It sounds like TDS has a pretty significant fiber cut in Shaumburg, IL which is causing a multi-state issue.

Update 10:45am CDT: Spectrum confirms the cut is causing issues for their customers as well.

Update 11:55am CDT: TDS has two major cuts - one in IL, one in MN - that are affecting TDS access in WI. Happy Friday.

Update 2:15pm CDT: Services are being restored, connectivity is coming back up. Happy Friday...

My daughter had to use the bathroom around 1:30am the other night. Luckily, I got up with her and not my wife. We stumbled down the path to the flushies, and my daughter was jumping at every shadow her flashlight made from the plants we walked past. I stopped her and asked for the light - I happened to catch something moving in the grass out of the corner of my eye.

My daughter almost couldn't container herself staring at a wild porcupine lumbering away from us.

When we left camp, my wife commented that (daughter) seeing the porcupine was the best part of (wife's) trip, and she didn't even see it.

We left a night early to avoid getting rained out (and it's a good thing we did - my sist

I've got a 2009 Dodge Journey with about 140k miles on it. It's been pretty reliable until the past 6 months. Things seem to be going south, and continue to head that direction.

I have gotten P1128/P1129 (always together) codes several times over the years, and the dealer has told me not to worry about them. They only happen when it's colder out (mid-winter, generally).

This year, since late summer, things have gotten worse. I've had P0300 and P0339 codes (misfires and crankshaft position sensor) going off. On occasion, I get all 4 (P0339, P0300, P1128, P1129) at once. The P03XX codes are ALWAYS associated with a bump in the road. I'm also noticing that when I hit a bump, small or l

Original Post - VMware Horizon View Client 4.4.0 + Windows 10 (1703) = massive memory leak

It looks like VMware has finally released a Horizon View client that supports the Windows 10 1703 update. 4.5 was released today. I'm installing and testing, I guess we'll see what happens.

From the release notes:

Windows 10 Creators Update support

You can install Horizon Client for Windows on a Windows 10 Creators Update machine.

In case anyone else sees this behavior, I thought I'd post this here. It caught me by surprise, and I couldn't find any solution readily available.

I run a small VDI farm for myself and a few other engineers, and I came across an interesting issue. When I upgraded my home desktop to Win 10 1703, I started getting out of memory errors. I tried chasing them down for 3 days.

I reinstalled my desktop (I just built a Ryzen build, I was concerned about craziness in the update) and i had the same issue. I switched to my tablet that also had 1703, and decided the only common thing was VMware. I removed it from the tablet, and it went back to working fine. One I removed it from the desktop, my me

I have had a support ticket open w/ HPE, which was opened last week Monday. Due to a surprise sick day, and a support rep that appears to not be able to read the case history, my issue is not yet resolved. Today, I received a phone call from the rep.

I was told that he must close my ticket today, and that if I still need assistance, that I would need to open a new case (and reference the old one). He was told by his manager that the issue had to be closed today.

Now, I have a new ticket open, and I spoke with a different manager who assures me that it is NOT company policy to do this. I certainly hope it isn't. I really hope it was a miscommunication somewhere along the line, and

Example of what she wants...

My wife got it in her head to make and install a wood valance over the window in the bathroom. At first I said "Sure, no problem." Once I spent a minute thinking about it, I'm not sure it will work without some serious consideration of how it's going to move given the temperature and humidity issues since it's where we shower daily.

Would it be possible to counteract the humidity if the wood was sealed well enough, or is this just asking for trouble? Is there a particular species of wood I could use to make it less likely to bust apart at the seams?

Even though it probably doesn't count as real woodworking, it's the closest I've come this summer.

I spent all day Saturday prepping and then sanding my bedroom floor to start refinishing it. I've never done so much sanding. So much dust...

When we moved in it had a horrible pink carpet with a bunch of stains (not horrible, but...). Now that it's going to be a nursery, we finally started cleaning it up. We removed the carpet, and then spent last weekend stripping/cleaning the glue and crap off the floor. This weekend was sanding time. So much sanding. Thankfully my buddy and his dad came over with the big floor sander to take care of business. But there was still plenty of hand sand

Ok, I've read everything I can find, but nothing seems to provide the answer that I need.

I have an AIX system that needs to share a filesystem via NFS. The client that needs to mount it has the same usernames but different UIDs.*

What I'm hoping to do is to use NFSv4, which is supposed to send the user/group info as strings (i.e., NOT numerically), so that I don't have to do any goofy UID/GID mucking about on either environment. So far, I have managed to mount a test filesystem between environments and I can see the appropriate names on both environments (I see the same usernames on both sides, even though the UIDs differ).

What I can't do, however, is to have the client create a file
