so in a post a while back i was explaining "zones" in Valheim. 64x64 areas that affect loading and blah blah a bunch of other stuff.

after doing some testing (and being annoyed that my instances didnt drop as much as i thought they would) in 3 different pre-update worlds in probably about 20 areas, I have concluded the following:

#optterrain console command does not work on all terrain.

there is a 4 meter wide area on every seam that does not get converted to the new system. a 4 meter wide area that is unoptimized old terraforming that you cannot fix without resetting it with a mod and manually changing the terrain to how it was before.

i tested this by doing the following:

I seriously cannot find any information about this anywhere. Most people I ask don't even know what I am talking about to begin with.

Asked in the patchnotes thread, no answer. Asked in multiple discords, no answer. Asked in reddit comments, no answer.

In patch 0.148.6, this feature was added along side the tool delay. You held the destroy button with the hammer, and it automatically destroyed any piece you were hovered over. No need to spam the button over and over destroying one piece at a time. It was absolutely great.

In patch 0.148.7, it just seems to have disappeared. No clue what happened to it and it was never mentioned in the patch notes.

Can somebody PLEASE tell me if this was

im so glad the devs have decided to completely abandon old.reddit users.

they used to keep updating old.reddit and they used to say it would never be abandoned.....

HA. that really lasted long didnt it?

although, from some of the posts on here, im not missing much. so who gives a shit if it didnt come to old reddit. oh well.

Every seed I have ever played on has been utter garbage for mountain biomes. Hell, I have only ever been above the clouds ONCE out of all the seeds I have played.

I am looking for a seed with some large mountain biomes. Large land area, or good height. Or both!

Please help this ole viking to retire on a nice big mountain.

One of the biggest things I read about is the lag and high instances in and around bases. I have some tips that might help, and an explanation of how the game-engine works.

Valheim maps are divided into 64 x 64 "tiles" or "sections". After some extensive testing, I have concluded multiple things.

  1. at any given time, 25 of these 64x64 sections will be fully loaded. The one you are standing in, and the surrounding 2 rings of sections.

  2. the max draw distance for player built things is 180 units. HOWEVER, objects are still loaded if they are within the confines of point number 1. (i dont know about non-player built things. trees seem to have a higher distance)

  3. even with the lowest dra

Am I the only one who has problems telling the difference between Meadows, Black Forest and Mistlands on the map, unless I am zoomed waaaaay in?

The colors of the biomes are not bad themselves, the issue is the trees that are overlayed over the biomes on the map. They are the same no matter what biome they are in. They are not different colors like the biomes themselves.

While zoomed in, this is not a problem since I can see around the little trees fairly well. But as soon as I zoom out or just look at a quick glance, its a nightmare for me to tell the difference.

I am not even visually impaired so I cannot imagine how it is for someone who is.

Is there a way to turn the trees off on the

#I want to preface this with the following:

I have no problem with people using 3rd party tools to make their lives easier. If something can be floated to a certain spot, then by all means use the tool to cut down the time drastically. I actually encourage that. I cannot imagine the time it would take to do some of the houses on here. If something can be placed in a certain spot but it's a huge pain in the ass to get it perfect (say under the stairs where the camera angle is a pain in the ass to get right) then again, by all means use the tool.

What I am talking about is the placement of furnishings that is just impossible without the tool. Non-tabletop/wall items sunken below the

Man, finally being in a guild that is active... I have no idea what I am doing with guild battles. Narco, gib advice please. Also, you guys are chatty, which is kinda nice. I had to turn chat back on cause I had it off since I didn't want to have it on for no reason.

I think I have figured out my issue with the game. I have been just working on everybody randomly, trying to keep them all kinda even instead of just doing things for specific people along the way. Finally started focusing on the ones I use the most and managed to get them a little bit farther along.

I am so ready to drop a couple hundred bucks just to make life easier. Ugh.... gatcha games. Every day I get closer to just open

Let me start by saying this whole thing sounds like an issue where the server doesnt actually recognize you were in the house. Now I dont know why, and it is a pretty stupid bug, but there are ways to FORCE the server to 100% know you were in the house. I am going to be giving you a few tips here that you should try to do (at least ONE of them) every time you log in.

  1. After you enter your house, LEAVE your house (this is the easiest method, but I am really not sure it would trigger the server to know you were there in the first place, try the others if you can, but if this is all you can do make sure you do it).

  2. Interact with an item. Food, NPC, summoning bells, armoire, FC chest, bla

Yea I dunno what that was all about. My browser was like HELL NAW and told me reddit was trying to load an unauthenticated script. Then suddenly I am logged out and on the redesign when I log back in....

Anyone else who gets logged out randomly, did a script warning ever pop up for you?

edit: lmfao downvoted by the redesign-hugbox-brigade. for bringing up a legitimate point. this subs logic is flawless.

Your friendly neighborhood technical info guy here. You may remember me from when I explained reflective surfaces in XIV and how the "googly eye" sunglasses worked, or you might remember me bitching about the technical changes they made to render priority, or you might not remember me at all. Either way, I am here to shed some light behind the technical issues with giving player models bare feet.

Rigging

Yup, that single word is the major issue. The rigging of the player models is what i
