Isn’t this the olive tree of Vouves in Crete? I vaguely remember reading about this before. I think it’s amazing it still produces fruit!

Edit: link here

Yes it is, can confirm, I live 10 mins from that spot.

I used the pen tool around the tree to keep the shape and pasted this image into it. I brought the saturation down around 70. But added some color to the neutrals to try & match the tree. Also played with exposure to bring the brightness down.

Then used warp so nothing was getting cut off on the sides, and added a pattern layer with the blend mode set to soft light. Just to give it that bark look.

I then used lighting effects (filter/render/lighting effects) with infinite light using gray to match the shadows, then a white spot light across the center/diagonally to give it that strip lighting to somewhat match the original.

I then went around with a soft eraser to try and blend areas that had hard edges, especially around the bottom of the tree.

I would say around 20 minutes. The first 2 paragraphs take no time at all. It was the lighting and blending with the eraser that took most of my time.

8
ShadowMerlyn•

It took me a minute to figure out what was different. I had to zoom in. I was creeped out. Well done.

I was hoping I'd open it and find some dudes in 70s swag getting down.

Fake. How can something be older than the earth... 2018 not 3018.

26
Dr5alty•

how can it be real if our eyes aren't real?

16
Khatib•

Not enough Random Capitalization.

8
Alexander556•

I have never been able to understand what he exactly ment with our eyes not being real? Maybe I care too much about the quotes of a not really good actor but I fear this has a deeper meaning.

3
BottlesJr•

I really hope this is a joke. I've met people in real life who think 1 BC is the first year of the earth and it reset at 1 AD, but this is a different level of not understanding time.

12018 for human history.

1
ghostinthewoods•

It boggles the mind how much history that tree has probably seen

15
squiidward275•

there are even older trees in california! bristlecone pines have been found at over 5000 years old. The craziest part is that they are found high in the mountains in extremely poor soil and harsh weather yet they are still one of the longest living organisms in the world

7
ghostinthewoods•

Yes indeed, though fun fact- the oldest known living tree is in fact Old Tjikko in Sweden. It's 9,560 years old!

5

1

This tree is older than the Greek alphabet!

5
white_android•

Well I'm just curious, does this tree still produce olives and if so do they taste differently than younger olives given it's age?

Or have we not changed olives like we've changed lemons and other edible stuff

4
Domiren•

Someone needs to turn this into The Great Deku Tree as seen in LoZ: OoT
