On the 7/31/2000 episode of Nitro, Shane Douglas faced Billy Kidman in a Viagra on a Pole Match. This is part of the buildup for a match at New Blood Rising between the two wrestlers.
Before I get into the match itself, here’s some much needed context:
Billy Kidman and Torrie Wilson were a couple on-screen from late 1999 into 2000. At the Great American Bash, Torrie Wilson turned on Billy Kidman during his match with Hulk Hogan. The following month at Bash at the Beach, Torrie Wilson joined up with Shane Douglas and helped him beat Buff Bagwell.
On the July 18, 2000 episode of Nitro, Shane Douglas (with help from Torrie Wilson) beat Billy Kidman to advance to the U.S. Title Tournament Semifinals. Billy Kidman would come out later that night and see Shane Douglas lose to Lance Storm in their semifinal match. A match is also booked for New Blood Rising between Billy Kidman and Shane Douglas.
On the 7/24/2000 Nitro, the babyface Billy Kidman came down to the announcer's table and says he has a birthday present for Torrie Wilson: a sex tape that he and Torrie made together a while back. Kidman eventually pays parts of the sex tape on the jumbotron and provides copies of the sex tape to all the boys in the back.
On the July 26th episode of Thunder, another tape is released. This time, it's Torrie Wilson with Shane Douglas in bed. Shane has "performance issues".
Finally, on this episode of Nitro, WCW Commissioner Ernest Miller tells Shane Douglas he loved Thunder last week. Miller books Shane Douglas in the Viagra on a Pole Match against Billy Kidman.
Now, onto the match itself.
Shane and Torrie come down to the ring while a video package of the two tapes from Nitro and Thunder plays. We then see a very large bottle of Viagra hanging from the pole, as Mark Madden starts his many, many Viagra/sex jokes during this match. Shane Douglas cuts a promo in the ring. Shane Douglas, the heel in this promo, says this sex tape BS has gone on for too long and vows revenge for what Kidman has done.
Billy Kidman starts to come down to the ring. Tony Schiavone starts to explain this rules of this match. If you get the bottle of Viagra, you can use it on your opponent...hitting your opponent on the head with it. I like how Schiavone had to clarify that part and Scott Hudson asked how someone was supposed to use the bottle during the match.
The match begins after Kidman gets in the ring. Schiavone says this personal beef is of the most personal kind and is being settled in this Viagra on a Pole Match. Mark Madden talks about all the great legends who have competed in this kind of a match. Scott Hudson says there is a Straitjacket Match later tonight between Kevin Nash and Scott Steiner, and there is nothing funny about that (Scott is correct). Mark Madden talks about the New York Times review of the Kidman/Torrie sex tape. Scott Hudson tells Tony to "hang in there", and Tony replies somewhat dejectedly "I'm doing my best."
Torrie Wilson jumps up Billy Kidman, and Douglas takes control of the match. The wrestling between Shane and Kidman isn't bad so far. Mark Madden adds, "Isn't Viagra on a Pole kinda redundant, by the way?" Tony Schiavone is at a loss of words for a brief moment. Tony tries to put over the highly personal beef between Shane Douglas and Billy Kidman despite all the various jokes by Mark Madden. The camera cuts to the bottle of Viagra, then back to the main camera shot which includes two signs in the lower left corner which reads "David Penzer" [the WCW Ring Announcer] "has a 10-inch microphone".
Mark Madden talks about the classic Nick Bockwinkel-Verne Gagne Viagra on a Pole. Tony Schiavone is breaking down, and tells Mark three times to shut up. Douglas and Kidman have a pretty good exchange in the ring (the wrestling portion of the match is actually decent). Mark Madden says, "you knew what you were getting when you hired me." Shane Douglas hits the Pittsburgh Plunge, and goes up for the Viagra. Kidman gets up and hits a powerbomb on Shane Douglas. Torrie tries to distract Billy Kidman, but Kidman takes out Shane Douglas.
Billy Kidman climbs the turnbuckle and grabs the Viagra. He holds the Viagra high with his right hand. Torrie Wilson still has the referee distracted. Kidman comes down from the turnbuckle, but Douglas catches Kidman. Douglas hits a jawbreaker which causes the bottle to shatter and send Viagra flying everywhere in the ring. Douglas grabs the Viagra label and holds it up for the referee to see. The referee calls for the bell and rules Shane Douglas as the winner of the match. Afterward, Douglas attacks Kidman on the mat, and Torrie Wilson rubs Kidman face first onto the Viagra pills. Kidman has some of the pills in his mouth, as the announcers get serious for a moment to warn about drug overdoses.
