Ep 33: Xie Zheng says that Li Huaian is causing the death of soldiers for political gain. He tells his subordinate that Xie Zheng probably knows everything. Then we see Bandit Lady, who is looking for Sui Yuanqing for some reason (didn't she already find him multiple times?) She sees Li Huaian and follows him.
Sui Yuanqing arrives to confront Qi Min... why are we time skipping all the fights? Second skipped fight this episode. Anyway, Sui Yuanqing can't bring himself to kill Qi Min but Qi Min does not have that problem. He has delightful crazy eyes.
Fake Brothers Montage! Sui Yuanqing is finally dead now? I suggest being really REALLY sure... Li Huaian shows up after all the killing is over. Qi Min sends him to find Yu Qainqian and kill his son (this is because his son is also heir to the throne). Li Huaian is like, "Oh, maybe this dude who wants to kill his own son won't be a good ruler."
I TOLD YOU ALL! Everyone needs to follow zombie rules in these dramas, take the head right off. Sui Yuanqing is somehow still alive. Bandit Lady found him. Huh?
Sui Yuanqing gives Bandit Lady the tiger tally and then kill himself. Bandit Lady cries about him!? Moving on. Ministers Li and Wei are arguing to the emperor about Xie Zheng's ear cutting and Fan Changyu being a commander without military experience. Then he learns that the entire rebellion has been killed and gets all happy:
The emperor wants to reward Xie Zheng and Fan Changyu because he feels like they've solved all his problems. Poor little Puppet Emperor...
Princess Qi Shu, Gongsun Yin, Fan Changyu, and Xie Zheng are drinking together. When the princess leaves, Gongsun Yin chases after her and says he can finally tell her his feelings because he got permission from his clan. The Butcher Squad leader (Jin Yuanbao) tells Fan Changyu he admires her. She's very drunk, but when Xie Zheng tries to drink for her, Jin Yuanbao starts talking about how he's married into Fan Changyu's family.
Xie Zheng drinks the wine, breaks the cup, and pulls Fan Changyu away. Gongsun Yin explains that after some empresses from his family ended tragically, his family's rule was to never become officials. He proposes to her and she makes it look like she's going to refuse
She asks for all his books as a betrothal gift. Yay!
Fan Changyu calls Xie Zheng by his title again, which he hates. So she calls him Yan Cheng instead and asks if his hand hurts (don't look, just enjoy the make-out>!I am actually shaking with rage, this is negative character development, you are supposed to love all of him! Not just the invalid you saved from the woods...!<)
The princess departs for the capital and Xie Zheng says they need to go back too. This guy is back!
Another Li clan member comes to taunt him. He says that Wei Xuan isn't Wei Yan's actual son. Wei Xuan beats him up. In the post credits, Jin Yuanbao is angry at Xie Zheng.
Novel bits: here is a collection of Xie Zheng breaking random things by accident (mostly) because he has TOO MANY EMOTIONS about Fan Changyu
!After Gongsun Yin left, Xie Zheng finally tossed aside the broken brush. Fine, sharp wood splinters had pierced his fingertips. He pulled them out with an expressionless face. The knife and whip wounds on his back still ached faintly, but the sharp pain in his heart that he couldn’t suppress when he heard Gong Sunyin say she might develop feelings for someone else over time, and that momentary desire for destruction, were equally clear. He suddenly didn’t want to wait anymore.!<
