling...'

Astolfo: "Master, you stopped moving with an expression full of awe like you just got hit by a shock. What's wrong?"

d'Eon: "If you are not trying to threaten us by saying you'll become our enemy if we do not employ you, then what are you trying to say?"

Caster: "Most likely, the Queen of El Dorado has no need of me. There is a high possibility of me being killed."

Caster: "Therefore, there are three paths before me."

Caster: "To be killed here, to be chased out and be killed by Amazons, or to become your ally."

Caster: "That is why, no matter what, I have to earn your trust somehow."

Ritsuka: "Even if you ask us to trust you..."

Caster: "If you claim that my service as a strategist is not enough, then there is no need to hesitate any longer."

Caster: "As a proof of capitulation, I shall reveal my True Name."

Mashu's eyes widened in surprise as Fou also let out a cry as if it was surprised by Caster's words.

Caster: "I am Scheherazade. A Caster just in name. A woman with no ability except to tell a story."

Da Vinci: "I see, Scheherazade, is it? I kinda suspected it from that strange summoning magic. If it's Scheherazade, then I understand."

Ritsuka: "Feels like I've heard of her. But who is it again?"

Da Vinci: "Even if you don't know her name, you should be able to remember just by hearing the name of the story related to her."

Da Vinci: "The One Thousands and One Nights Story. Also known as the 1001 Nights. Also, the Arabian Night."

Da Vinci: "She is the outside part of that collection of stories. The storyteller of all those stories."

Da Vinci: "To stop the brutality of an evil king, she continued to tell new story every night. The courageous daughter of a vizier."

Scheherazade: "Courage... it's nothing like that. I just... don't want to die. I was... desperate."

Scheherazade: "As I have read myriad scrolls, I have acquired many knowledge."

Scheherazade: "That knowledge can somewhat be utilized to read the movements of the enemy's forces or to predict opportunities."

Scheherazade: "That's why... what shall it be...?"

Scheherazade was silent for a moment but then she speaks once more.

Sceheherazade: "Of course, if you do not wish for that. And if you say that you will kill me should I not show any other merit, then..."

The Caster trembled as she continued her words, her eyes darting towards Fergus in fear.

Scheherazade: "I have no choice but to use this body..."

Fergus: "Like I said, you don't have to look at me while shivering!"

Mashu: "What should we do, Senpai?"

Ritsuka: "The more allies we have, the better."

d'Eon: "If that is Master's decision, then we only need to obey. Certainly, she was an enemy until before, but I don't think she is lying."

Astolfo: "When we escaped from the Nightless City, she gave some advice, right? If she planned to harm us, then she wouldn't stop us from attacking that giant thing."

Scheherazade: "Aah... I thank you..."

Fergus: "If you feel thankful, you should smile. As long as there is a feeling of gratitude, it'll reach others."

Fergus: "I don't know your situation, but women should be like that. I mean, not to obey men, but to naturally do as you want."

Rider: "If you guys are fine with that, there's no use in me complaining about it alone. It's true that we lack combat power here."

Rider: "But, what I want to make sure is whether she can be a combat power or not. Will knowledge from books really be useful?"

Scheherazade: "I believe it is natural to be concerned about that. If there is a chance to show my usefulness, I shall lead..."

Scheherazade: "No, fortunately, such chance has come. This smell in the air, it is the same as the one that was felt by Hasib, the son of Daniel."

Scheherazade: "In other words, the smell of a snake-woman."

Rider seemed skeptical and surprised by Scheherazade's sudden claim, but then the Resistance boy called out to him, reporting that a group of Lamias appeared and are moving towards them.

Rider: "Hou... I see."

Scheherazade: "I shall also, assist in the extermination. If it is for the sake of showing my usefulness, I have no other choice."

Scheherazade: "However, I, at my core, dislike direct combat. I will be happy, If you keep that in mind."

Scheherazade: "After all... in battle, you die if you lose."

Rider: "Fumu, okay then. For now, I'll acknowledge you as a strategist, Scheherazade.

Scheherazade lowered her head in gratitude.

Astolfo: "Un, un. Having more allies is a good thing."

Astolfo: "I suddenly realized as I was thinking about what we should do now, but..."

Astolfo: "...we have to defeat a Demon Pillar that is somewhere in this Agartha, right?"

Astolfo: "To somehow deal with this strange Singularity and to help the men here."

Mashu: "Yes, that is correct. Defeating the Demon Pillar and breaking this Agartha is our indispensable Order."

Mashu: "Even if we manage to dig a hole and allow the men to escape outside."

Mashu: "As long as we do not deal with the source of the problem. Most likely there will be another victim falling to this place."

Astolfo: "I understand that."

Astolfo: "But about the Demon Pillar we have to defeat. At first I thought it's El Dorado Berserker, but..."

Astolfo: "Is it possible that it's that Megalos instead?"

Mashu's eyes widened as she considered that possibility.

Mashu: "That is... yes, that is true. Certainly such possibility exists!"

d'Eon: "That size and power. Certainly it can't be called a normal Servant, but..."

Astolfo: "Still... if it's actually true. Defeating it will be hard, right? I mean, it's so strong that you can only laugh."

Fergus: "Please allow me to say that as a man of Celt, that is exactly what I wished for."

Fergus: "The stronger the opponent we have to defeat, the better. The enemy is the famed Great Hero of Greece."

Fergus: "Defeating it who became weaker is nothing to be proud about, but defeating it who became stronger will bring us limitless honor and glory."

Fergus: "...whether the current me can defeat him or not is another matter..."

Rider: "No, no. No matter how you think about it, the Demon Pillar is that girl from El Dorado, right? If not, it won't be consistent."

d'Eon: "What exactly do you mean by... consistent?"

Rider: "If this Agartha is made by that Demon Pillar thing, then the way this place works should also match that thing's thinking."

Rider: "And, the way this world works is clear. It's a world where men from above ground fell to this place, and the women used their seed to create more women."

Rider: "Basically, Agartha is the world of women."

Rider: "So, at the very least, to match that, the ones who rules this world should be the candidates of that Demon Pillar, right?"

Rider: "There were three of those candidates. Only one left."

Scheherazade: "Dahut, Wu Zetian, and then, the Berserker of El Dorado..."

Scheherazade: "I believe that those three... possess a different will compared to us who were dragged into it."

Scheherazade: "The question is whether that is a disposition that they possess naturally, or if that came from the influence of the Demon Pillar."

d'Eon: "Then, by the process of elimination, only one is left, is it?"

Astolfo: "Then, as expected, El Dorado Berserker is our first priority target."

Astolfo: "Also, not just Fergus and someone who seemed like Captain Drake, but also a Herakles-like thing."

Astolfo: "All Chaldea Servants who disappeared seemed to be here, don't you think?"

Rider: "...who knows? I think I've said this before but, I never met them, so I don't know."

Scheherazade: "Yes, I cannot say. I have never met them anywhere in Agartha. Or perhaps, Dahut, Wu Zetian, or Berserker consider them as an enemy and killed them. There is also such possibility."

Scheherazade: "Aah... how disagreeable. I don't want to be killed..."

Scheherazade: "Just by thinking about it makes me want to practice the way I beg for my life."

Scheherazade: "As expected, increasing the quality of the excellent all-purpose method, dogeza is the best way to obtain the peace of mind..."

d'Eon: "That Perfect Dogeza will be perfected even more?"

Rider: "Anyway, nothing we can do about people who might or might not be here."

Rider: "We can't really calculate Megalos' movement. The combat power are the ones that are here only."

Rider: "Now then, Ms. strategist. It starts here. How do we fight El Dorado? How should we move first? Let me hear your answer."

Scheherazade: "Well then, while it might be presumptous of me to do so, please allow me to propose a plan. What we should do from now is-"

Since a lot of the conversation of this chapter shows Scheherazade's personality and have some important bits of information, I decided to translate most of it directly.
