Friday Spotlight: Kyle-Kranz
Hey readers! Today we are highlighting an athlete that I've been personally curious about for some time now. You might know him better by his previous username so don't let the new name fool you. This guy is always around providing our community with content and loves to comment frequently. He's never shy about sharing his opinion on certain matters and that shows that he's got passion for what he does. Ladies and gentlemen... u/Kyle-Kranz
Let's roll...
###The Runner:
First Name?
Kyle
Age?
28
Where are you from?
I live in Rapid City, SD right outside the Black Hills National Forest and mountain range. It's a nice low-key location.
Occupation?
Social Media for SKORA Running as well as a running coach.
The Running Q&A's:
What are your PR’s?
The one I'm currently focused on breaking is my 1:23 half PR.
What is your distance PR?
100 miles outdoors, 52.4 on a treadmill.
What’s your highest recorded weekly mileage?
Probably 120 or so.
What’s your comfy pace?
Yesterday's easy long run was done at just under 8:00 / mile.
How long have you been running?
About 8 years, I was a cyclist pre-triathlon, pre-runner.
Tell us why you began running?
I was bored with just cycling, so began triathlon, which took at TON of time and I didn't really care for swimming. Did my Ironman and have not swam since.
Most memorable running moment?
It was the next morning after having started my 100 miler, and I was probably at mile 90 or even closer to the finish.
I was on some gravel road, my GPS died and I had no idea how close I was to the next aid station. I was barely shuffling forward. I came over this hill on the gravel road to see my wife parked down at the turn to go to the final aid station, and I started crying I was so happy to see her!
Do you have a running mantra?
When racing: "The faster I run, the sooner the pain will end"
What time of day do you prefer to run?
In the summer it is the early morning, in the cooler months I like the late AM.
Any big races coming up?
My PR half race (Run Crazy Horse) is coming up again and I'm hoping to go faster.
What are your short-term running goals?
Sub 1:23 half
What are your long-term running goals?
Hopefully I can continue to improve for many years :)
What’s one piece of running advice you’d give to the younger version of yourself?
Don't jump into the longer distance races as quickly.
What is something you need to work on to become a better runner?
For a few years now I've been very bad at executing my longer runs. I recently got back to having a coach and that accountability has helped me greatly when it comes to running long again.
What is your current shoe choice?
The SKORA Tempo.
Trail? Road? Track? Or Treadmill?
Whichever I feel like on the day :)
What is your ideal running weather?
Inclement.
Do you have any social media accounts you’d like to share? [Facebook, Strava, Twitter]
###Just For Fun:
What’s your spirit animal?
The sloth. Slow but efficient.
What hobbies and interests do you have besides running?
My wife and I do a lot of hiking, cooking, tandem bike riding, family cookouts, going yard sale-ing, and taking care of our pet Guinea Pig named Gary.
Do you have any hidden talents?
I speak Spanish.
Biggest pet peeve?
My guinea pig peeing on the floor ;)
Dream job! What would it be?
Got it!
Favorite Quote or Poem?
Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came, because my favorite book series is The Dark Tower.
What is your biggest character flaw?
I'm apparently horrible at reading other people's tone/facial expressions (according to my wife I cannot tell when a lady is flirting with me)
What songs have you been listening to recently?
Not a music person, but I'll listen to about anything live.
What are some of your favorite non-running subreddits?
The Prius one, since we just got a new one and it's AWESOME!
###One Last Question:
What is the origin of your username?
It's my name :)
Short and sweet! That sums it up for this week folks. I'd like to thank Mr. Kranz for taking the time out of his schedule to give us a bit of insight into who he is and what he does. I'd consider myself pretty lucky to be in his position. See everyone next week as we turn the Spotlight onto another athlete from the community. Until then, run on my friends.
#As usual please tag u/Kyle-Kranz's username when asking him a question in this thread!
If you don't the running Gods will give you incurable shin splints for the rest of your life and you'll die a sad lonely wanna-be hobbyjogger.
If I see that you've failed to tag him after asking him a question, I'll try my best to respond to your question by tagging him myself. So be aware. Tagging his username alerts him that his attention is needed. This way, he doesn't have to sift through all of the comments one by one, which can be a rather daunting task when there is a lot of traffic to the thread. Please don't forget that all of our Friday Spotlight athletes may need time to respond to your comments and questions so give them some time to reply.
####Thanks for reading everyone!!!
