I am working as a Machine Learning dev on an NLP project in the Aerospace industry. To give professional context, prior to this most of my ML work so far has been with structured numerical, ordinal, or categorical data from 3D simulations & video games and NLP is somewhat new to me.

Specifically the goal is the following

  1. Users take a picture of standardized work specifications with a custom app on their phones and then an OCR technology recognizes the text in the picture. (The OCR tech is already working)
  2. A custom NLP tech classifies the text in the picture into specific classes and then populates a form in the app with the recognized text.

I am working on the NLP side and tryi

Background

I am male, and my friend is female.

She unfortunately was raised by an emotionally abusive aunt who raised her like Harry Potter under the stairs. Her mom died when she was young, and her aunt took custody of her, but was resentful of the burden of raising her. As a result her aunt constantly put her down, neglected her, made her semi-slave labor, and overall made her feel like a burden. She ended up repeating this pattern in a subsequent 10 year relationship with a man who lived with an abusive mother who put her down in very much the same way.

Current Situation

She ended up leaving the 10 year relationship with the man with the abusive mother, and for a brief period

I have had majority bad experiences with local guests. Sampling of experiences:

  • Older gentleman booked, he smoked the entire time in the room despite no smoking signs posted everywhere, I had to replace the mattress and curtains and air out the house for 5 hours in the freezing cold. No financial help from Airbnb despite ample evidence.
  • A mid-20s woman booked, did drugs, drank a case of beer & screamed all night (until 5am) with the guest she brought along, freaking out my other guests & disturbing us.
  • A lady in her 50s booked for a week and had loud phone sex in the bathroom each day and very graphic sex ads on her computer in the common spaces
  • A late 30s dude booked and tr

I am currently dating someone with BPD who actually has pretty well managed BPD. When she gets into the big BPD feels, she manages to just say "I need to feel my feelings right now" and feels them in a responsible way that doesn't involve blowing up on me. Honestly, some of the best managed BPD I've seen period.

However, her BPD feels manifest horribly in her ability to do challenging things. For instance, if she needs to look for a job, if we need to get up early & moving for a bus or flight, if plans change rapidly, if she gets a cold she falls apart and can't rise to the task, at least not with a ton of pushing from me. The level of resilience she has for the stresses of everyday lif

I have a friend who's going to Guatemala soon and she's been having trouble getting her Birth Control prescription refilled before her travel date. So 2 questions (if anybody knows).

  1. Where would she go to purchase birth control pills?
  2. What kind of Birth Control brand availability might you find in Guatemala?

I live in a major city and am friends with a lot of European immigrants. In my experience many of them are very concerned about flaunting whatever money they have through nice clothes, nice cars, going to fancy clubs, buying fancy things, etc. This seems especially true of Eastern & Southeastern Europeans.

Honestly it all looks like overcompensation to me. They want to show that they're making it, but people who grew up in the United States don't care at all. To me and I think a lot of other Americans, the pea-cocking comes off as trying too hard and looks cheesy as hell.

So, new European fam, try investing some of your money instead of blowing it on $15 drinks and Maserati day rentals

My friend/roommate recently setup an Ubuntu server behind my home router to test a rest he developed API (he's learning how to code). The only port he had exposed was 2222 (revealed from a nmap scan I did), but as soon as he set it up, our internet usage spiked to 75GB a day. I promptly had him shut it down and our internet usage returned to normal.

He wasn't hosting anything but his endpoints, so it perplexes me why that would cause a 75GB daily spike in traffic.

Any ideas on why this could be?

(Background: For work, I'm a machine learning dev, so I'm used to production level software development but my experience in devops/sysadmin is pretty shallow)

Everyone who's ever rented a room or an apartment knows this dreaded smell.

You walk up to clean your space after and suddenly you're almost knocked over by a smell that can be best described as a mix between sweaty ass, dead skunk, and half a bottle of dollar store perfume. You manage to regain your balance, walk in and your spirits drop as you realize it's going to take the next 72 hours to fully rid your space of the horrid smell. You use baking soda, Febreeze and everything else you can think of to neutralize the smell and it doesn't make a dent. You sigh and clean your newly skunk-ass smelling place as best you can knowing that your next review will get a cleanliness rating of 2/5. Yo

For SBs, money is an obvious motivation, for SDs, access to beautiful women for gratifying trysts is an obvious motivation. However, I often wonder how much of a kink factor plays into some SB/SD relationships.

Thus my question is:

  • If there is a kink factor in it for you, would you mind explaining your kinks surrounding your sugary lifestyle?
  • If there is no kink factor for you (other than wanting money/access to women out of your league), would you mind explaining your motivations?

I am a game industry vet and we largely used flash to draw animated characters.

However, my girlfriend and I have a little pet comic in mind that we've already drawn on on paper and are curious what software packages you guys prefer for drawing static comics.

I've been on CS since the early days (warning, grandpa's gonna rant). Back when it started, it was marketed a lot within the nomad community and thus its userbase was largely people who were heavily into the wanderlust lifestyle. This gave the community, I believe, a true orientation towards travel. The p2p hangouts, hosting/surfing experiences and events/meetups were really centered on travel experiences and lifestyle. The toxic things about Couchsurfing that exist now, existed back then too, but there was MUCH less of it.

Fast forward to now. Couchsurfing turned into a corporation and on-boarded a more generally focused user-base, and three horrible, horrible trends have emerged.
