Novel fan translation:Â Love Beyond the Grave
Main characters: He Simu, alias He Xiaoxiao, Sovereign of Spirits
Duan Xu, courtesy name Shunxi, cult name Seventeen
Ep 21: He Simu has a vision of living with Duan Xu as a mortal. Confession: I skip happy dreams if I know they are fake. However I will report that the theme of this seemingly happy illusion was that He Simu's greatest fear is everyone leaving her because only she is immortal.
She managed to relight Duan Xu's candle. He wakes up from his endless nightmare of being abandoned and finds out she came for him!
Mortal and Immortal twin flames
He says no one has ever come to save him before. He Simu reverse bridal carries Duan Xu out, which is My Favourite. She tries to heal him, but he's trapped in some sort of nightmare and the only thing that calms him down is holding her hand. WHICH IS... !!!! She even doesn't really hold court because she's tending to Duan Xu.
Yan Ke gets all jealous. He Simu is NOT impressed with Yan Ke saying that Duan Xu should die.
It looks like Yan Ke is collaborating with the I Hate Men ghost to damage the special tree. Why does she like Yan Ke? Well you have to understand that the whole thing about ghosts is that they get obsessed really easily and then hold on forever. Because Ghost.
I am not doing well with ghost names, you will get descriptive nicknames
Jiang An apologizes and also tells He Simu that she ought to just be with the human since they like each other so much. She also points out that Duan Xu doesn't cry out for help in his sleep, which is so, so sad. And then He Simu lays beside him and holds his hand and it's like !!!!!
Unfortunately, they aren't in matchy matchy outfits (as usual) but instead black vs. white which fills me with fear.
Ep 22: The other gist leaders want Jiang An punished for almost killing a mortal. He Simu is like, "FINE, let me magic up a chair to listen to you losers."
Yan Ke fails to defeat Jiang An, as she's not executed. She does get flogged though, and taunts him during her punishment like a boss. It seems from a flashback that Jiang An didn't love that other ghost Bia Sanxing, but wants revenge on him.
He Simu is really tired of everyone dying on her
Duan Xu finally wakes up. He talks about the illusion they shared so He Simu rips his memory out. Like painfully, which maybe let the poor boy have a minute, he just woke up.
Yan Ke is being weird and jealous. Go away Yan Ke.
He Simu tells Duan Xu that no one can hurt him ever again now that he's her spell bearer. It's very sweet.
(in the novel, >!the expanded nightmare was that he was forced to kill everyone with his birthday because of a prophecy. And he did it knowing that he was most likely the prophecy baby!<)
Jiang An comes to tell Duan Xu about He Simu's childhood. Her mother was mortal and eventually died. Her father died somehow as well. The ghost realm was in chaos until He Simu took over. Ghost battle!
Super ghost!
I think we've made it out of the kind of meandering Void plot and back to the novel! Excited for more tomorrow.
Interesting novel bits, why Duan Xu saved the other 17:
But he wasn’t truly Seventeen. By the rules, all disciples in a cohort had to die for the last survivor to be given a number. He had saved Han Lingqiu, meaning two people from that cohort still lived, so there was no true “Seventeen” in this world. That was one reason why he had taken such a great risk to ensure Han Lingqiu’s survival.
Why the golden ghost laws:
While these laws were restrictive, they had their benefits. For nearly a hundred years, legitimate cultivators rarely hunted ghosts anymore, knowing that the evil ghosts had strict internal laws and those who committed excessive acts were promptly punished. Other evil ghosts just sought food normally, and there was no need to pressure them too much. Even orthodox Daoist sects like Xingqing Palace would send captured evil ghosts directly to Yuzhou for the Ghost King to handle. It worked well, with each side minding its own business.
Heartbreaking novel bit:
The day he raided the enemy camp, sitting on the ground covered in blood and reaching out his hand to her, she saw that he seemed to be yearning for something, but she didn’t understand the meaning of that yearning—perhaps he didn’t understand it either at the time. Now she gradually realized that he wasn’t just reaching out his hand to her; he was offering his heart.
That heart, broken and riddled with holes, which he had collected the pieces of and glued back together, beating fervently with countless old scars. He had placed this heart in her hands.
