The Mo Long counter Advent Calendar - Day 11
The team: Ellena Fran Racuni
Usable against: ?
How it works: Today's team isn't a set comp. A lot of times in siege you'll run across a unique or non-standard Mo Long team, where either your usual comps might not do as well against, or it can be countered by some of the less used monsters in your box so that you can save your better monsters for tougher teams.
I really like the high elementals - not just Kahli, but her water and light sisters Ellena and Shren as well. I always try to reduce the amount of setup and RNG checks involved in a fight, and ignore def attacks are the best at this since they ignore will runes and don't require def break. If you pair them with a speedy Kona or Teon, you can easily snipe an enemy monster at the beginning of the match. The major downside to them is that they are super squishy. They work best against defs without too much AoE (either aoe damage or aoe cc) so you can set up proper elemental tanks for them to not get targeted. Other than Mo Long, the rest of the def here did not have aoe, so I wanted to use a high elemental.
Kahli obviously isn't safe to use against Mo Long, and against this def they had a dark DD in Fermion so Shren wouldn't work either. So to use Ellena safely, I knew I had to have a fire tank for Mo Long and a light tank for Fermion. Between those 2 supports, I also knew I needed an attack buff for Ellena. There aren't very many good fire atk buffers other than Colleen who is typically runed for PvE, but fortunately there are 2 excellent light tanks that have both atk buff and sustain - Teon and Fran. Teon is probably ideal to use in this situation if you have a good swift set on her and are confident in getting 1st turn. I was not confident in outspeeding the enemy Mo Long, so I went with Fran since the rest of her kit is much better for a sustained fight between her CC, heals, and cleanse.
As far as the fire tank for Mo Long goes, Harmonia is probably the best and most accessible. But let's say you already used your Harmonia, what else is there? Racuni, while a popular monster, is often overlooked as a Mo Long tank. He may not have the burst heal to counter Mo Long's S3 as well, but his passive heal and cleanse coupled with his resurge ability counters Mo Long's other 2 skills much better, especially his strip/stun.
Strategy: Since you have tanks for everything, 1 shot whichever monster you can depending on how the battle goes. Normally it would be the Harmonia first since I can 1 shot her from full with atk buff unlike Mo Long (who can potentially have too much HP) or Fermion (who has damage reduction from his passive). However, if Mo Long weakens himself with S3 and the opportunity presents itself, you can also go for him first. Then the resulting 3v2 should be easy.
Runing considerations:
Ellena - standard slow nuker build.
Fran - any sort of support build with some atk stats is fine since her heals scale off atk. Vio is nice but not required. Rev is especially nice given her strong S1.
Racuni - if you were to prioritize stats on a Racuni specifically for dealing with Mo Long, I would make him tankier and slower than normal. A nem set is great. Again, vio is nice but not required.
Seriousness factor: 7/10. Pretty solid team when you can specifically counter the enemy def. Still not super reliable considering you're giving Mo Long a turn, and all your monsters are relatively on the squishy side.
