Best of Year

He wants some bread (thread link) by Devin Elle Kurtz sucks me in so thoroughly that I can feel the light and warmth and chill, hear the patter, and smell the faint aroma of baked goods as experienced by the expressively posed dragonling.

Best of Year

Pastel Sunset (thread link) by Sin Jong Hun is a powerful vista view, something not uncommon here, but that really stands out for how well its focal character is positioned to tell the story of their relationship to the surroundings and powerfully evoke that pseudo-nostalgia, that sense of longing, that is a hallmark of some of the best imaginary slice of life art.

Best of Year

Love the dramatic lighting in this work, there's just something so atmospheric about it. Feels like stepping back in time to a dimly lit grocery store and there's something so peaceful and real about it.

Also a fan of this one. The use of color to tie together each scene works really well. And overall, the piece has an atmosphere about it that I appreciate.

Absolutely, its use of color and lighting really pulls you in. Really does feel like a slice of life. Similar work by the same artist which I also quite like.

Instagram, artiststation, deviantart for anyone interested in more of their stuff. :)

I was wondering if someone was going to nominate this. Great animation.

Using strong depth of field except through the lens of an environmental object as a framing device is a cool idea. The water droplets really sell the effect for me.

I particularly like her soft colours and the emotions in her art. The longer you watch, the deeper it hits.

Notice for people browsing for nominations - for some reason, the sort-by-Top and filter-by-tag methods are erroneously not showing a great many posts made to the subreddit that should be shown. Searching the subreddit for 'by' (a word in most, though not quite all, r/ImaginarySliceOfLife post titles) seems to show those posts properly.

Direct link: [search for 'by' in r/imaginarysliceoflife, within 1 year, sorted by top](https://www.reddit.com/r/ImaginarySliceOfLife/search?q=by&restrict_sr=on&sort=top&t=year)

Reddit search is soooo brain damaged.

Wasn't there a post recently about reddit trying to improve search with an explanation about how to provide feedback?

There has been some work done on search functionality in the last few months, that's all I know.

Best of Year

Untitled (thread link) by Sam Yang is, hear me out here, not just artwork of a pretty girl, it's really really really good artwork of a pretty girl. Ha ha. The artist specializes in girl-next-door-pretty art of women, and the specialization is obviously working - I won't insist on originality when the results are so arresting.

The summer breeze by With 4

This picture was actually posted 2 years ago and I may have nominated it as my best of year back then, but even if I did I'm nominating it again because I love it so much. There's something about seeing huge cumulonimbus clouds in the distance that just screams "summer" to me. In pictures like this they make me feel really nostalgic for past summers, especially when they're over the ocean even though I've never lived near the ocean.

I dig this piece too. It evokes feelings of summer and freedom. On a technical level, the artist did an amazing job on the clouds.

The ever-so-slightly blotchy color detailing on this piece lends it a distinctive flair. Even more than most ISoL art it reminds me of still life and would look very at home as a framed print on a wall.

TBH this recalls the good old days of walking to and from college: Best of Year

Ha! I had a good chuckle at this one.

The art style for this whole series is very clean.
