Isekai Campaign Episode 11 - The Goddess Of Fate Summoned Us To Another World To Be Her Champions, But She Won't Tell Us What To Do!

Previously on The Goddess Of Fate Summoned Us To Another World To Be Her Champions, But She Won't Tell Us What To Do!:

Four Japanese High School students were hit by a truck and brought to a magical world called Risturan by Bruni, the Goddess of Fate to be her champions. While helping Pampanik, the sheriff of Bakri, escort Brod, the former head of Bakri's adventurers' guild to the jail in Filmelon to face justice for his crimes, the party came across a carriage under attack and successfully killed half the bandits and captured the rest.

Our heroes:

• Sato - carries a katana and dreams of being a samurai
• Tobe - carries a bow and enjoys tracking and sneaking
• Okita - has two companion animals, a spark rabbit named Yokai-chan and a wind hawk named Riku-chan, and enjoys the creepy things
• Akuto - wannabe gangster who talks with his fists

Tonight's session:

The passenger of the carriage turned out to be Miss Primri, the daughter of Baron Filmelon. She thanked the team for saving her and invited them to accompany her back to Filmelon, for safety. Filmelon is the seat of the Barony and sits where the river meets the sea. Tobe, who was allergic to fish, shuddered at the smell of the fish market. At the jail, they met Cassar, the sheriff and left Brod and the bandits with the city guards. Pampanik stayed to fill out reports while the others were shown to the baron's mansion.

After washing off their road dust and bandit blood, they were brought into the dining room with Baron and Lady Filmelon, for a delicious meal of fish ball soup and fish pie. Tobe, not wanting to start a fuss over her fish allergy, excused herself to use the ladies' room, with the intent to speak to the chef and see if there was something else she could eat. Akuto, figuring out her intent, also excused himself and went to try to help her in his own way.

Akuto made it to the kitchen before her and successfully stole a loaf of bread and a string of sausages. Tobe approached the head chef who blew up at her for interrupting her during the busy dinner hour. Akuto offered his heartfelt compliments to the chef and pulled Tobe out. He showed her the sausages he had stuffed into the bread, and said he could swap it for the fish pie if she would make a distraction. Tobe pointed out that sausage in a loaf of bread looks nothing like a fish pie or fish ball soup. Akuto said that she'd better eat the food before she gets back to the dining hall, then. While trying to scarf it down, she choked on it and had a huge coughing fit just outside the dining hall, which attracted the baron's attention. The butler opened the door to find Tobe, bent over and coughing. When pressed for an explanation, she admitted that fish makes her sick. The baron revealed that Okita had already explained that fish makes her sick, and they had set out some bread, cheese, and apples for her.

Baron and Lady Filmelon were surprised that fish made her sick. They knew this happened to some people, but usually an alchemist cures them while they are still a child. Tobe explained that she grew up in an isolated area. The baron accepted this and offered to recommend a good alchemist to them.

Miss Primri excitedly invited them to the ball which her father was throwing in honor of her sixteenth birthday next week. Sato meekly pointed out that they did not have any fancy clothes to wear. Hearing this, Lady Filmelon got a predatory gleam in her eye and declared that she would be delighted to dress them up, that is, help them find dresses for the ball. Tobe, outgoing former theater kid, was delighted at both dressing up and dancing. Sato, ever the tomboy, dreaded the thought of being a dress-up doll. Okita, the gloomy introvert, paled (even further than normal) at the thought of interacting with people at the ball. Akuto stole Tobe's discarded fish pie.

After dinner, Tobe made three visits. First she visited Okita and asked her not to share her personal details with people in the future. Okita pointed out that if she had just admitted her troubles and asked for help, she would have received it. She doesn't have to do everything on her own. They then talked about the ball. Okita shared how scared she was about the social event, and Tobe pledged to help her learn social skills.

Second, Tobe visited Akuto to thank him for trying to help her. She found him cutting the sleeves off of more of his shirts. He said that his little brother used to get into trouble so he developed a sixth sense for when someone was going to embarrass themselves. He started to speak about the people his parents hired to raise them and the social events they would drag them to, but closed off when she asked about it.

Finally, she visited Primri to ask if they could have dancing and etiquette lessons. Primri offered to introduce them to her tutor.

Lessons:

• Social sessions can work out well when the GM is traveling and doesn't have access to his computer with the mapping software.
• Using video and/or being in person makes social role play a lot more fun than voices over Discord.
• GMs should absolutely take advantage of character defects (such as a fish allergy) to create obstacles for their players to overcome. It can make for some of the most fun role playing.
• Players will come up with creative solutions, or attempted solutions, that you will never imagine, and you have to roll with it because you will have a blast.
